I have to admit I've never really watched any 83 Tour footage, Roberts dancing is truly terrible in that Montreal footage. Not or a very exciting stage presentation either, Robert is only engaging performer on stage. His voice sounds good though.

One has to wonder what Clapton thought on that U.S. ARMS Tour when those crowds were absolutely losing their shit over just SEEING Jimmy. You know all those musicians on that tour must've been pretty blown away by that.

The Firm may not have been great, but at least their stuff is LISTENABLE now. Lots of 70s artists just absolutely made synth garbage crap ( Shaken n Stirred?) in the 80s. If Jimmy REMIXED, not just a remaster, it would open people's eyes. I'd crank the guitars up in the mix, and take some of the gate/reverb effect off the drums, toughen up the sound I think it would be an eye opener. The two Firm albums, if condensed, would make one pretty darn good album. Closer Fortune Hunter Cadillac Satisfaction Guaranteed Live in Peace Dreams Money Can't Buy Tear Down the Walls Spirit of Love thats a good record!

Presence at the moment is my fave Companion disc. Achilles, even though it's in a close to finished state, illustrates the depth of Jimmy's genius in that anybody else would listen to that and go " Bloody hell that's a masterpiece". But Jimmy saw in amazing detail what was needed to help take it even further, to truly Olympian heights. He saw the need for additional vocal passages to develop the narrative of the song, and tightening of some overdubs and other minor edits. Lastly, I finally discovered the magic of the intro and outtro guitar sections, why they sounded so cosmic after all these years. Jimmy is deliberately playing the passages in random time patterns. Then overdubbing multiple guitars in odd time signatures to create an disorienting effect, true genius. Foy Your Life is great too, because again, it shows Pages studio mastery and trickery. Listen closely to the middle "When you blow it babe" part, it's totally different sequencing wise. Jimmy cut and spliced his way to the version we all know and love. 10 Ribs I mean come on, what a treat. Aren't you glad we have this hidden gem? I listen to this all the time now. Royal Orleans The more I listen the more I think it COULD be Plant. It is bizarre, and I think we are lucky Jimmy chose to include such an oddity. I love it, absolutely priceless and shows their great humor. Someone needs to pin down Robert and ask him definitely, because Jimmy lies about shit. hots on for nowhere nothing special here, but it's a great frickin song.

Keep in mind that Jimmy steered clear of what was out there on bootleg. IMHO, that is why the In Through the Out Door companion is so weak, all the good stuff came out already! Jimmy has given us, by my count, INCLUDING his website releases, unloaded hours of totally new material, I mean, what more do you want? Jimmy has very high quality control standards, he's not going to release inferior 2 track rehearsal tapes and the like. Zep is collectively massively wealthy, they simply don't need to release anything that isn't top notch. Yes on the other hand? Some other acts, they are scraping the bottom of the barrel a lot because they need the money. Some of those Doors live releases were ATROCIOUS. Anyways, no pleasing some folks I guess, but I'm happy.

What happened to Plant's voice in 1972 ?
bluecongo replied to SolitudeIsBliss's topic in Led Zeppelin Live
The real question is WTF happened to his voice between June 72 and Oct 72 He goes from the soaring highs heard in Australia and the U.S. Tour to barely squeaking out the notes in Japan 72. Then his voice gets mangled by the flu on the British Tour, and then they toured until July 73 further damaging his vocal chords to the point he needed vocal chord surgery in late 73 after which his voice was never the same. He prob had surgery to remove folds and or nodes on his vocal chords. Why he has never been asked about this in depth by an interviewer I will never know -

Ok I listened AGAIN, it's just not good. In fact, I have a very specific problem with Burning Up, and I finally figured out why this song never worked for me. Charlie Jones ruins the whole song. During the chorus where Plant sings "I'm burning up" Jimmy is going from A to D, but Charlie for some asinine reason is going from E to A, and it sounds terrible. It just sounds like a mess. Terrible terrible production job -
I bet Jimmy is very sad every May 31st. Bonzo was connected telepathically to Jimmy musically, he understood and knew exactly how to execute Jimmy's musical vision. A loss Jimmy has never recovered from. Happy Birthday Bonzo we all still miss you.

I've loved Presence from the very first time I heard it. I am chomping at the bit for this one, above all the others .

I think it's far more likely we'll get Outrider out takes etc

What type of strings do you use and why?
bluecongo replied to ScarletMacaw's topic in Musician's Corner
GHS Boomers .10s for electric or DaDdarios they just seem to work fine Ernie Balls broke on me too much Elixir Polyweb .12 for acoustic they just sound wonderful and keep their tone longer less string noise too -

That can't be right Steve the video for Radioactive had to have been done in 1984 not late 1985.

Walking Into Clarksdale - Rediscovered

I just listened to this album for the frst time in a loooong time And it hasn't gotten any better and my dissapointment has only been reaffirmed. Under Produced. Where is the guitar army? Plants vocals sound thin and nasally. Drum sound: Flat and weak with stupid delay effect no punch no power Bass: practically non existent Jimmy just way too far in back seat, hardly any guitar solos, and the ones on there are too short. Songwriting: weak meandering songs, with a few exceptions, but the songs just don't POP Blue Train, When World Was Young, Shining in Light, Most High are best tracks, House of Love too The rest, it's just flat and poorly produced, Albini was the wrong choice, Rick Rubin would've been better choice for the minimalist approach they were aiming for. -
When & where was this taken?

I read the same anecdote in a book called John Lennon in New York. It said Bonham was sick from using strong heroin and told them they could have the rest. Or something close to that. -
My only real nitpick on that list is that Heartbreaker from Rotterdam owns the zurich version

Listen to an audience recording it will totally change your perspective.

Why didn't the Firm ever tour Japan?

I think CP showed Percy that Jimmy still had mojo, at the very least. I love, and always have loved CP, I mean Coverdale whatever! but the Cd is one huge chunk of Jimmy Page guitar porn.
