  1. What? How is that legal? New England is the road team so NFL local blackout rules shouldn't be in effect for the New England area. It is a CBS game and CBS only gets one game today while Fox gets the double-header, so what game is CBS showing at 4pm if they aren't airing a 1pm game? Here in LA, CBS is showing the Chargers @ Raiders at 1PST/4 EST, while the Fox double-header is Green Bay @ Miami now and Dallas @ Seattle after the Miami game.
  2. I wonder if Rick is at the game. Maybe that's why he's been away from the forum...he's not near a PC. Add Tampa Bay to the list of NFL frauds. Down 35-0 in the 2nd QTR at home.
  3. Jesus Paul, are they playing in Miami or Green Bay? It sounds like a Packer home game out there.
  4. It is a good thing I don't make a living being a sports prognosticator...because I wouldn't have my job very long. The light-hitting Kansas City Royals suddenly turn into home run mashers against the vaunted Baltimore bull-pun? What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is going on here?!? Glad you had some good food to help digest that terrible loss, ebk. Don't know what Buck can do at this point to turn things around. You gotta go with the things that got the Os this far...a leopard can't change spots overnight.
  5. I bet that made her right as rain. Best wishes to the missus. I was at the Opening Night of the German Film Festival hosted by the Goethe Institute last night and you cannot go to a German Film Festival without drinking. I must say I took full advantage of the open bar...a little Hefeweizen, a little Riesling...and a lot of Asbach Uralt, hehe. Oh my god, I drank so much Asbach Uralt...nearly an entire bottle. There was plenty of bratwurst, schnitzel, potato pancakes, currywurst, and sauerkraut as well.
  6. Not a bad analysis zepscoda and I agree about Dallas O-line and the strength of the running game. But that advantage disappears in the noise cauldron of the Hawks Nest...Dallas will be somewhat on their heels instead of being able to charge aggressively off the line.
  7. Last week all of us took Seattle against Washington. Will it be the same thing again this week...will everyone pick Seattle over Dallas? Will not one soul pick Dallas? I see Walter didn't, hehe. What about Dallas-residing zepscoda? Okay...I just did a quick review and zepscoda HAS PICKED DALLAS!!! That's the can-do spirit zepscoda!
  8. You're welcome, KB. Here is John Paul Jones playing the fiddle!
  9. The Whisky has always been one of my favourite Led Zeppelin shows to listen to, and "As Long As I Have You" and "For Your Love" are the primary reasons why. Bit of a mystery about this run of gigs...they were scheduled to play January 2 thru the 5th, 1969 at the Whisky, with Alice Cooper also on the bill. Then Jimmy Page was sick with the flu or something...some accounts suggest some of the Whisky shows were cancelled; others that Jimmy still played. We know he played at least one show...the 5th...as we have the bootleg. But so far no other audio has come out of any other set from that Whisky run. There is also no way of knowing if they did two sets a night, as was customary at venues like the Fillmore. If they did a second set, then it's highly probable that they played "How Many More Times" during that set.
  10. Or as they're known around these parts...the Choking Dogs. LA Times sports columnist T.J. Simers first coined that sobriquet for the Dodgers about 10 years ago or so, in the midst of another floundering season. It's stuck with them ever since, after playoff futility accrues year after year. Baltimore wipes KC out in 5 or 4 games. Giants and Cardinals wage a 7 game battle...and I literally don't know which team will prevail. They both are so clutch in the postseason that they could end up playing a 20-inning Game 7.
  11. Some photos of the first set from Monday's concert at the Cathedral Sanctuary of Immanuel Presbyterian Church.
  12. Throwing darts at a board would be more proficient... Indianapolis Atlanta Tennessee Tampa Bay Denver Minnesota New England Cincinnati Cleveland Green Bay San Diego Seattle Arizona Philadelphia San Francisco
  13. Welllll...that's one way to start a season. Sharks blank the Kings 4-0 in the Kings Home Opener and Stanley Cup Banner Ceremony. The Kings added a neat little twist to the ceremony too! http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/la-kings-lower-stanley-cup-from-rafters-during-banner-raising-ceremony--video-032357297.html I am not going to panic after one game...besides, it almost seems common these days that the team raising a championship banner then goes on to lose the game.
  14. I can pinpoint exactly when the concert began to send chills down my spine...it was the fifth song of the night, a cover of Bob Dylan's "As I Went Out One Morning". Listen to John Paul Jones cast a spell from his Mandolin and Dave Rawlings answer with an achingly beautiful solo of his own.
  15. No John Paul Jones guest appearance at Plant's show last night. It's entirely possible that neither Plant nor Jones knew the other was playing a gig in town. There was a special guest last night...Tom Morello dropped in during opening band The Last Internationale's set, adding his guitar pyrotechnics.
  16. Just coming out of the Hollywood Palladium show...very good, if a bit shorter than I had hoped, show. Robert was in fine voice...even better than last year I think. Didn't take many photos...but here's the setlist. No Quarter to open the show!
  17. I see now...I overlooked the 'The'.

  19. As far as I know, "Destroyer" has always been used to signify the April 27, 1977 show.
  20. Well, Robert Plant and his band should be in fine spirits for tonight's concert at the Hollywood Palladium. According to my friends around town, Robert and the band spent some time record shopping at Amoeba in Hollywood before going to Barney's Beanery that night and getting hammered.
  21. A few quick thoughts about last night's Dave Rawlings Machine show... Every once in a while you go to a concert at which you feel humbled and privileged to be in attendance. The Dave Rawlings Machine concert last night at Immanuel Presbyterian Church was just such a show. One felt baptized in the purity of bullshit-free musicianship that characterized the evening. No flash, no gimmickry, no ear monitors, no lyric teleprompters. Just five honest-to-goodness musicians who love what they do and have a generosity of spirit towards both the audience and each other. The fact that the concert was a low-key little-publicized gig in a church helped add to the folksy intimate atmosphere. It was far from sold out and I was able to walk up to the church door at a little past 7pm. and buy my ticket...cost $38. It was as if Dave Rawlings had only invited their closest friends for a hootenanny...I estimate the audience at less than 500. These were devoted music fans...fans of traditional folk, blues, Americana, and of all the gathered musicians on stage. Not just casual fans only interested in seeing John Paul Jones. From left to right on the front line was our beloved John Paul Jones on mandolins and FIDDLE!!! (who knew?!?), the Master of Ceremonies Dave Rawlings on acoustic guitar and banjo, the beautiful Gillian Welch (wished she had done more from her excellent "The Harrow and the Harvest" album) on acoustic guitar and harmonica, and the amazing Willie Watson ( a real treat for us long-time fans of the Old Crow Medicine Show...his new solo album "Folk Singer, Vol. 1" is a must) on acoustic guitar, banjo, fiddle and harmonica. Behind them was Paul Kowert on standup bass. Everybody took a turn on vocals and lent a hand on backing vocals...even Jonesy. They played an assortment of traditional folk standards such as "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" and "This Land Is Your Land" and some Gillian Welch originals. And they played five KILLER covers towards the end of the show: Led Zeppelin's "Going to California" Bright Eyes "Method Acting" Neil Young's "Cortez the Killer" Bob Dylan's "Queen Jane Approximately" The Band's "The Weight" There were two sets with about a 20-minute intermission in between. They began at 8:10 and finished up around 10:45...over two solid hours of music. The sound and the acoustics of the venue were impeccable. Even though Robert Plant was in town, I don't think he was at the show...at least not visibly and no guest appearance during "Going to California" as I had hoped.. This was the last date of the tour and you could tell they were giving it a little extra juice and having a blast up on stage knowing it was the last night. The intricate acoustic filagrees that Dave and John Paul were weaving all through the night were spellbinding. Here's hoping they do another tour soon and you get a chance to see them. I was able to quietly and unobtrusively take a few photos of the show...I'll post them later. Now, I have work and a Robert Plant concert to get ready for. Here is the setlist from last night: First Set Monkey And The Engineer Going Down the Road Feeling Bad Dry Bones ([traditional] cover) Wayside/Back in Time (Gillian Welch cover) As I Went Out One Morning (Bob Dylan cover) Keep It Clean (Charley Jordan cover) Bells of Harlem It's Too Easy Second Set Ruby Will the Circle Be Unbroken ([traditional] cover) He Will Set Your Fields on Fire (Bill Monroe cover) Sweet Tooth I Hear Them All / This Land Is Your Land (Woody Guthrie cover) Stewball ([traditional] cover) Method Acting / Cortez the Killer Queen Jane Approximately (Bob Dylan cover) Encore: Going to California (Led Zeppelin cover) Look at Miss Ohio (Gillian Welch cover) The Weight (The Band cover) Encore 2: Didn't Leave Nobody but the Baby
  22. Sorry folks, I was in such a rush to get to the concert I left my sheets at work so I won't be able to post the updated season standings until later. But here is the Week 6 schedule of games for those that can't wait to make their picks...like paul. Week 6 Schedule Thursday Indianapolis @ Houston Sunday Chicago @ Atlanta Jacksonville @ Tennessee Baltimore @ Tampa Bay Denver @ New York Jets Detroit @ Minnesota New England @ Buffalo Carolina @ Cincinnati Pittsburgh @ Cleveland Green Bay @ Miami San Diego @ Oakland Dallas @ Seattle Washington @ Arizona New York Giants @ Philadelphia Monday San Francisco @ St. Louis
  23. If you get to the Palladium box office early enough today before the show, they usually release a few tickets at face value before the show. Hell, this show didn't sell out until last week...it was nearly a month after tickets went on sale before I bought mine. $53 is the face value price. Good luck.
  24. I just came back from a long vacation as well as taking time off twice earlier this year. Plus we're now shorthanded at one of my jobs thanks to a guy going cuckoo...so no can do, unfortunately. Look forward to hearing your reports as to what I can expect Nov. 12.
  25. Who is your goalie now that Miller is gone? Where did Miller go again? I know it wasn't to the Ducks as you feared.
