  1. Sometime in summer 1963. Mom, dad and me in front of their Austin-Healey. Fast forward 50+ years to September 2014. Mom and I at her local fruit and veggie market.
  2. Welcome to the Forum Kathy! How cool for you to be able to see Led Zeppelin...so many never had the opportunity to see them. Even the ones that were alive and old enough to see them in the 70s, didn't. Either because of logistics or they weren't fans of the band until it was too late. As for why they don't do what the Stones keep doing...touring the stadium circuit...I can only say that Led Zeppelin's aim and approach to their music and its presentation was and is much different than the Rolling Stones.
  3. Do I hear "ROAD TRIP!"? Not only did I blow my pick because I forgot the game was in London, but I missed most of the game, too. Since I was thinking the game was in Oakland, I planned on the game starting at 1pm PST/4pm EST. My friend is texting me about listening to the Raider-Dolphin game on the radio and I'm going "It's only 11am...why is the Raider game on so early?" D'oh! It's in London, dude! Although...with the way Paul's Dolphins thrashed Oakland, maybe it was just as well I missed out. Save me the horror of watching the mess the Raiders are in.
  4. ^^^ Paul and Walter, you should still be able to edit your original pick post and add in your total runs pick. I did mine that way.
  5. Ha ha ha, you're right Walter...I just rechecked my sheets and I forgot to count your Buffalo pick as a loss. Mistake corrected.
  6. I forgot the Oakland game was in stupid London...no way I should have picked the Raiders winning a game they had to fly half-way around the world for. The NFL had Oakland listed as the HOME team against the Dolphins. Miami is closer to London than Oakland...what the fuck is up with that, NFL?!? Raiders basically are playing only 7 home games this season and 9 road games. I have said it before and I'll say it again...these London games are a ripoff and unfair to both the teams that have to play in them.
  7. Awww, I missed this bit of news. Damn. How long does NPR archive their shows, ebk? Will it still be up by the time I get back to LA this week?
  8. Yes, this was much better than the Jimmy Page appearance. Much more fun and loose and spontaneous atmosphere. But it wasn't just Jimmy Page's fault that his Tonight Show appearance seemed so stiff. I realize that it wasn't a regularly scheduled slot; that Jimmy was pre-taping his time on the show to be broadcast later, which suggests it was all done on-the-fly. Like "Hey Jimmy, we're here in the Northeast to do the Berklee thing...why not shoot over to New York real quick and promote the remasters on the Tonight Show?" Even though it was a small time-slot and pre-taped, Jimmy Fallon failed in that interview. Just the simple act of showing people what the box sets looked like was a failure...all he did was hold the box up? He never showed us what the insides really looked like, the albums or the book or how everything was arranged inside the box. The other major difference in the two appearances is that Robert Plant still seems like a working musician, while Jimmy Page comes off more like a museum curator. Please bring a guitar next time, Jimmy Page.
  9. Congratulations Rick. Have a beer on us!
  10. Heaps of blood on most of our sheets this week. Six of us (including me) were at or under .500 for the weekend. Going into tonight's game, only three people are in it to win the week...Bong-Man, jb126, mack. All of them are at 8-4...two have New England and Bong-Man is the lone wolf with Kansas City. Final scores and season tally to come later tonight.
  11. Well, I sucked. But at least my jb126-method seems to be working. Will Cy Young points count in the over-all total Paul? Great job Paul on the thread and keeping track of everyone's points. It was fun.
  12. American League AL Wild Card Game: Oakland AL Division Series: Angels over Oakland in 7; Baltimore over Detroit in 5. ALCS: Baltimore over Angels in 6. National League NL Wild Card Game: San Francisco NL Division Series: Dodgers over St. Louis in 7; Washington over San Francisco in 7. NLCS: Dodgers over Washington in 7. World Series: Baltimore over Dodgers in 7. Total runs scored: 50
  13. Welcome and sorry your wife and daughter don't share your love for Led Zeppelin. Now, I'm off to look on a map for Skegness, England.
  14. From deep in the woods of Washington, I send a very dear birthday wish to Magic Fills The Air! Miss you here heaps! Cheers!
  15. Nope. I am a figment of your imagination.
  16. Damn your Taters ebk! The Giants shredded, boiled, baked, mashed, made hash browns out of them. What this means of course is that the NFC Least is in complete disarray...there is no rhyme or reason. Which should make Walter happy...his Cowboys should have a very good chance of winning the division. 8-8 might very well do it, Chuck!
  17. It's cool. It was your mention of liking Elvis, Del Shannon, Dion and the other classics of the 50s and early 60s that led me to think you were thinking of Neil Sedaka's hit "Stairway to Heaven", that's all. Welcome to the Forum Blackheart!
  18. KEEP HOPE ALIVE Bong-Man!!!! It means neither the Angels or the Orioles seem to care about getting the best record...not above resting and maintaining the health of their players, at least. If the seeding holds and Angles finish #1 and Baltimore #2, then I believe the Angels would face the Wild Card game winner and the Orioles would face the Central Division Champs.
  19. First of all, a big thank you to Dave Rawlings, Gillian Welch and John Paul Jones for bringing your Machine to Los Angeles at last. I was hoping to see the Seattle show last night but logistically it just didn't work out. But thanks to the added L.A. date on October 6, I will be able to see them after all...and their show is a day before Robert Plant's gig in Hollywood Oct.7! Might there be a chance JPJ and Plant check each other's show out while In L.A.? Possibly even drop in for a song or two on stage together? Could you imagine if Plant came out to sing "Going to California" at the Dave Rawlings Machine show? I guess Sam or SAJ would have the answer to that, as they probably know the tour itineraries best of anyone here. I am as excited to be seeing Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings as I am JPJ on this tour. Their album "The Harrow & the Harvest" and ensuant tour was one of my musical highlights of 2011. Riveting music.
  20. October 7 @ Hollywood Palladium. I will be there...got my ticket last Saturday.
  21. One of the last movies I saw before going on holiday was this fascinating and informative documentary on one of the gloomier periods of U.S. history: "Last Days in Vietnam". Definitely a must-see for anyone interested in history and, given the beginning of our bombing campaign in Syria, still all-too-relevant to today's world. Here is a list of release dates and cities for the film: Sept 5–18, 2014 New York Sunshine Cinema tickets Sept 5–18, 2014 New York Lincoln Plaza tickets Sept 12–Oct 2, 2014 Washington DC E Street Cinema tickets Sept 19– Oct 2, 2014 Boston Kendall Square tickets Sept 19–25, 2014 Philadelphia Ritz Bourse tickets Sept 19–25, 2014 Los Angeles Nuart tickets Sept 26– Oct 2, 2014 Los Angeles The Landmark tickets Sept 26–Oct 2, 2014 San Francisco Opera Plaza tickets Sept 26–Oct 2, 2014 Berkeley Shattuck Cinemas tickets Sept 26–Oct 2, 2014 San Rafael Rafael Film Center tickets Sept 26–Oct 2, 2014 San Jose Camera 3 tickets Sept 26–Oct 2, 2014 San Diego Ken Cinema tickets Sept 26–Oct 2, 2014 Irvine University 6 Sept 26–Oct 2, 2014 Providence Cable Car Cinema tickets Sept 26–Oct 2, 2014 Asbury Park The Showroom tickets Sept 26–Oct 2, 2014 Sag Harbor Sag Harbor Cinema Sept 27-28 Pasadena Laemmle Playhouse 7 tickets Sept 27-28 Claremont Laemmle Claremont 5 tickets Oct 3–9, 2014 Chicago Music Box Theatre Oct 3–9, 2014 Denver Esquire Theatre Oct 3–9, 2014 Seattle Varsity Oct 3–9, 2014 Austin Violet Crown Oct 3–9, 2014 Ann Arbor Michigan Theater Oct 3–9, 2014 Minneapolis Uptown Cinema Oct 3–9, 2014 Sonoma Sebastopol Cinemas Oct 3–9, 2014 Sarasota Burns Court Cinema Oct 10–16, 2014 Phoenix Camelview Oct 10–16, 2014 Amherst Amherst Cinema Oct 10–16, 2014 Rhinebeck Upstate Films Oct 10–16, 2014 Pelham Pelham Picture House Oct 15, 2014 Norfolk Naro Cinema Oct 17–19, 2014 Missoula Roxy Cinema Oct 17–23, 2014 Atlanta Midtown Art Oct 17–23, 2014 Houston Sundance Cinemas Oct 17–23, 2014 Dallas Magnolia Oct 17–23, 2014 Fort Wayne Cinema Center Oct 19–22, 2014 Nashville Belcourt Cinema Oct 20, 2014 Bellingham Pickford Film Center Oct 24–30, 2014 Pittsburgh Harris Theater Oct 24–30, 2014 Tulsa Circle Cinema Oct 29, 2014 Torrance South Bay Film Society Nov 7-Nov 13, 2014 Tucson Loft Cinema Dec 5, 7 & 9, 2014 Columbus Gateway Film Center
  22. My usual "blind man in the dark" picks. Thursday Washington...OMG! Did I just pick the Taters? Sunday Houston...sorry Rick, just can't trust your Williams on the road yet. Baltimore...Camaroons loss to Steelers sent up a red flag. NY Jets...can't trust Lions on the road either. Especially on grass outdoors. Chicago...I have no real reason for picking Chicago. But then I couldn't find a good reason to pick GB, either. Oakland...the Raiders have to win a game sometime. Pittsburgh Indianapolis San Diego...lock of the week? Atlanta...of all the rotten luck for Atlanta...they get a game on the road that's usually in a dome on artificial turf and this is the year the Vikings are playing outdoors because of the new stadium being built. Oh wait...the Vikings got so used to playing indoors that they suck playing outdoors, too! San Francisco...the 49ers can't be that bad, can they? New Orleans...if only the Saints could play Minnesota every week. Monday New England...sorry, I can't take Kansas Shitty seriously. I'm not ready to throw dirt on Brady and Belichick just yet...there's still life in those old bones.
  23. Pagemeister, as always I bow to your timely news items. Thanks for keeping us informed. Well, I thought his interaction with Jimmy Page sucked. It could have been better...it should have been better! Hopefully, his time with Robert will be more interesting.
