  1. I should hope so! I guess it all depends upon the region of the U.S. A Mott reunion tour might have a tough go of it in places like Arkansas, Missouri and Nebraska, but they would absolutely pack 'em in on the coasts...Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Boston, and New York. Throw in Austin, Cleveland, Detroit and Chicago as some of the other music-loving cities that would support a Mott tour. Mott the Hoople did indeed have sizable success in the U.S. back in the '70s. Their 1973 tour even beat out Led Zeppelin's in some music polls. Considering some of the wretched bands that do reunite and tour the U.S., it would be criminal if the Motts didn't at least give it a go!
  2. The O2 also had something like 99-track recording and the latest technological gear at its disposal. You're judging a professional 2007 recording against an amateur 1977 bootleg. Look, the O2 "Kashmir" was epic, no doubt...but, in my admittedly weird opinion, it is missing a key ingredient to be called Zeppelin's finest: John Henry Bonham. No Bonzo = No 'Led Zeppelin'. There's also my other weird requirement for "Kashmir"...the mellotron must be present.

  4. Gobble Gobble! Happy Thanksgiving to you and all our Canadian brethren!
  5. Helped someone move over the weekend and naturally, we moved the important items first: the stereo and the records.
  6. A recent shot taken while getting ready to watch one of the baseball games...playoff beard in the beginning stages.
  7. The Mike Millard recording is the only circulating source out there. The master and 1st generation copies are near complete at around 211-212 minutes...roughly 3 hours and 32 minutes. The only cuts in the tape seem to be in between the songs so no music is lost. Look for the Winston Remasters version of this show...that seems to be the general consensus of what the best quality is available of the Millard tapes.
  8. A big bowl of split pea soup and a glass of California Zinfandel. Cakebread Cellars 2010. With October and the cooler crisp weather of autumn at last arriving at Southern California's doorstep (although it can never be mistaken for a New England autumn), it is prime time for conjuring up soups. Bring out the beans, lentils, veggies, soup stocks and bones. I like to make a big pot to last me through the week. I had a bag of split peas laying around and whipped up a pot earlier today. Threw in a nice big ham hock and a pinch of curry powder.
  9. What the hell? Nobody watched the baseball game tonight? East coast bias! Dodgers finally show up. It's a start but they still need to win tomorrow. Tomorrow will be great...two baseball games with no football to distract attention away.
  10. ^^^ Hahaha, one of my favourite bits from "Sleeper". Just helped someone move into their new home and the shower in the master bathroom looks like an Orgasmatron, hehe.
  11. Yes it is. As is "Stardust Memories". I happen to have a fondness for both partially because of the Black & White cinematography.
  12. As Señor Lobo would say, "Move out of the sticks!"
  13. Hmmm...I guess this is one case where proximity does matter. Yes, it is silly and goofy and preposterous and even self-indulgent. But seeing it with my godson and other friends, we all laughed, and I can only assume that living in Los Angeles and coming into occasional contact in everyday life with some of these actors and knowing their personas, real and imagined, helped us enjoy the movie more than someone in, say, Kansas City or Liverpool might. I loved how they either amplified their perceived identities (James Franco's supposed homosexuality, Danny McBride's redneck-white-trash party animal) or turned them on their head (usually sweet Michael Cera as a coked-out asshole, Harry Potter's innocent Emma Watson as a bad-ass bitch). Looking back on the film many months later, I suppose it relies on a lot of in-jokes...too many for its own good, perhaps. Interestingly, and probably tellingly, while it is probably out of theatres in the rest of the country, it is still playing in movie houses here in Los Angeles. Definitely not a movie to take the kids to, either. Yes, this was very good and it was hard to resist crying. While everyone was going gaga over that overrated "The Butler", this superior movie unfortunately slipped through the cracks with only minimal distribution and a minuscule fraction of the attention that the Lee Daniels-Oprah Winfrey blatant Oscar-bait received. Catch it on DVD or cable if your theatres didn't carry this honestly moving film. "Gravity" is still the must-see in theatres right now, followed by "Captain Phillips". Recent disappointments include "The Place Beyond the Pines" and "We're the Millers". Then, there are the out-and-out godawful "Baggage Claim" and "Machete Kills". Waste of time and money. Avoid like the plague.
  14. Is it really, kenog? I tried watching one of those "Under Review" things on Led Zeppelin...or maybe it was Pink Floyd...and it was like pulling teeth. Painful. I'll get into this in a future post, but thinking back to 1973 (how did 40 years pass so quickly? ), while Led Zeppelin was no question #1 in my heart, their music was getting varied and attaining nuances that were broadening their scope. You could party to them, sure, but they were also mystical and cerebral and just plain weird sometimes. For purely 'party rock' purposes, there were three bands in 1973 that were the kings of boozy & bawdy no muss-no fuss rock and roll: The Faces, The Alice Cooper Band, and Mott the Hoople.
  15. Not as incendiary as 6/21 or 6/23, but 6/25 is a good solid show, and it has the advantage over 6/22 and 6/26 in that it is another stellar Mike Millard recording, so the sound quality is top-notch all the way through. You get one of the only two "In My Time of Dying" performed in LA (the other being 6/22), with a little improv of Little Richard's "Rip It Up" at the middle break after the slide solo (the concert was on a Saturday night). You get a "No Quarter" that while not great, is good and still thoroughly enjoyable, as all NQs were at the Forum. You get "Trampled Under Foot" in between "Kashmir" and the drum solo, which was always a nice addition to the set. You get the ONLY "Communication Breakdown" of 1977! Some may say that was a good thing, but it was nice to finally get something other than "WLL-Rock and Roll" as the encore. You get the shortest "White Summer" (always a good thing) of the LA run, which leads into... ...the longest and greatest "Kashmir" ever! I call that a WIN! NFBM from 6/25/77: The only 1977 CB:
  16. Good grief and good luck. I see the story mentions Matt Flynn was sacked seven times in his lone start for the Raiders before getting cut. Well, Terrell Pryor was sacked 10 times against the Chiefs yesterday...are they gonna can him now?
  17. ^^^ Very few men can resist the charms of a sexy schoolgirl outfit. While Uma and Vivica and Daryl and Gogo all had some training, I'm sure, for their fight scenes, the majority of the fighting was done by their stunt doubles, including the legendary Kiwi herself, Zoe Bell, who doubled for Uma and Daryl in the "Kill Bill" movies. You have to see this brilliant clip of the behind the scenes footage of Quentin Tarantino filming some of the Uma vs. Vivica fight with their stunt doubles Zoe Bell(Uma) and Angela Meryl(Vivica). Check out the part at 2:29...OUCH!
  18. What a flop. It should have been called "MaSHITTY Kills".
  19. So are they a Led Zeppelin tribute band or an original band?
  20. Tonight is the season for the Dodgers...they HAVE to win. Simple as that. They cannot come back from an 0-3 deficit. They don't have the fortitude nor the managerial know-how.
  21. ^^^ Your blind hatred for New England is affecting your judgement Rick. How long have you been saying Brady and Belicheck were done? Yet they are 5-1 and still lead the AFC East as always. Miami has a shot at winning the division? Maybe more than Buffalo has, but realistically their chance is slim. I said at the beginning of the season that teams needed to beat New England early while they were still working in their new players into the system to replace the ones gone thru injury or trade/free agency. The first couple of months were when the Patriots would be most vulnerable. Buffalo and Miami's only chance was for New England to stumble out of the gate at 2-4 or 3-3. Instead, New England sits at 5-1 and they will only get better as the season progresses and Belicheck and the coaching staff meld the team and Brady develops more chemistry with his new receivers. By November and December, the Patriots will be humming. New England just beat New Orleans. Neither Miami or Buffalo have a comparable win on their ledger. Hate all you want but the Patriots aren't going away.
  22. I picked San Diego, but come on Rick, Indy is more "real" than San Diego at this point. The Chargers lost to the Raiders. They lost to the Titans. They even lost to HOUSTON ferchrissakes!
  23. Bliss indeed! That sounds like one scrumptious spread.
