I spent last night watching Looney Tunes on the big screen...the way they were meant to be seen amd originally were from the 1920s to the 1970s. You always got a cartoon before the movie. Chuck Jones would have been 101 yesterday and the American Cinematheque hosted a Chuck Jones 101 Birthday Tribute with his widow, children and grandchildren in attendance. June Foray, Leonard Maltin and Charles Solomon were also on hand. And Daffy, Bugs, Elmer, Porky, Wile E., Roadrunner, and Mel Blanc, God rest his soul. A night of a thousand laughs. I'm very happy for you and your family. Certain movies deserve to be seen on the screen in a theatre with other people laughing and enjoying the film, the way the director intended the movie to be seen. "The Wizard of Oz" is one! The colours, the sets, the costumes, the singing and dancing, Ray Bolger, JUDY GARLAND! Certain details get lost watching it on tv or dvd, no matter how big your plasma widescreen tv is. Movie-going is a communal activity, not a hermetic one, and some movies are just better seen with a crowd of people sharing the experience. I hope you all enjoyed it...although I kind of wish your first viewing of "The Wizard of Oz" was the normal version. I'm not sure 3D is necessary or even beneficial to a film such as "The Wizard of Oz". They had the big premiere for the IMAX 3D version last week at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, where it opened to the public on Friday. The Chinese Theatre had its grand reopening, too, after the Chinese bought it last year and it was changed from Grauman's Chinese Theatre to TCL Chinese Theatre. They've presumably made some changes, although thankfully, they've kept the movie star hand-and-footprints in cement in the courtyard. That's wonderful...pm me if he has any questions about a certain film and I'll try to help.

Hoky smokes! Mark, that's awesome! I am old enough to remember this match...I even had money on it with some schoolmates. The money I won helped pay for my Who ticket for their Quadrophenia tour. Bobby Riggs had demolished Margaret Court in a previous match and many felt the same would happen again with Billie Jean King. But Margaret Court was old and past her prime in tennis years. That wasn't the case with Billie Jean Case. Anyone who watched tennis back then could tell Ms. King had the goods to beat boastful Bobby. It was quite the circus event, and would have far-reaching effect in the long run. It was more than just a tennis match. You have to remember, it was only shortly before this that women were allowed to have their own credit cards and bank accounts. I have some friends in Houston but I think they were born after this match. The Astrodome is still there...albeit kind of a neglected artifact, now that the newer, bigger and shinier Reliant Stadium is sitting next door. Thanks for the memory flashback Mark. Absolutely Bonzo_fan! I much prefer the January 1975 setlist to the February-March one. It is fascinating to hear "How Many More Times" again after being absent for so long. It would have been incredible to hear "Wanton Song" and "Levee" in March as the band got healthier and more comfortable with the songs. And with "How Many More Times", Jimmy could still do his wizard with the bow act with all the sturm und drang. A golden opportunity missed. Oh, and perhaps I should clarify...there are no RECORDED "Oceans" between May 5 and May 28, 1973. It's probable and even likely that they played "The Ocean" sometime between Tampa and San Diego...New Orleans? Texas? Mobile?...we just don't have any evidence on tape.

This isn't as difficult or interesting question to ponder as your other questions, for several reasons. Unlike "Dazed and Confused", "Over the Hills and Far Away", "Since I've Been Loving You", and "No Quarter", which could vary night to night, year to year, "The Ocean" was pretty much performed as it was on the album, with the only variation being whether Robert Plant would remember the lyrics. That's why all the live versions are around 4 minutes long. Then, there is the fact that there are only 20 known recorded performances to choose from...and of those 20, only about half in decent sound quality. The Hamburg '73 is atrocious...why couldn't the soundboard tape have kept running through the encore? I like the June 25, 1972 Forum one on the official HTWWW release...it has the Bonzo count-in, the lyrics in the right place, and good sound. But really, you can't go wrong with any of them. The 1973 MSG on TSRTS is also a great one, even though Plant switches verses 2 and 3. LA, San Francisco, Seattle...all good. But it is strange that there is no "Ocean" between the one in Tampa on May 5 and San Diego May 28! No "Ocean" in Chicago either...and they played TWO NIGHTS there!!! This is another case, much like "The Rover", where the band didn't seem to know what a great song they had in hand. It should have been played much more often.

No need to be envious. Yes, it is like choosing a favourite child, but somewhere here on the forum I did do a ranking of the concerts I saw. I don't know if the Search function works well enough to find my post, but it's out there. Unfortunately it is late and I'm too tired to look for it now. I can tell you that 6.25.72 and 6.23.77 are pretty much locked in at #1 and #2.

Ways the original 1976 vinyl release is superior to the 2007 Remaster. 1. Celebration Day 2. No Quarter 3. The Song Remains the Same 4. Dazed and Confused 5. Whole Lotta Love 6. The crowd/background noise isn't overbearing. Ways the 2007 Remaster is better than the 1976 release: 1. Misty Mountain Hop/Since I've Been Loving You 2. The Ocean 3. Heartbreaker 4. Improvement in the sound, especially the bass and drums. Albeit at the expense of some naturalness. The 1976 version wins 6-4. Other reasons the 2007 Remaster gets demerits...the shocking butchering of "Black Dog", "No Quarter", "Whole Lotta Love", "Dazed and Confused", and "Celebration Day" makes me cringe to this day. The lack of "Communication Breakdown" and "Thank You" is also a minus. I listen to my 1976 original TSRTS almost exclusively now. I only put on the Remaster when I want to hear The Ocean and Misty Mountain Hop and SIBLY...and then, it's usually the dvd not the cd.

I have a deep feeling of foreboding about my picks this week. I sense impending doom. Just couldn't get a sure grasp on several games...flip-flopping back and forth between teams.
