  1. Nice clip Sam...takes me way back. Allow someone who was there(June 22, 1976) to add his two cents. It is quite possible that that is not John Bonham in the clip, but rather Howie Casey, one of the horn players on that 1976 Wings Over America tour. Look at the 1:04 mark of the above clip; that's Howie Casey with Denny Laine...looks awful similar to the guy backstage, doesn't it? See the bottom photo in this link. http://www.howiecasey.com/images/Paul_McCartney_&_Howie_Casey_in_Flight_22nd._May_'76.jpg If it is Bonzo in that footage, then it doesn't necessarily mean that it was shot at the Forum on June 21, 1976. There were three dates at the Forum(Ringo could have been at all three, even if he only appeared on stage at one). Also, not all of the stage and backstage footage in the above clip was shot at the Forum. So it is possible that that clip with Bonham(or Howie Casey) was taken at another show. I know the Forum like the back of my hand. THAT was shot at the Forum...you can see the familiar Forum columns and the Forum Club entrance as the Chicken marches. The San Diego Chicken wasn't only limited to San Diego appearances. He would show up just about anywhere.
  2. Simply splendid news. Are they fraternal or identical twins? Best wishes to the mum and little dear ones. And congratulations Grandma!
  3. Good gawd...sound the alarm! He's back. Talk about a blast from the past. Who knew the Big Klu was still lurking about? Has the Angel's disastrous season so disillusioned you that you've come back to these forums in a daze, Klu? Back on topic. ESPN is such a joke...they've already got an article up in their "Insider" section on their website asking if the "Miami Heat is the best team ever?" Really? After winning exactly one title, who in their right mind would rank them among the best ever, let alone say they were the best. I guess I am pulling for San Antonio by default. Not that I want Duncan and the Spurs to tie Kobe and the Lakers. But I hate the Heat much more than the Spurs. Makes you laugh about all this talk about the old Spurs...here they get another long week off to rest up for the next series. Paul, it would be ironic if it turns out that the one team you feared, the NY Knicks, would have been better for your Heat to face than Indiana.
  4. Black granite. 'Nuff said.
  5. Yeah Paul, the Angels won 8 straight...and still were 9 back of Texas. Then they promptly lose two in a row to the Dodgers in this 4-game home-and-home Freeway Series, losing more ground. The big question arrives tonight. Jered Weaver comes back from the DL and starts against the Dodgers. If he can regain his form and be the ace of the staff again, it might help the Angels make up some ground. But if he struggles and is ineffective or worse, gets injured again, then I don't see the Angels catching Texas.
  6. 40 years ago tonight... May 28, 1973 San Diego. Note to abrachel: As Sue pointed out, this thread is for LIVE Led Zeppelin, either what concert or particular song from the concert you are listening to. That's why this is called the Live section of the forum.
  7. He sounded great at the Forum in 1977. Compare Robert's voice on the 1977 tour with 1975 and it's no contest...1977 wins hands down. The problem with 1979 and 1980 is his overuse of the harmonizer.
  8. Well, what do you expect when you rely on the internet as your database for your list? Of course it's going to be flawed. It's like relying on wikipedia for information. What are you talking about? There was nothing accidental about it...Kurt got the idea for the song title from the Teen Spirit ads that were prevalent at the time.
  9. Alphabetical by artist, with each artist's catalogue arranged chronologically, official releases first, then bootlegs, if any.
  10. The band should have multitracked every show. Ok...a tad unfeasable. But at least multitrack the 1973 Euro tour.
  11. March 27, 1975 at the Fabulous Forum of Inglewood. The end of a very long four day stretch of concerts and some irresponsible behaviour finally caught up with me and I dozed off during "Moby Dick". I was woken up during "Dazed and Confused" by a buddy and totally felt embarrassed for falling asleep.
  12. Looks like the real Miami Heat finally showed up, Paul.
  13. Led Zeppelin has nothing to do with that image, nor is that image linked to the song "Stairway to Heaven" in any official capacity. It looks like one of those treacly pieces by Thomas Kincaide, an artist Led Zeppelin had nothing to do with. That piece was created long after "Stairway" came out, and if the artist titled it "Stairway to Heaven" that was his own doing and in no way makes it the official image of the song. Personally, the image I connect with the song "Stairway to Heaven" is the inside artwork of Led Zeppelin IV when you open the double-gated cover.
  14. It was awesome. They had the sound cranked so loud that my ears were even ringing a bit after the show. I have now seen "Celebration Day" 5 times in a theatre and it never loses its magic and power...and I always discover something new each time I see it on the big screen. Some new detail or something in the background I hadn't notice before...like Ross Halfin lurking around the stage. The Hendrix was revelatory, as well. I have seen bits and pieces of Hendrix's Woodstock performance over the years, from the Woodstock movie itself to the various Jimi Hendrix documentaries over the years. But I had never seen the entire Woodstock performance uncut and in the proper running order...that Jimi Live at Woodstock video that came out in the 90s was missing songs and in the wrong order. I had heard Jimi's whole Woodstock performance before...but seeing it is a whole different thing than just hearing it. Especially on a giant screen with Jimi blown up to colossal size and with sound to match. I will post a more detailed take on it over in the Jimi Hendrix thread.
  15. Ah, if only they still had the Concorde flights. Quick...Hop on board, ebk!
  16. Too bad you don't live in LA Dave. Guess I'll give the ticket to the first girl I see.
  17. Just to remind everyone in the LA/Southern California area that the American Cinematheque is showing Led Zeppelin's "Celebration Day" tonight, along with a brand new documentary on Jimi Hendrix's Woodstock appearance, which includes the complete restored performance. It is at the Aero Theatre on Montana Avenue near 14th St. in Santa Monica. I have an extra ticket for free if anyone wants it...PM me. The Hendrix at Woodstock is first at 7:30pm, then the Zeppelin will start around 9:15-9:30pm. Double Feature! Rock Docs 2013 HENDRIX 70: LIVE AT WOODSTOCK / LED ZEPPELIN - CELEBRATION DAY HENDRIX 70: LIVE AT WOODSTOCK 2012, Omniverse Vision, 99 min, USA, Dir: Michael Wadleigh, Bob Smeaton Three muddy days of peace and music, Woodstock was one of the defining events of a generation. The epochal rock festival closed with headliner Jimi Hendrix, who lit up the stage with hits like "Fire," "Purple Haze" and "Foxy Lady" as well as one of the greatest versions of "The Star-Spangled Banner” ever heard. This digitally restored live performance is preceded by a documentary about the road to Woodstock, including interviews with Hendrix band members Mitch Mitchell and Billy Cox. LED ZEPPELIN - CELEBRATION DAY 2012, Omniverse Vision, 124 min, UK, Dir: Dick Carruthers In December 2007, the surviving members of legendary rock group Led Zeppelin - John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant - reunited in honor of their old friend Ahmet Ertegun, the founder of Atlantic Records. Joined by Jason Bonham (son of their late drummer, John Bonham), the band burned through a historic 16-song set at London's O2 Arena in front of the 18,000 fans lucky enough to have won the ticket lottery (20 million people applied). This concert film documents the historic concert, with songs including "Rock and Roll," "Kashmir" and "Stairway to Heaven" in ear-shattering surround sound. WEBSITE Screening formats: DCP Aero Theatre • Sat, May 25 • 7:30pm
  18. Staying alive after all the drugs, booze and debauchery of his youth.
  19. David Stern is having nightmares right now. The Western Conference is already guaranteed to send a ratings dud to the Finals...San Antonio has been part of several of the lowest-rated Finals in history and Memphis wouldn't be an improvement. Now he has Indiana giving Miami fits in the East. Stern is praying the Heat make it thru to the Finals. I'm not one who believes in referee conspiracies, but you better believe that those who do will be watching every Miami-Indiana game very closely and parsing every call that goes against the Pacers for proof that the League is trying to get Miami into the Finals.
  20. For discussions of the best live versions of "No Quarter", here are a couple threads... http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/3297-no-quarter/ http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/19327-best-no-quarter-solo/
  21. As I mentioned on another thread, this topic has been discussed many times previously...check the above threads for suggestions.
  22. An Offenburg '73 soundboard is one of the Holy Grails, if you ask me.
  23. Hear hear! I rank Godfatherecords "That's Alright, New York" as the best version of 2.12.75 out there and on a par with such official releases as "The Song Remains the Same". Same goes for their version of the 2.16.75 St. Louis show..."Roll Saint Louis Roll" blows EVSD's "St. Louis Blues" out of the water!
