  1. As a fan of all three bands, I respectfully disagree. Just listen to this song, there are five great guitar riffs. The first two minutes of the song sounds nothing like the last two minutes of the song . . . and they aren't even the best riffs of the album (I'd give that honor to the riffs from Sabbra Cadabra and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath).
  2. Yeah. Geezer definitely came up with some of Sabbath's riffs, and he also wrote most of their pre-Dio lyrics. Iommi wrote most of the riffs though. And Iommi is still writing great riffs. Edit: I found a quote from Geezer that leads me to believe Tony was doing most of the heavy lifting as far as the riffs go. "Geezer: When we first used to write, it used to be all together. That's the way it was done. Tony would come out with a riff, then I would put the bass in and Bill Ward would drum along." http://www.black-sabbath.com/interviews/tonygeez_0594.html
  3. Here you go. Or if that's not your flavor, you can have this. I said Iommi is better at writing riffs, and I don't even think it's close. If Page wrote every Zeppelin riff, I would have them tied at #1, but as far as I know, JPJ wrote a lot of Zeppelin's riffs, especially the ones that are notes instead of chords. If we're talking about solos or overall, I'd take Page over Iommi. I don't think Richards even belongs in the discussion.
  4. Tony Iommi was the best riff writer I've ever heard (I used to have him tied with Page until I found out JPJ wrote most of my favorite Zeppelin riffs). This isn't a Sabbath video, but I think it's a great medley of some of Iommi's best work. If you can name the songs all the riffs are from in the right order, you win a prize. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1tjkCyYeeQ
  5. 10 That's one of the last Zeppelin songs I discovered (I was introduced to the band by downloading one song at a time, not albums). It quickly became one of my favorites. I completely agree that it's underrated. Regarding Aerosmith, check out Adam Carolla's recent podcast with Steven Adler (former drummer of Guns n Roses). He talks about his sexual adventure with Steven Tyler and nine girls, as well as Mr. Tyler's "rig." I love the drumming in this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0XLKcMoXRE
  6. My print screen key is at the top-right of the keyboard and it says "Prnt Scrn." It's not part of the home key. It will probably say "Sys Rq" on the same key.
  7. Do you have Windows? If so, go to the start menu, click "Programs" then click "Accessories" and Paint should be in there.
  8. 8 I believe they threw that song together at the last minute, but it still turned out to be great. Here's one of their under-appreciated songs. It's about sperm, and questions why we all happened to win the lottery of life. There are like six great riffs, so please don't judge the whole song by the first two minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guFHGUEScwg
  9. Also, between steps 2 and 3, once you have MS Pain (or whatever) open, hold the CTRL button and press V (the CTRL button should be on the bottom left of your keyboard), or just right click and select "Paste." That should make the image appear in the program.
  10. Coming in at over 600 pages, it's quite a tome. It's pretty good. I think it's slightly overrated though.
  11. I like the Stones, but that song is pretty dull. 5/10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1_dPyBR_eY&feature=related Yeah, I posted an etude. Get over it.
  12. 7. I love the riff and lyrics, but the solo and rhythm section are pretty mediocre. The songs starts around 1:30 if you want to skip ahead.
  13. I'm not a fan of the genre, but it's good for the genre, so I'll give it a 6. This is one of my absolute favorite riffs. Iommi is a god. R.I.P. Dio. Dio was great at writing songs that make you think. I listened to Children of the Sea for years without realizing it was a warning about how mankind is destroying the environment. And that song was written 30 years ago. But I digress. Here's one of my favorite songs from his final album. The lyrics of this song are pretty deep, addressing an unfortunate aspect of human nature.
  14. 6 I liked some parts and found others uninteresting. The part that started around 2:30 was great though. I saw something from Dune posted on the last page. Here's Iron Maiden's take on Dune. I love the bass in this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY80pGWX92g&feature=related
  15. Just listen to Sad Wings of Destiny. If you still don't get it, sorry. 6 The voice was really annoying, but otherwise it wasn't bad. Since you gave me some Texan music, here's some Viking music in return.
  16. The new album is great. It gets better every time I listen to it. If you only listen to one song off the new album, let it be this one:
  17. 7 Not bad at all. You might want to send the kids out of the room before playing this one.
  18. I love Iron Maiden. They are one of my favorite metal bands. They managed to do a song about execution (Hallowed be thy Name) better than Zeppellin (Gallows Pole).
  19. 8 Good cover of a good song. I have no idea what the hell is going on around them though.
  20. *yawn* 5/10 This next song is special. The album is not out yet. It's a leak. I actually haven't heard it yet (but that's obviously about to change). It was just leaked a few hours ago, so you'll be hearing this before thousands of Maiden fans who have been waiting for months. Based on the reviews I've read, it's supposed to be a great epic, so please don't bother rating it if you're only going to listen to the first three minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBTWmW18kek
