  1. Bad news from the Hotel Orleans (and a big thank you to Andy Adams)...the four tracks included on the Wendy 3CD are copied from the Beeb 71 Paris Theatre show. What a rip off ๐Ÿ˜ก
  2. I wouldn't call the 5/18 & 5/23 pretty bad sounding audience recordings. Especially the better recording from 5/18 is quite atmospheric. 5/23 is nicely balanced but a little overloaded at times. Video wise, since the giant Ephidor screen needed a video feed, there 's no reason why the first two night weren't video taped. Did these reels survive?I honestly don't know. Very little footage showing the vast Earl's Court audience exists, so a longer video compilation combined with the low video resolution, would be a little tedious for casual fans.
  3. Yonks ago, when animals still talked. Around 1991, I think, there was the Lost and Found story on mysterious Zeppelin tape boxes. The content of these tape boxes led to the silver release of Scorpio's 'Studio Daze' and 'Jennings Farm Blues'. With hinsight you could assume this was a fabricated story, but it wasn't. Andy Adams of the fanzine 'Early Days & Latter Days' was describing a box that contained the multitrack 2" tape from Long Beach. A similar box with studio recordings for 'No Quarter' and another containing LZIII stuff including 'That's the Way', Since I've been loving you plus Blues Medley (AKA 'Feel So Bad'). Nothing spectacular you might think...but the interesting part comes next. The Long Beach reel contained Moby Dick (only to be released two years later on 'One More Daze', One tape box containing a 1/4" (two track) reel from Toronto 1971 which contained the well known SB material (Stairway- Moby Dick) and another tape box with Hampton 71 (also still unreleased in 1991). Andy Adams clearly states the Toronto reel was "all there is, there is no more". The fact these randomly 'found' (stolen?) tape boxes were part of larger tape archive is for sure. Hugh Jones published an interview with "Mr. Jennings" in Proximity (1999) revealing more or less the same story, from a different perspective. Compare the details from the official Super deluxe releases (2014-15). Most likely the 1/4" reel to reel tape from Toronto was/is reel nr.2 from a set of three. Hampton same story. Just like the 1971 Osaka SB material, you can rest assured there is more...only the bootleggers don't have it right now. I'll enclose the Andy Adams article from 'Early Days & Latter Days', issue 2 (1991). Happy reading!
  4. + me TOO...can't comprehend 'Montreux' jumps over Fillmore W 69. I was already shocked to see Texas Pop got wiped out earlier ๐Ÿ˜ž and Seattle 73 still in the game. C'mon guys, where 's justice!!!
  5. Great job, William and Robert๐Ÿ‘. @Robert, I'm afraid William is right, that photo depicting Plant in blue open shirt and Bonzo shows them playing Friends, so 929 it is. By the way, are we the only three punters here at the forum who acquired the Live 71-72 Japan book? I would love to read other opinions here (@Pluribus, Steve A Jones... where are you guys???)
  6. you surely must have seen this picture of Bonzo jamming' with Jimmy (using a Greco Gibson ES copy?), Jonesy (sporting a Yamaha Samurai bass), playing seated in a Japanese club/pub. Always wondered what they were playing that night
  7. DHL delivered the Live Tour in Japan 71-72 book today (ordered from amazon Jp, shipped on 30 sept.!!!!, economy air mail). What to say?..the 'usual suspects' are included. The Teriyaki and sushi meal, the band visiting Hiroshima, ceremony at town hall, press conference and rehearsal plus in concert stuff...all filed chronologically . Strangely enough the pub jam session is not included (and no 929 shots either:-( Thankfully there's a lot more to enjoy, however most concert pics from 71 are severely under exposed, blurred and not always sharp. A pleasant surprise are the 1972 pictures. Superior to most 71 pictures...and IMHO more appealing. The text? Japanese only but that was to be expected. Disappointed? no, but be sure to set your expectations not too high. Kinda visual warts and all documentary. Not an award winning coffee table photo book.
  8. Yep, Bloody Hell indeed...but IMHO you don't need the 6CD. It's a rehash of a previous (2010) 'Duophonic release on EV. pus Night Owl's job on two extra cd's. Seemed like a good idea to present the old Blimp/TMOQ mono tape together with the more recent stereo sources, but that Duophonic version was downright irritating...too much switching between different sources๐Ÿ˜ก I've settled for the 2CD incarnation ' BB Hill stereo Matrix' (which is of course NightOwl's only).
  9. https://www.collectorsmusicreviews.com/empress-valley-label/empress-valley-issue-a-blueberry-hill-matrix/ Seemingly the folks from Empress Valley are planning to cash in on Night Owl's Labour of Love. I hope they're giving him at least the credits
  10. Ah ...the official 'Houses of the Holy' T shirt. I had one of those during my teens๐Ÿ˜œ
  11. I ordered through Amazon.jp...no problem https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4401648102/ref=pe_492632_159100282_TE_item With normal priority shipping and a deposit for import duties, the price tag becomes pretty steep though๐Ÿ˜ก
  12. Undoubtedly they must have raided the tax free shops in Tokyo on arrival, September 21. The band, Peter Grant and Cole bought all bought expensive Nikon gear (Nikon F single lens reflex, Nikkormat, Nikon R8 cinรฉ camera's). Since the early sixties until the new millenium Nikon was King in high end photography. The Akai video cam was consumer grade equipment. Quite expensive as well, but home video technology was still at its infancy. I think the B&W footage from those reels- if they survived !- will be a tough ride to view, let alone restore.
  13. These budget EV re issues are a way to clean up over stock cd's. Seemingly these re issues share the same matrix/catalog number with their premium priced predecessors, except they are packaged in a different box and jackets. Only slightly more expensive than acquiring the three budget Moonchild 'Get Back to L.A' volumes, but much more attractive, if you ask me.
  14. An interesting new book focussing on the two Japan tours in 1971-1972 https://diskunion.net/metal/ct/detail/HMHR190819-200 From what I understand it is stuffed with newly unearthed negatives and it will be released on September 28 coinciding with their first show in Osaka.
  15. Me too! two of my favorite plantations. Also grew accustomed with the way he fills instrument swaps/tunings during BB Hill; "For those shouting obscenities, it's all gonna come" or " What about growing a beard". Even during the first Dallas show in March 75 he manages to create a club atmosphere by punning Jones "He has been watching Liberace" and "Now, before this turning into a Gospell meeting (Bonzo; "Hallelujah')...". I could go on for ages
  16. have you compared it with the real Winston remaster on the WWW? I found Moonchild's really dull sounding.
  17. in my book, all 929s, Voodoo in the Gardens-Stoke 73, BB Hill, Seattle Supersonic 73, Burn Like a Candle, ...should be handled with caution.
  18. Recollecting the Baker's Dozen philosophy of Underground Uprising, anyone care to join me in compiling an 'Introduction to Live Zep' ? Cherry picking the very best from the Moonchild roster and clearly aimed at the young/inexperienced silver collector (short on 'dough') Unfortunately there's a giant blind spot as far as the the early years go. For instance they haven't re-released essential 69 shows (except for Denmark) and the two 1970 shows (RAH and BBHill) aren't exactly crowning achievements either๐Ÿ˜ˆ So we have to stick to 1971-1980. With the exception of Beeb 71, titles that have been released officially like How the West was redone and The Song Remains the Same are excluded. I bought a couple of dozens, so I can't speak of their complete output. Here's a chronological list of my fave cheapo's BBC 1971. The 96 Japan rebroadcast that inspired Jimmy to re-mix the BBC Paris Cinema show with a less extreme stereo separation. Going To California 14 sept 1971 Probably a straight copy of Godfather's version, but exemplary remastering nevertheless Rock Carnival Tokyo Budokan 23 sept 1971 Includes the frustratingly short but powerful Watchtower source covering the first 50 minutes. Burst on Fire, Southampton 1973 An average show but the superb fidelity multi track and the intimate setting makes this a no brainer Goodnight Vienna 1973 mixing a near excellent mono AUD tape and the 60' SB recording seamlessly, one of the very best from Europe 73 That's Allright New York 1975. A Matrix of the excellent AUD source and the Soundboard Revolution (a copy of the Godfather's version)? A much loved collectors favorite. Rocky Mountain Hop. More than just a warm up for the legendary Seattle show. Great performance Hammer of the Gods vol.1&2. Very long, perfect quality...rightfully one of the three best 75 shows! For Badgeholders Only. After the soundboard revolution, the newbie collector might forget there are stunning aud recordings, this is one of them Dazzling Daze vol.2 Probably the best 'latter day' show...slightly thin sounding AUD, but very well balanced curious to see your selection, fellow Zepheads -
  19. My copies of Kutabare Moonchild and Tokyo Rock Carnival arrived today. Kutabare is a disappointment. Mainly because they decided to fold down the stereo signal from Whole Lotta Love medley to mono, which IMO sucks out the life of that recording. Why ???? ๐Ÿ˜ก I still would have preferred a nicely executed matrix, employing both the latest Wendy 'multi track dub' and the newly unearthed SB portion on EV. So Moonchild's third effort on 929 gets -again!- a big thumbs down. Not recommended.๐Ÿ‘Ž The Rock Carnival Budokan 2CD is better (not 'definitive' however....Too patchy). The only truly excellent sounding Budokan source I heard is the short fragmented 50 minutes tape issued by Watchtower many years ago. And thankfully it's here.Like Kutabare I would have made preferred some other patches, but on the whole it's OK (especially at the set price)
  20. Acetates have a much softer surface compared to vinyl, haven't they? I don't think noted collector Robert Godwin was very enthousiastic of the acetate medium...Too expensive and after a few spins the grooves wore out.
  21. +1 in this department. Wait until the multi's for EC 5/24 (combined with 5/25) get unleashed. Fasten your seatbelt, fellow Zepheads, cause the oomph will blow your minds.
  22. I own both Divinity and the Eat a Peach Montreux titles. The AUD source on EAP was lacking power, but how does the SB portion compare to the Great Beast?
  23. Welcome RoyHarper, The Nassau shows (Feb 13 and 14) and -most of all- Seattle (March 21) should be on your shopping list next. Most of the 75 SB have their share of magic moments, so there's much more to explore: Baton Rouge, Vancouver, Ft.Worth, both Dallas shows... dig in deep.
