  1. On this day August 31st 1970, Neil Young released his album, After the Gold Rush. A great day for the music world and one of my favorites! Missy The studio cut of "Southern Man." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08gzC3DuBAo The beautiful "After the Goldrush," from the Rust Never Sleeps tour in 1978. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N88YgEKGMzI And the inspiring "Don't Let it Bring You Down, from Chicago live, 1992. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR2JGJ7i5kg
  2. This...... And now this. It is August 31st after all, and feels like the Last Day of Summer to me.
  3. So sorry to hear that slave...and no chance of reschedule? I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope you get some good news from Jason and the band soon. Missy
  4. Better yet, Jahfin, better yet. And guess what? I checked 2 venues near me (apparently he isn't going to do the South except Alabama and I have no interest to travel there) Pittsburgh and Fairfax and the ticket prices are between 60-100 dollars (fees included). That is 20 percent of what the Eagles wanted. I think that is a very fair price. The 97.00 seats I looked at in Pittsburgh, were back from the standing only floor area but center and first or second row. Been so long since I've been to larger venues, these maps are killing me to figure out. They have the maps with the numbered areas and Risers and Suites and Boxes and Pull out Seating. What the? I don't want to have to decide between all these different set-ups. I just want to get myself front and center with a chair thank-you (I'm not 20 anymore) as close to the band as possible with no obstructions. Why do they have to make it complicated at Ticketmaster? Well, looks like I may be taking a little trip North. Anyone here know the Fairfax area? I'm wondering off the top of my head if the Blue Ridge Mountains run nearby. Thanks for any comments and info. Missy
  5. Oh my!! Neil you never cease to amaze (and confuse) me. I thought I read or just assumed from my bios on Neil that this was going to be a big Americana push concert. Not that I don't like the album, think it had a few good songs, but wasn't willing to fly out of state to see only Americana. But this setlist.....Love and Only Love, Cinnamon Girl, Powderfinger, TNATDD, plus some new songs too? Wow! I haven't checked yet but here's hoping if there are remaining seats in the closet venue to me, they aren't priced over the moon like the Eagles tickets were. I'll report back after I find out. Thanks for posting this setlist, what a great show this would be to see.
  6. I like this version a lot, still prefer the original but that may be due to the sentimentality I have towards the record and memories etc. What seems different to me on this one, is the mixing. Not sure that is the right word but the re-mastered CD has Neil's voice with the music and his voice is almost bit "muddled" at times, imo. Here, the clarity is amazing and you hear his vocals note by note, same with REM. Hard to explain, perhaps the producer had a lot to do with the improved clarity/high quality sound too. My second favorite if we are talking albums, not standalone songs. Right behind Zuma. Zuma being first due to the first inclusion of Cortez. I found a brand new clip on Y/T from the year 1985 of this song. This was the year I saw him in St. Pete. But in the USA he was alone and mostly acoustic show and looks like the Aussies got the whole 9 yards with the International Harvesters and Crazy Horse for the Melbourne show. Anyway, for Neil fans take a listen and enjoy! Missy
  7. Jahfin, thanks for the link. Wow, hate to think how that accident could have been even worse for both parties all due to texting while driving. I can not understand why that is permitted in any state if it still is....It reminds me of the long ago Brady Bunch episode where Greg hit someone (or almost did) looking at the back of a new record album while driving. Another thing Jahfin, is I figured since I was going to post I'd put up a video of Peter Frampton from his Humble Pie days. I never followed that band and so turned to You/Tube. Do you know there are not many Humble Pie videos up at all. I wonder if you remember if they were popular here in the States or not? I did find one, a rare early one and my question or maybe comment is, why the heck isn't Peter singing on this song? I guess that is why he left the band. I didn't research it any further but this is a very nice acoustic cover of ironically Jimmy's old band The Yardbird's "For Your Love." See what you think and get well Peter Frampton. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTxPWB_kZvM&feature=related
  8. A little Soul Music for the Soul. Edit: And a little Rock and Roll; also for the Soul. Thirty Three Years Gone since we heard this Live....
  9. This new band I discovered literally minutes ago, thanks Jahfin. Great sound, little CSN vibe going on I think....?
  10. Why not try to answer all the questions if someone has the time and inclination to do so? As a Led-Head I've learned a lot about the band here from many....old timers and newbies alike. Who decides what is far-fetched anyway? I'm sure you didn't mean that in the condescending way it came across. I agree with you on this one Steve A. Jones. Welcome back.
  11. Happy Birthday Strider!! A little music to kick-start your special day. Enjoy and don't forget to make a Wish! Missy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM3huY948e8
  12. My favorite female Aussie singer.....Sia Furler of Zero 7. Love this downtempo, ambient, dream pop, etc music!
  13. From a dvd I own, Neil Young, Chicago, 1992. Sounds as great as when he sang it at Massey Hall in 1971. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR2JGJ7i5kg "Don't let it bring you down It's only castles burning, Find someone who's turning And you will come around....."
  14. A follow-up to my above post, I was able to find the video I was looking for on You/Tube. So, for anyone who gets Shadows and Light DVD, you will hear a wonderful performance of Joni singing Hejira, but this is what you're going to see..... On the other special Collector's Double DVD, you will hear and see Joni perform like below throughout the concert. This is a different song because Hejira hasn't ever been uploaded to Y/T from this collector's dvd. In the end, I own and love both dvds, but for those that wonder about the differences, thought this might help. As far as I know, there are no other official dvd's out there of Joni in concert. **Spoiler Alert: On the Collector dvd during the 1996 show, Joni is surprised and presented with a special award by none other than Graham Nash, one of the lucky ones in the audience. Missy PS. I was reminded watching this above video that Joni goes barefoot halfway through the show. She is just too cool.
  15. Jahfin, I missed your post above about Taylor Swift the first time around, so that makes us even! I have the book Girls Like Us, and it should make an interesting picture. The book covers from their youth to their peak and beyond for all 3 ladies, Mitchell, Simon, and King. I know nothing about Taylor Swift....so can't speak to what I think of her singing, but she sure looks pretty enough to play a young Joni. I wanted to give you the lowdown on the Joni Mitchell DVD's currently out there. Especially, after you listened to Free Man and mentioned possibly picking up Shadows and Light. I rate that dvd a C+ only. It has nothing to do with Joni's voice and this is the 1979 concert where Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, Lyle Mays and Don Alias are her supremely talented backing musicians..but and it's a big but for me. The DVD makes me crazy at times because the method they used to record this fantastic show is to intersplice videos of pointless stuff where you don't end up seeing Joni or the players much at all. They are only a very few videos (one being Free Man in Paris) where the producer decided not to insert these images. My favorite song of hers, Hejira, you don't ever see her playing/singing. What you see is this "movie" of Joni ice-skating to the song being played live on the DVD. It makes me crazy because I want to see the show, not fantasy. Here's the only example I could find on you/tube to give you an idea. Having said this, it's still a good pickup for 10 bucks on amazon just to hear the music live with Jaco imo. The other DVD below available on amazon for a little more (24.95) I would rate an A+. It is a special double Dvd with a PBS special on one dvd of Joni's life which was done well, a few outtakes but no full length music however. The 2nd DVD in the package is from her show in 1996 to a small audience who was invited to see her artwork on display (which they show briefly) and then hear Joni play with a different group of muscians than the 1979 Shadows and Light Band. This DVD has NO fantasy cut-away stuff in it to distract from seeing Joni play. She is a little older of course, but I think she puts on a fine show and with the PBS bio disc included too, a nice package. Sorry to go on so long, but you know I love my Joni!
  16. Reggie, a great performance of one of Neil Young's best songs ever! PS. When is the band coming to Florida for a show? Lots of Neil Young fans here.
  17. Count me in as Happy that the site is back up! The rare times it is down, it always seems to me like it is longer than it actually is ..... But then again, it may be a simple case of something I heard in a Joni song earlier today....... "Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got Till it's gone" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t79hUuE2vuI Oh, and have a great vacation ebk! missy
  18. Thanks so much for posting the above info Jahfin. I was getting ready to make a post about On the Beach being released this week, but you beat me to it! With a lot more info too. This was my second Neil Young record, after hearing Neil on Zuma in 1976. Up until then only knew the few AM hits, Heart of Gold, and Old Man, etc. But Zuma and the song Cortez changed all that. I got this after hearing it one time at a friends and thought it was great. Never thought of it as a downer album at all, more an interesting take on life with Neil's lyrical story-telling and his one of a kind voice. Anyway, great post above and here's the video of the song that I like the best and guessing many others do as well. Missy "And there ain't nothing like the friend, who can tell you you're just pissin' in the wind..." Classic.
  19. What this world needs a hell of a lot more of......A Lotta Love.
  20. I am very excited for the release of the CSNY '74 Reunion Tour box set coming out in 2013. What's the big deal you say? Well, there is a fantastic song imo written and sung by Neil Young on this tour (thank-you You Tube). I've been unable to find it on any of Neil's or CSNY's recorded output. The song, is Pushed it Over the End. It technically belongs on the CSNY thread here, but the song is such pure Neil to my ears, I felt it more appropriate on this thread. There used to be an excellent live video of the whole song in 360 sound, but that was pulled. However, this one in 240 audio will give you an idea of what to expect on next year's release. For Neil fans, please check out at 4:35 where live footage begins (albeit a bit blurry), and especially 6:28 where Neil just rocks the vocals. Nice ending too with Crosby giving his all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCHRDz8ysvk Partial lyrics/by Neil Young "I came back for more And found you waiting at the door And far inside your walls I called Did you, did you, did you Pushed it over the end? How much time did you spend? Pushed it over the end. How much love did you spend? Pushed it over the end ************************************** I will always be a Jimmy girl, but Neil Young is one d*mn cool cat! ....Missy
  21. Wow, has it really been 30 years? It seems like only yesterday. I remember playing this album on my direct drive Sony turntable through my giant Pioneer speakers....what glorious memories. That turntable is long gone, but got a new one for Xmas, and this is going to make me get off my duff and finally get it hooked up. To hear songs like this...Oh, Robert. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4CjpBg-l7Q&feature=related
  22. Happy Birthday Ann Wilson of Heart (6/19/51). Thanks for the great music and one of the best concerts I ever attended in 1981. What a voice.
  23. Americana is a success out of the gate! Showing at #4 on Billboards Top 200, and at #1 on their Top Rock albums chart. Also, after less than a weeks release the album/cd Americana is at #3 on Amazon in their Bestsellers in Music (Rock). On sale now at Amazon for $9.99. Rock on Neil and Crazy Horse.
  24. Maybe Jimmy Page just wants to stop and smell the roses. He's given a lot over his lifetime and geez if we get something more, great. If not, thank-you Jimmy Page for the memories and the music that lives on forever.
  25. Wolfman, that's a shame. I had no idea he had any serious health issues in the last few years. Do you know if he is still active and recording? I only have a greatest hits LP from late Seventies period. But after listening to Changes video above I am reminded that he has such a unique voice. I know saying he is one of a kind is cliche, but really who else sounds like him? I think he put out an EP of Let's Dance and I also have that. But I'm probably missing some more work that highlights his vocals. Got any suggestions of what you think his best albums are? Thanks for the info. Missy PS Is the Ziggy Stardust album, (can't recall correct title!)....is that something you would consider a must have ala DSOTM is to Pink Floyd?
