I’m honestly confused why people think this will be such a dud. The directors and production partners involved are legitimately excellent filmmakers.

It got lukewarm reviews at the premiere, has since yet to be picked up by a distributor, and marketing materials for the film have since been taken down. I think that’s enough of an indicator…

Well, first off there aren't that many shows to pick from:

    June 28th - Shepton Mallet

    July 19th - Berlin

    Aug 10th - Hampton

    Aug 15th - New Haven

    Aug 21st - Tulsa

    Aug 31st - Milwaukee

I assume most wouldn't consider Oakland, San Diego, Inglewood, Honolulu, Boston, and New York as summer shows. Shepton Mallet is considered by many to be an all time show, so that would be my recommendation. When all fails, there's March 1973.

There is also the Detroit show on August 28, but it’s very poor quality and incomplete; I’d certainly consider the September shows as part of the summer tour (the Fall Equinox wasn’t until after New York shows).

  3. The ending of Stairway sample predates anything from spindle's recording, and is a verified fake. Close comparison reveals that the instrumentals were actually taken from the 9/29/71 Osaka show. Not sure where the vocals are from but they are certainly overlaid to try and exaggerate authenticity.

Otherwise, the other samples are legit.

Why, is it an upgrade? I always thought it sounded pretty good as it was. That’s the 23rd, right?

Yes, and it’s because previous releases of Rock Carnival are horribly processed for most of the tape.

Too bad it’s being released on Tarantura which means they’ll just EQ the raw tape further…

  5. The Dogs of Doom is proud to present the last of four new digital transfers of 8mm film reels that were distributed through magazines such as Goldmine in the mid to late 1970's, continuing on with releasing a film shot 45 years ago today on the fifth night of Led Zeppelin's six night stint at the LA Forum on June 26, 1977.

This film is compiled from two reels - the first (entitled "Kashmir") transferred in 2K via Adam at Genesis Museum (covering the first part of the show) coming from the collection of Glyn, and the second (entitled "Achilles Last Stand") from a fresh 1080p transfer brought to you by Mark McFall, with the reel generously borrowed from the collection of Tony Halloway. The sync to the audience recordings was done by myself. I rendered everything in 1080p as a "lowest common denominator" of sorts.

This is the first of two 8mm sources known to exist from this night. As some people may know, these two reels contain a mix of footage from this date as well as the show on June 22. The only big thing to note is that I had to slow down the clip around 11:50 (8:36 in the YouTube upload) pretty drastically to match the music.

I hope you all enjoy, and that one day all 8mm films of Led Zeppelin can be handled with such love and care.

A download link to this footage with Kashmir included as well as the footage on June 22 can be found elsewhere if you know where to look ;)

Some interesting and spicey discussion took over the Royal Orleans forums, looks like there are some really big tensions between the collectors, of which most interesting is the last paragraph saying Odense 71, alternate source for Helsinki 70 as well as the full late show for Honolulu 70 are in circulation among the closest group of hoarders. If this is true (yet has to be confirmed though), we can expect some truly unique releases soon!

I did not intend to come back to the topic but felt provoked so I will add a few lines on this topic.

When in 2006 I joined the "hotel" (I deleted my profile because I thought that I had enough music for a while, I wanted to devote myself to family life), I met many people there with passion, among them some very important collectors with whom I quickly made friends which resulted in a wide exchange of various types of sources. This state of affairs lasted more or less until about 2010, when a lot of people representing the "I deserve" approach came to the forum. To this day, I remember the endless disputes and quarrels over how someone has the nerve not to publish a tape when it is in circulation. Already then, the warning light came on for me, because at least it was clear to me (and so it is so far) that when one person wants something, he should offer something to the other. I could not stand the constant whining and naive explaining that if the recording is allegedly owned by the band (in this case it is absolute nonsense, because such recordings are in no way legalized, so they are in a way devoid of any copyrights), why people those who have them are not obliged to share them with other users for free.

Somehow I swallowed this bitter pill, believing that there is still a group of people who adhere to the old and proven principles, which read "for what you receive, offer something in return." Unfortunately, it turned out from year to year that this practice, developed for many years by many people, who often invested their time and money in acquiring a given material), the recordings, which for many years belonged to the strict circle of collectors (fortunately, many of them still belong and do not seem to be to change it more), are now made public and thus lose their value.

Do you think someone who has really rare recordings will be willing to give them away in exchange for something that anyone can smoke? The answer to this question seems very obvious and it is NO.

In summary, if you really want to play in the first league, instead of complaining that someone pointed out a mistake or negatively commented on your uploads, you better change your approach, because your practice makes at least two people I know personally (and who are in the possession of previously unpublished materials), currently they do not want their sources to see the light of day (except for the so-called secret copies circulating among faithful collectors).

Finally, let me wish you good luck, because if, in your anger, you start mentioning the names and nicknames of people in public who perhaps do not want it, you are just an ordinary kid who does not deserve more attention.

BTW Odense 71 is already in circulation, as is the alternative source from Helsinki 1970, not to mention the full recording of the late Honolulu gig from 1970. If you had a bit more tact, I might be inclined to negotiate at least one of the above-mentioned sources and make it public for a wider audience after the exchange. Because of your selfish and childish behavior, I am now not even inclined to even think of such a thing.

    Good luck my friend!

Dude… Zepster, AA, Pawel, mystic.shiva, per_jonson, Arthur MacGregor, now “Freak”… you’re really collecting pseudonyms like Infinity Stones at this point. You’re way too easy to spot. Maybe you expected me to take your bait, but I think it’s important for the community to know what a clown you truly are.

When will Sam and Your Overlord bite the bullet and just IP ban your ass from these forums already? Haven’t we heard enough of your bootleg shilling and rants about people downloading legal gray area recordings for free?

  7. After a huge hiatus in our liberation series, we are excited to return to you all with some new 8mm footage from Led Zeppelin’s first performance in Landover on February 10, 1975. This is the second film source known to exist from this show and the first to contain more than just Heartbreaker.

The filmer snuck his Super 8 camera into Sky Suite #1 at the Capital Center. This gives us a rare full stage view of the 1975 experience. Originally sent to me with 14 minutes of film, finding that three of the four reels ran extremely fast expanded this footage out to nearly 23 minutes!

I decided to sync this one to the audience recordings as opposed to the soundboard since I think it’d fit the experience and vantage point a lot more (and the soundboard reveals much more than a few flaws). The transfer itself is a bit overexposed, but the film more than makes up for it for its comprehensive coverage of the show and lengthy clips.

Special thanks to Jimmy Nalley for filming and sharing his digital transfer of this footage!

  8. Both are pretty average shows for their respective tours, but 1969 no doubt.

4/27/77 has potential as being one of Plant's best shows for the year, but Jimmy is way too lackluster.

4/27/69 has a fantastic first set - one of the best ALAIHYs and HMMTs - but the second set drags a bit and Plant doesn't compare to previous shows on the tour.

Go for 4/26/69 and 4/28/77 instead.

It's possible... The original German magazine, Bravo who did this shoot captions one of the photos being the opening night of the German tour in Nuremberg (with a review of the show). Going from memory, I think the photographer shot Munich (JPJ wearing white long-sleeved shirt) and Nuremberg.

The photo to the right of that arrow has a caption mentioning Wien (Vienna). I think it’d also work with JPJ sitting down and Plant’s comments at the show mentioning him having stomach problems.

You’re right regarding JPJ’s white shirt at Munich but I’ve seen no other concert photos attributed as Nuremberg other than this set which I’m pretty sure is Vienna.

I think the bootlegger tacked the TY soundboard onto the Hollywood tape and is trolling us.

The “bootlegger” here is us (The Dogs of Doom) and no, we are not trolling. We’ve released the audience recording without the soundboard patch and you can compare for yourself to see that the organ solo and little nuances in the opening verses are identical. Why Hollywood TY was tacked onto the Orlando board is anyone’s guess.

  11. Here is some new footage from Led Zeppelin's performance in Cleveland on 1/24/1975 shot by Jerry Karbowniczek. This isn't a part of the liberation series since this footage has actually been sitting on YouTube for a year unnoticed and was brought to my attention by Sir_GH. This sync is a little rough... the transfer is far less than ideal but it's from a unique angle and I know it'll be an exciting thing to share here since there's been a newfound love for this gig by several people here.

If you know the original filmer - or if you are the original filmer - please try and get in contact with me so we can get a better transfer of your footage!
