  1. I remember when DW2 came out, I wasn't expecting it, and boom - new Jimmy Page music! Agree with you Flares, the eerie songs suited Page and his persona perfectly. And the slightly rock-ish songs "City Sirens", "Who's to Blame", really are better than just about anything the Firm did. As I read one reviewer somewhere writing about Mean Business "it is hard to imaging anyone having fun playing these songs".
  2. i remember buying their live album, i think it was "Exit Stage Left". I have to agree about Lee's vocals...I was like "what the hell is he trying to do"? In more recent albums, his vocals have smoothed out a nicely. As for the OP, it's a bit like comparing apples to oranges. Zep is who Zep is because of the time they came out, the bands around them, and just the whole environment. We may see a band hit it bigger than Zep (quite a few have sold more records than Zep or sold more tickets) but the question is simply too subjective to be answered accuratley, IMHO.
  3. I could never get into this album. I can see where Plant was going from here, but for Page, it just seemed like he was an extra musician or something. I can't seem to feel any of his input on it.
  4. DEF! If you haven't, you owe it to yourself. there were some amazing shows and Page was on fire. Coverdale was very good, I know he gets a bum rap in some corners, but he was very good and really trying to be his own man and not mimic Plant.
  5. Just found this on youtube. Apologies if it's been posted already. Pure Horse bliss!
  6. Wow, Tribal is freakin amazing! When I want something quiet with a lot of atmosphere and texture, I reach for Mark Knopfler. When I want something that just f**kin kicks you in the balls, I often reach for Beck. Gotta love the dude! Big Block still my fave of all time from him, though.
  7. Agreed. These new changes are awful, yet I will get used to them. For now, a closer look to the "New Content" we loved, is to go to Unread Content. Then just under RSS, you will see two little icons. Click the one on the right, it is a condensed view. Not perfect, but it is a little better IMHO.
  8. My God, did she have a beautiful voice. Her Spanish record is almost like being in heaven.
  9. Wow, it is hard to believe that TCV album came out, what 5 or 6 years ago??
  10. It really is an amazing riff, and the solo is pretty incredible as well! I know they played it at Knebworth and the power just wasn't there yet, sounded too hollow. In some of the P&P shows, the power is there.
  11. Found this: EVH on David Letterman, way back in the day. Instrumental version of Panama! http://www.guitarworld.com/forgotten-guitar-night-eddie-van-halen-rocked-late-night-video/25826
  12. I like their singer. "Friday, I'm in Love" is very good, love the lyrics.
  13. Cool, and fairly daring of Page to use it, as I think it had only been invented a few years before!
  14. To me the most interesting aspect of the whole XYZ stuff, was the timing. Bonzo had passed away mere MONTHS ago, and Page was back in the studio with other artists. Sort of the whole "if the horse dumps you, get up and get right back on" thing. Wish he had that sort of motivation today.
  15. I have a Motorola Droid Max, the wife has a Samsung Galaxy s5 and the kiddo has Iphone 5c. My favorite of all of them is the Samsung, hands down. Snappy, big scree, well done.
  16. ^^^ Thanks. Did Boyle usually fingerpick or was it just this song?
  17. I was I was going to say "She Sells Sanctuary" but realized that is The Cult. Great tune, wrong band.
  18. who is playing on Ship of Fools? That is some seriously sublime playing!
  19. I remember some publication at the time of ARMS said (paraphrasing from memory) "there was a hint of discord between Clapton who overcame a very public addiction to Cocaine, and Page about whom such a thing has never been said". I doubt if that was it, really. At ARMS they all appeared to be happy, Clapton serving as sort of the MC and introducer. It was good to just see Page and realize he was still capable of playing.
  20. It could also be that the invite is there, but Page simply doesn't have it in him to go do a set at Crossroads.
  21. I can't tell you how useful FB is in law enforcement. You tell us your kids names, where they go to school (pics of them in school jerseys or likes of their school). You tell us your pets, when you are on vacation, your birthdate, your spouse and all your friends. Some of you show us your car, your house, your latest great thing in your house, etc. You tell us your fave movies, songs, books, etc. Real easy to build a psychological profile with all this, and no subpoena needed, you give it willingly! extremely useful for law breaking people too. Great, I know where you live, and you're on vacation for two weeks....nice, thanks! i have two, both VERY fictional, that I use for research and general trolling activities. Frankly, I am stunned how much real personal info people put on FB.
  22. What is striking is that EVH is just ten years younger. I can't imagine Page playing with such abandon ten years ago. Of course, would EVH be playing like this if he had to go the solo route or form a new band? He's majorly blessed that he has his band, his brother, and his son all together for this. Oh yeah, and he has Roth, but he tries not to think too much about that...
  23. Good find. I remember picking up WACF at the record store, opening it up and finding this poster of Roth and thinking, what is this sh*t? Amazing they held it together for as long as they did!
