  1. At 45 I have kept my hair but now I keep it short, it is just too much of a hassle taking care of long hair. How Robert spends the time to manage it is beyond me, if my hair takes longer than two minutes post-shower I get it cut shorter.

Kudos to Robert though, the man obviously has more patience than I.

Oh, and regarding the infamous "bulge." I heard Mick Jagger and several other rock stars used to "enhance" their attributes with a vegetable or other faux cockmeat. Has any groupie ever come forward to confirm that the bulge is all natural Robert or was he placing a sedated squirrel and two golf balls in his knickers?

  2. I might have liked those pages on Facebook 'cough cough' . One is called "Robert Plant's Amazing Hair" and the other one is called "Robert Plant's Jeans Appreciation Society." There is also two others on Facebook called "Robert Plant's Bulge" and one called "Robert Plant's Cock", but I thought that might be a little tasteless for my family to see on there, so I didn't "like" those...LOL

Decorum is an admirable trait! Plus, FB is forever, you don't want the HR person for that choice job to be sitting across from you in 10 years saying, "I love your references and you are quite qualified, however, the link to Robert Plant's Cock kind of sealed your fate...Maybe McDonald's is hiring?"

  3. The hair: He rocked the mullet in 83'-85', especially his do for the Little by Little video...what the hell was he thinking? I have to give the nod to 70', particularly Bath when his hair was longer and more straight plus the mustache & van dyke, too cool!

That bulge, WTF??? It looks like his balls are screaming, "I give up, please, quit suffocating us!!!" Some of those pics his damn pants are so tight old Robert has camel toe! Ya gotta let the wee lads breathe for gods sake. And his poor willie...looked like a road-kill snake, he probably had to use a spatula to peel it off his leg.

Man I love the 70's, shit was awesome and hilarious all at the same time.

  4. You "feel sorry" for us because...we actually care about one another? I don't understand your concerns. I'd say your view of the 1970s is through rose-coloured glasses...I'd rather fall in love and play it safe than burn out and fade away, like so many from that generation did...not to mention all the other issues.

Your comments about Maureen seem...misguided? It seems that Robert had a wandering eye early on - he might have cheated with her sister in the late-60s. I'd hazard a guess that constantly being away from the family, and the loss of their son, is what damaged their relationship more than the infidelities.

You misunderstand me and I did not mean to offend you, just trying to put things into perspective. What I meant by feeling sorry for your generation is you take things way too seriously that's all. People cared about each other in the 70's you know, we just did not think simply because you went out with someone once or twice you were automatically a "committed couple" which seems to be the norm these days. I do not believe in unbridled wanton sexual behaviour, thats not my thing, but I do believe in the option for those who do. Also, I see many more burning out these days than the 70's, not to mention the level of curiosity of the youth is non-existent outside of the small, provincial circle. When I was 10 I could have a deep, detailed conversation with an adult about various topics, these days if it ain't about the Kardashian's or some other nobody dope, they know nothing and communicate for shit.

Regarding Maureen, you just made my point even more relevent. Her sticking with Robert KNOWING what he was from day one. That's on her just as much as it is on him. Sorry, no sympathy for her or any other rock wife.

  5. The 70's were a magical time in America. There was a freedom of youth that had never occurred and would never occur again. Most teens in the 70's were seekers of some sort, influenced by the hope of the 60's yet young enough to ignore Manson, Altamont, Vietnam, etc and consider them a fluke. Though I was just a kid in the 70's I had cousins 10 and 20 years my senior as guides to this amazing place and I have very vivid memories indeed. I remember being pretty much free from five years old on, playing with my friends and not worrying if some asshole was going to rape and kill us because we were smart enough to travel in groups and run from strangers. Adults were our friends and looked after us and we respected and listened to them. It was unusual in the fact that we all hoped for something better, had such open minds and gathered influences from many a diverse source the world became an open book. Of course some people got hurt, but the majority had fun and learned a thing or two along the way. Sex was fun and light hearted, compared to a return to the 50's moral code of the late 80's & 90's people just did not take things so damn seriously.

I wish I could explain in vivid detail what it was like in the 70's, I guess an accurate description would be the old Coke commercials where everyone is singing in a summer field, or the old RC commercials. People cared and loved but also knew when to let go and walk away, these days a boy dates a girl once and they are "together???" It's no longer fun, just one big pain in the ass. I really feel sorry for the generations post-70's because all they know is fear and repercussion.

I cannot nor will I judge these people, they were living in a unique time and place where even suburban married couples were having "key parties" on the weekends. Everyone knew what was happening on the road and the wives and girlfriends either accepted it or moved on. Think about it. Pictures of rock stars and groupies were published in the 60's, this was no secret. They were all adults who chose the life they led, no one forced them. So, I have no sympathy for the wives in any way and I am sure most do not have any regrets. As Jimmy once said, "Better to live a single day as a lion, than a 1,000 years as a lamb." Somehow I believe Maureen is quite content that she was married to Robert Plant for 14 odd years instead of an unknown civil servant who came home every night and gave her a tumble once a week for the crown.

Thank god for the bands, the music the groupies, and the combination of innocence, camaraderie, and discovery which we will never again in our lifetimes see. It was a golden time.

  6. ^ Agree! The whole mix itself is what made it incredible. I believe this was truly the first time it became more than simply the sum of it's parts. The guitar tone was the best I ever heard for this song hands down, and the keys and bass pedals were mixed perfectly. Jason played it straight and relentless, Roberts vocals were his best since 77' if not better, he really pulled it out for this song. IMO this version is the perfect storm, everything works in synch, no one musician stands out, they become one homogenous force.

  7. I have played guitar since I was 14 years old. I have played in bands and I have played live. That being said I have never played a guitar at the age of 63 in front of 20,000 people with a broken pinky. I will be honest, if I broke or even sprained ANY finger on ANY hand I would not play live (or at all) until fully healed. Also, it was said before and after the show that Jimmy was going to play short solos and keep it as close to the studio versions as possible in an effort to play the number of songs they played. Jimmy is also on record as having insane anxiety pre-show, that was one of the reasons he turned to alcohol in 75' and heroin after Roberts car crash in Rhodes. I love Jimmy but he suffers from low self esteem IMO, he is very sensitive by nature and as a result the substances helped him cope with the insecurities. Well, he is sober now and has to face the music as an open nerve, no walls, no barriers. The fact that he played so damn good right out of the gate impressed the hell out of me, especially with so much against him (broken finger).

After having gone thru all that let me break it down for all the "bitches" out there: Do you think you will fuck as good at 63 as you did at 23??? No? Well no shit. Playing a guitar is not that different in an abstract sort of way. After all, if 63 yr olds could fuck like a 23 year old, there would be hordes of 19 year old college girls invading Century Village in Ft Lauderdale. Last I heard from my sister in law, that was not happening.

Thank you Jimmy, your O2 performance was incredible. Let's see how good Mr Ed (Guitar god) can play at 63...I bet he will be lucky if he can pick the damn thing up in his golden years much less perform at the level Mr. Page did...WITH A FUCKING BROKEN FINGER!!!

  8. Saw The Crowes in 1990 supporting Aerosmith in Chicago. The Crowes BLEW Aerosmith off the stage!!! The Crowes were on fire, Aerosmith was as flaccid as a 100 yr old's johnson. I always thought Jimmy's playing 1998 - 2001 were his best years post 1975, with 85' and 92' a close second. I read Plant really wanted to do In the Light on both the 75' and 77' tours but JPJ could not reproduce the synth sound live so it was nixed. TBH I would have preferred the original harpsichord intro for the song with the bowed acoustic vs. the synth...that would have been awesome!!! I love harpsichord!!!

  9. Just saw Zeitgeist: Moving Forward today and as a result I have reached a whole new level of depression. The movie really breaks down our current world condition and societal trends in a manner which makes one shit themselves. I suggest everyone see this incredible movie, it will wake the dreamer from the dream and force to see reality. Unfortunately not a pretty picture, but vehicles for positive change seldom are.

  10. Recently I happened across the DVD of the A.R.M.S. concert from 1983 at the Royal Albert Hall. That is the roughest I've ever seen Page, or anyone else for that matter who didn't fall off the stage. I'm not trying to be cruel or unkind, but wonder if this performance is indicative of his work in the 80s. I saw Led Zep back in '70 and '71 live, then not again until the O2 concert, so I was really surprised to see him in that shape.

Not in any way was that indicative of his 80's work, I saw him in 85' with The Firm and 88' solo and he was excellent both times, clean and sober in fine form.

From what I have heard Jimmy was wasted off his tuckus at the 83' RAH show for ARMS and thus played like shit, however for the American gig's he was playing very well and acted healthy and alert. Fine performances all around.

  11. ^^ Yeah, what's with that??? I figure if they have it on DVD it should be available for streaming, but many are not...why? Licensing???

I am looking forward to seeing Moonrise Kingdom, looks whimsical and optimistic, right on the day-side of a half remembered dream.

Now for a completely different genre, I really want to see Killer Joe...also not available to stream

  12. I think Bob Dylan is an amazing songwriter, he can really weave a tapestry of thought with music. That being said I am no fan of his voice, nor of his personality. He comes across as a self-importaint creep most of the time I have seen him in interviews and to be honest, if I ever saw him walking down the street or out in public he would be the last guy I would want to talk to. I just don't like people who come across like their shit don't stink, regardless of their talent. So, musically he is a genius with few peers, personally he seems to be an asshole.

  13. I read the book too. The Hoffman film seemed to sympathize for the killers and I couldn't figure that out, unless Capote really did feel that way towards them.

Capote actually fell in love with the killer Perry Smith and sympathized with his horrible childhood. Go figure.

  14. To me the greatest difference to old blues vs. modern blues guitarists is the raw feeling from the old guard. The new guard is to technical, too obsessed with precision and technique whereas the old guard literally fucked the guitar. They did not care if they missed a note, nor did they care if in the process of improvising the song fell apart, they had so much passion and ferocity that they painted a canvas of music akin to a great painter. The new guys are just photographers IMO. Give me Gatemouth or give me death!!!
