  1. Anyway, the Les Paul over the Dano any day! I have played many a Danelectro and I just don't like them. They are a good blues / slide guitar but other than that they go out of tune very quickly and are cheap guitars. When he uses the LP on Kashmir it just dominates ever so slightly over the keys and make the song that much more epic. A good example of how BAD the Dano sounded "unaided" so to speak is on the Atlantic 40th Anniversary gig they played. Jimmy uses the Dano and for some strange reason the keyboards on the live feed were missing, it was just drums and guitar and the tone of the Dano on that song just could not cut it. Though I will admit even a LP on this song without the keys would sound wrong. Give me the LP or give me death!!!
  2. Lady Gaga is fantastic. She shakes up the current dribble of pre-packaged, consumer generated mediocrity, and infuses some serious funk and shock. Maybe some of the "corporate" crap artist out there will take notice and jack up their game a bit. Sure, maybe she is too over the top for many, but ya gotta break some eggs if ya wanna make an omelet.
  3. JPJ did indeed sing response to Robert's call in the live 77' BOE. Jimmy also sings backup on Tangerine, studio and live.
  4. The bookstore sold hamburgers too??? Impressive, that's what I call diversifying. I pray they never sold gnostic mass biscuits...nasty.
  5. Thank you, was not sure if it was the black beauty or another guitar.
  6. Gee, thanks for clearing that up in such a kind and concise manner. Good show mate!
  7. The black beauty is a bit of a mystery. I read that during the 75' tour while in Vancouver a teenage fan presented Jimmy with a vintage black beauty. Jimmy supposedly checked the serial number but found it had been removed. Upon inspection of the guitar Jimy was convinced this was his stolen black beauty which was stolen from the Vancouver airport in 1970. Supposedly he quickly and quiety had it sipped back to England, however the teenagers high school music teacher claimed it was his stolen guitar and he wanted it back. There is nothing else after that so my question is did Jimmy ship the guitar back to England or did he give it back to the music teacher? Also, how could the music teacher prove it was his if the serial number was missing?
  8. That old guy was hardcore!!! Good for him and yes, those punks got exactly what they deserved.
  9. And who would have thought they accepted the Sex Pistols and God Save the Queen in the UK...who knows, maybe if we get a few tolerant people in the states the Dixie Chicks will become acceptable again as well
  10. I do not wish to start a controversy so I will be brief and explain personal experience. Before I went to school for psychology I went into the Marine Corps directly after HS (17 yrs old) to obtain the GI bill to help fund my future education. While in the Corps I experienced actual combat twice, once in Panama (2nd Marine Div, 6th reg) and the second time during Desert Storm (1st Platoon RTT). I will tell you this, when someone is shooting at you, experience or not unless you are insane, you are scared shitless. Even trained your natural instinct is to find cover fast before anything else. Believe me, it is real easy to train for combat or an actual shooting scenario, it is quite another to be involved in one. In this situation the guy had full body armor and a ballistic helmet, he was almost impervious to weapons fire. In the off chance someone was armed the body count would have most likely been greater. The only exception to this beside pure divine intervention would be a situation where a trained sniper armed with night vision and having a clear shot, outside of both those scenarios, this outcome was inevitable once the shooter arrived.
  11. I have been to many, many concerts in my time and I must say, the Billy Idol concert at Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, 2003 or 04' I believe was amazing. Billy is a real showman and a real gentleman. While signing Sweet Sixteen he was signing autographs for all the ladies, giving them hugs and kisses. No matter what you think of his music (which I like), the guy is the real deal. Go Billy!!!
  12. I loved this album when it came out and still do, just brilliant!!!
  13. I have to say I agree with Steve on this one. I am all for full disclosure and reporting government malfeasance, however when the reporting itself may be the cause of loss of life that is where I draw the line. If he was simply exposing the duplicity of the US government or even treasonous behavior on the part of administration members, that's fine. However, just like when Karl Rove helped expose Valerie Plame as a CIA field asset, this is no different. In a perfect world I would like to see this guy and Karl Rove on trial together. Alas, this will never happen, at least not to Rove.
  14. This is what happens when the boys in the bathhouse get their hands on some instruments. Jumping the shark...I would have to say the damn shark was gang raped by these nancy boys!!!
  15. Well, that's opinions for ya. Either way, his tone still sucked.
  16. No, unfortunately did not go to the Tucson show, had to work. But wow...Bandersnatch, I used to go there every Tuesday (I think???) for the all you can eat spaghetti lunch for $4. Do you remember the elderly waitress that had been there for years? A real sweetheart she was and I believe was the owners mother. Bt 1992 she was beginning to lose a bit of her memory and once she cleared our plates she would say, oh you are such nice boys, be good and see you next week. This would be great if it were not for the fact that she forgot to give us the check every time. She thought we already paid!!! We never took advantage of her so the three of us would always leave $25 for a $15 meal. Who knows, maybe she was smarter than she looked and once we left she picked up the cash and said to the waitstaff, "works every time."
  17. Hey Major, don't fret. You guys rule with the whole fish & chips not to mention the parlamentary system, Shakespeare, Dr. Dee, Newton, fig newtons, football, and of course, Helen Mirren!!! Now if your country could just find a few dentists, the empire would be complete
  18. Highly doubt it, I think the list is BS. First, you really think they would play the Sex Pistols God Save the Queen? The song was banned in England by both the BBC and IBA for years. Second, who will perform the Beatles song live, two are deceased.
  19. Just goes to prove, muslim, christian, different name, same intolerance. And BTW, if the christians had the same power and influence the muslims have in their respective countries, the bonfires of the "heretics" would light up the night skies for decades.
  20. Go figure? Money causing a rift among musicians??? No way! FYI, what little respect I had for BS is now lost. Bill Ward is an amazing drummer and to treat him as a contract musician is incredulous. Really? After millions of dollars can't you just agree to split the cash four ways? Is that so hard? If the three other members of the band believe Ward cannot cut it they could easily place a clause of non-performance in the contract. Argghhhh!!! Than again, what the hell do I know. I have not seen the contract, only going by speculation. Maybe Ward is insane, bat-shit playing with poo nutso and the other three are justified. Who knows??? I don't know. Well, that's rock and roll for ya.
  21. I had a Hitatchi system from 1977 until 1984 which had a recordable 8 track. I won it from WLUP (The Loop) Chicago...I was caller #9
  22. I can't say anything regarding general maintenance for a 15th century estate as I am sure it is a whopper, especially with the English climate. Heating costs though are another matter, a few hundred pounds a month is what we pay in Phoenix, AZ for a typical electric A/C bill in the summer. I have a friend who owns a 8,000 sq ft home and before he put the solar panels on the roof his cooling expense per month was over $1,300!!! Thank god for solar!
  23. Saw them in 1984 and one of the worst concerts I ever saw. EVH was either drunk, stoned, or both because for someone who is so proud of his technical prowess on the guitar he made Jimmy's Mesa 1977 look like Bonamassa. I know everyone has off days and I still enjoyed myself but it just pisses me off when EVH mentions how sloppy Hendrix was compared to him. EVH is just an arrogant prick who plays variations on the same groundbreaking solo in just about every song. The lyrics to Tattoo are laughable and just plain stupid. Don't get me wrong, VHI is a classic but anything after Fair Warning is fair at best. Get it..."fair" at best. Ok, bad joke.
