Joerg replied to The Pagemeister's topic in Other Bands / Music
Glenn is associated with a lot of bands. Some you wouldn't expect: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dGj9h8ggCc -
With or without more sake and beer.. What's the reason for the totally different acceptance of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin in the States and Germany? Not enough blues but too much Bach and Beethoven?

Danke, dass du in dieser ruhigeren Ecke des Forums weitermachst :-) -
After another beer I would guess that in Germany more people can name two Purple songs than two Zeppelin songs, because Child in Time and Smoke On The Water together are more popular than Stairway and Whole Lotta Love ;-) And do you remember the Amusement Park scene in Spinal Tap? Regarding the chart success of the solo projects today in Germany Blackmore's Night are the puppet show and Robert Plant is Spinal Tap ;-)

Here in Germany Deep Purple had 7 No. 1 albums and Led Zeppelin 2. So they are indeed in different leagues. Deep Purple in one with the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin in one with Black Sabbath and Supertramp ;-)

DEEP PURPLE CONFIRM NEW STUDIO ALBUM IN APRIL
Joerg replied to DavidZoso's topic in Other Bands / Music
They delivered better than expected. More progressive and better produced than the last albums. You can hear that Don Airey finally arrived in the band and that the album is dedicated to Jon Lord. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MXxh0TByh4 -

Ritchie Blackmore, also back in 1975 (New Musical Express 1975-08-02): "I either listen to Bach or Hard Rock done by a very good band. Not too many good hard rock bands around.... Zeppelin sometimes pull out something good." -

Deep Purple were Billboard's Top Album Artist of the Year in 1973. I guess that the real big bands were on hiatus that year too ;-) (the attached ad is from early 1974)
