  1. All these camera crews who filmed Zeppelin were just really so bad.   Every filmed show was done rather poorly.

I’ll bet the main problem is the people hired probably didn’t really go to concerts and know what happens or how to present a band onstage.

I was watching 3 concerts by a midsized band this past weekend shot in Finland.  Nice slow or medium zooms and/or pans, one static “savior” shot of the full frame of the stage so you always have a good shot to rely on and a most simple approach.

Finally: how about shoot the full show, and don’t stop your camera over and over (and I don’t mean to switch the film magazines).

What a loss…though I’ll bet there is a ton of MSG 1973 films but the band just doesn’t want to do anything with the footage.

Really? I mean Reels and Tapes "Found".

Considering this man makes his living on the back of his Fathers' band, you would have thought that he would have done something about it before now?. John has been dead 43 years, so one would assume that all his belongings would have been catalogued and/or viewed or listened too? It's taken all this time (and with the decomposing of such rare and interesting material) to find the stuff and do something about it?  He also never told Jimmy about it, especially as there is a documentary about the band and this would have been a very welcome addition?

You’re not wrong.   Seems this stuff would have been found in 1981…

Jason Bonham has discussed in a new podcast interview finding unmarked reel-to-reel tapes in his father John Bonham's belongings and recalled how Led Zeppelin's 2007 reunion came about.

Speaking to They Vinyl Guide podcast, Bonham said he hasn't yet played any of the unmarked tapes which be unreleased studio mixes of Led Zeppelin songs.

"Believe it or not, Dad didn't like to play at all at home," Bonham told podcast host Nate Goyer. "He has no recording equipment. We've got his old Revox two track and that was literally just to be able to play mixes when he came back from the studio."

"I found a box of tapes, reel to reels, at home last time I was there," Bonham said. "But I need to get the machine up and running and hook it up, which...I will save that for an episode for YouTube, like 'Let's get this thing up and running. Let's find out if we've got anything that hasn't even been released yet.' Because they're all unmarked, that's the best of it. Or they just deteriorated."

"They might jus...you put them in the machine and it just erases them the moment you press start. I think they has to do that when they were doing the Knebworth mixing. They has to bake the... they only had the U-matic tapes and they had to bake the tapes to preserve what was on there. Imagine all the multitracks they've got, from the one-inch to the two-inch, sitting in Jimmy's facility or whatever."

I wonder if these reels are actually the Akai video reels from Japan 1971 which Bonham can be seen using at the airport in Tokyo?   Jason seems to mention them with baking the Knebworth videos.

Makes sense why they haven’t ever been transferred if they are video rather than audio.

Thanks, yet again, for all the stuff you've dug up and shared with the community. And a couple of things struck me after seeing these films. One is just how animated Jimmy was on stage. The other was just how fucking great it must have been to see them live in '77. I know we all compare shows from the '70's and often think that musically they were at their best earlier in the decade, but looking at these clips illustrates just how captivating the band was on stage in '77 and how exciting it must have been to be there in the arena to witness them performing in person.

The end of Over The Hills sums up your thoughts exactly…as does the entire 6/14 film

  5. Whoa!   This is awesome!!

It’s great all these new recordings and films are coming out. You have to watch out for some of the collectors who get their hands on these things.  They hide them away for selfish reasons and keep the world from hearing them even tho the original tapers want them to be heard and seen!

    So many thanks!

  6. This tour is one of my favorites.   We’re very lucky to have some great audio recordings of these shows.   And some great films.   Tho I wish we had some more great footage.

The picture shot from behind the stage at Melbourne with the rain storm looming overhead is one of the best pictures ever take of the band.

  7. From what I have seen most every person fortunate to have seen the band and actually recorded, filmed or took photos have always wanted their treasures to be heard or seen.   In 99.9% of the cases it’s the guy who finds then who doesn’t share and making the hobby toxic

I think the overall best version is the final one from the Spring '70 US tour, 4/17/70 in Memphis Tennessee. If I recall correctly, it's the longest version of the song sitting at around 30ish minutes. The medley is explosive despite the band having tons of trouble with the crowd and the police threatening to arrest Peter Grant. a Raunchy, wild show to the very end.

Many great ones in 1970!   Memphis awesome and so many others:

    1/9/70 RAH

    2/28/70 Copenhagen

    3/29/70 Houston

    To name a few
