i dont see the clash ever selling out, although i am not keen on punk rock history. i heard a tom waits interview on npr the other day and he talked about taking apart his favorite music to find inspiration and that it was his curiousity of music that kept him going with interest...and not thinking he thought he mastered anything or thought he knew what it was about.
i remember buying the green day record after hearing so much about it, bought it at bleeker bobs in the village nyc and the punk rock girl at the cashier told me it was a great record. the last thing i saw in the palladium tv channel w greenday . all these years later,was them doing a huge festival show and how it had to be an event to compensate the loss of a small venue vibe...so thats where an artist can either live or die really....because its too big in a way. how does a band or artist balance that...i do not know.
but it makes me wonder how the clash would be handling it all today, because they could be as big as u2 is now as a touring band.
The Clash would never be here for a few reasons 1)Joe Strummer was born with a heart defect that could kill him any minute, its lucky he even got to 50.
2)Topper was a junkie and Joe hated that. 3)Joe and Mick 4)Bernie ''Cuntface'' Rhoads

How about Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to Be Square," a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Hell fucking yes I used to be obsessed with Jaws when I was like 5 years old and I watched it EVERYDAY on VHS Then saw the VHS for Jaws 2,3 and 4 and fainted at the thought of 3 more Jaws to indulge myself in.
Anyways I got the dvd about 4 years ago and didn't really watch it and lost it BUT I'VE FOUND IT Its amazing theres not a single fault in it.

This is obviously bullshit.
If he spliced them with 10 FUCKING REELS He would have no bothers overdubbing it.
I prefer to think of it as a loose crazy solo not a sloppy(<This word bores me)one.
BTW I'm talking about the first half the second part is clearly attached on there as everything stops for half a second then the chords kick in following another solo.

I love the dub mixes on there I LOVE IT ALL.
BTW has anybody listened to Cut The Crap in full?I listened to some tracks and fell like putting my fist through the laptops screen.

Combat rock wasn't a sell out.
The Clash were so experimental they tried everything Just because Rock The Casbah was a minor hit in the early 80's doesn't indicate selling.

Every album was great besides the one that must not have its name mentioned.

Its a required taste however,Pat Bateman likes to describe everything a persons wearing,if he likes it and whatnot.
The movie did 2 things better than the book.The lines ''I have a slightly better haircut'' and ''Oh my god,It even has a watermark'' are only in the oul' film.
