Sometimes I think I hate Pinterest. Now that everyone's sharing photos using it or Instagram or other such sites, photos are *everywhere* and generally without any info about when/where or a photo credit. Frustrating. So I am here to ask about this photo (on Pinterest!) - the when/where and photo credit, but also the what: Namely, what is Jimmy Page doing with his left (fret) hand? I don't generally watch videos (I just listen to the music!) so I wouldn't see if Mr. Page does that a lot or not, though I haven't see that left hand position in other photos when he's doing bow work. FYI, that is not Jimmy Page in that particular photo. It is Jimmy Sakurai. Not that it makes any difference with respect to what you were saying.

Thank you for your excellent thoughts. Yes, the art = the artist, which is exactly what Jimmy Page has been saying over the years: Listen to his music and you are listening to the man. *However* note that unlike Dali or other artists who create works that are solely products of their own inner workings, almost all of Jimmy Page's music is a *collaborative* effort, by his own choice. The inner musical vision of Jimmy Page seems to be that of a symphonic composer, not a solo composer, as fabulous as his solos and riffs are. Thus all of the music of Jimmy Page includes aspects of all the member musicians of a band. The formative influences of Jimmy Page, is necessarily influenced by the group input. Or, to use your metaphor (or is it simile, I never remember the difference), if a person really into cars and wants to know the nuances of the engine, that person should understand that the engine is made of many parts and that isolating and studying one part isn't going to really tell you all that much of what you need to know about the engine itself.

I confess, I've gotten bad at checking the jp.com website every day because of so much repetition. So as I mentioned before, I didn't see the photo of JP with a woman or a link to anything. BUT if it's just a link to a video of her reading a poem, how is that different from any other endorsement JP's given over the years. True, they're mostly bands, but why not a poet or any other artist? Did it say on the JP website that the woman was a girlfriend, or just that she was a poet? As to the gossipy stuff: Some people just get carried away with the person because everyone else is carried away with the person. I agree, I don't know why anyone would be interested if they didn't love the music. But I've never understood what a musician's sex life, drug use, clothing choices or anything else had to do with the music - as long as the music is good, the rest is just not very interesting to me because it gets in the way of my enjoying the music. I guess I'm just weird that way.

Jimmy Page has said quite a few times that everything that needs to be known about him can be learned through his music. He has made it quite clear that his private life is separate from and off-limits to the public. Sometimes I wonder if some of the folks who claim to be such fans of his even listen to his music. Meanwhile...

Not to be overly mean-spirited, but the man has certainly reinvented himself, hasn't he? And I'm with you. I still don't trust him.

To be talking about the Marquis de Sade when that young doesn't mean that much. The early decades of a life are when most people do their sexual exploring. There has always been a big deal made of the things Jimmy Page and the others said when they were still pretty much kids, but they've moved on. That's just normal. Besides, that was the sixties - the sexual revolution. It was a time of pushing back the limits of societal expectations. If you weren't talking about such things as the Marquis de Sade, the Story of O, Lolita (all of which came before the sixties, mind you) or going to see the Mitchell Brothers' new "art" porn, you weren't cool. If you weren't actually *trying* those things, you weren't cool, either. Pushing the limits was what that time was about for many of us, and the music, literature and other arts reflect it. Jimmy and the boys were doing on a big scale what was going on all over the world then. People like to talk about him as if he was exceptionally naughty, but what he was doing was actually mild compared to others back then who weren't in the media spotlight. There are plenty of grandmas and grandpas walking around you every day who have hairy stories they could tell that makes Jimmy Page's (published) exploits look mild.

If I'm perfectly honest with myself, he wasn't ever my type of guy in terms of appearance/body build, so I probably wouldn't have taken a second look if it wasn't for Jimmy Page's music. But that's what makes the world go around - different preferences!

I had to look up "ephebe"! At first I was put off by the definition, "(in ancient Greece) a young man of 18–20 years undergoing military training". But then I read on and saw "also : a young man : youth". However, don't you think the Beatles already went there? And moved on? There were so many unique, fashionable musicians then - Bowie, of course, jumps to mind as one who knew how to use clothes to make an elegant and unique statement. Still does.

I think it's the other way around. I think that Mr. Page's extraordinary musical talent has enhanced his looks, added a "glamour", if you will. If he was a mediocre musician I'm guessing no one would notice his appearance at all.

The photo was I believe from 1967, a promo for the Yardbirds' Train Kept A Rollin' The photo was from a park in England but I don't seem to have any info about where readily at hand. Sorry.

Question: How do I upload photos from my computer directly to here, or is that even possible? Can you only post photos from the web here? There is something called "My Media" but I don't seem to be able to figure out how to work it. I'm sure there are instructions somewhere. But... read the instructions? Really? Do I have to?
