  1. Yeah i think these run of songs on the dvd are just as enjoyable to listen to as the early material on the dvd. That being said, i rarely watch the dvds anymore, the song remains the same, lz dvd, celebration day, unledded page and plant. So hopefully in the future there are live shows released on a site or format so people with mobile lives can listen to audio during the day and wherever they are. In regards to one song...i think, in the evening was a important song at knebworth and tour over europe. I guess for them it was an important song at that time, representing rebirth, reinvention and survival. Also, i got to hear robert plant sing, in the evening on his 1988 tour and it was a highlight and page and plant play it in 1995 and it sounded so great with the orchestra. They were able to slow it down and illustrate what a great riff that is...like the who did, with 5:15. In the evening was a very memorable song from page and plant in 95 and i am surprised they didnt play it in 2007 w the great jpj synth sound...or do a heavy version with jpj on bass.
  2. They had the raw power on the first three songs, trampled underfoot and in the evening. All they needed to do was retire several songs and add several more old songs and then they could have "cut the waffle".
  3. Thank you for posting this zephead315 It was cool to compare this 72 bron yr stomp with the 77s Very interesting hearing a young, what is and what should never be...and maybe why page and plant reflected on this and ramble on in the 90s and as time went on, playing ramble on in 2007 With dazed and confused, a good improv section and i loved hearing, gd's turn on your lovelight, as mentioned above...also i think eddie van halen found a song in that jam. Whole lotta improv and cover songs......just amazing!!!!!!! Nice to hear a version of rock and roll floating along and easy sounding
  4. A couple months ago i heard a bunch of zz top and i cant stop appreciating this band recently. In the 80s i bought a few zz top records on vinyl, but somewhere between compact discs, grunge and jam bands in the 90s, totally forgot about them. Sadly. After years of college radio and appreciating the singer songwriters and occasional bands...i have not bought any new music in a long time. So to reappreciate this band means alot to me and i am thankful they are still alive and playing. The sound they have...to step back into it, forgive my basic description...but smooth guitar playing like jj cale and hammering rhythm bass and drums like early beatles or the ramones or motorhead, variations on a theme. There is alot of space in that area and can make for some endless music. Plus its so cool to hear a band with an absolute identifiable sound...with a different songs within that framework. I find that interesting and intriguing.
  5. This was not what i was expecting, at all. I have already heard robert plant promoting his own music in interviews for awhile...and he is a master at selling his solo records in interviews. He actually presents his solo records in his poetic, carnival barker style, that they are better than zeppelin, "with the flags and the fires and the flames" and such descriptives for years now...and "happy" ofcourse like the band of joy.
  6. I have never heard of this song, but i ended up listening to roger daltreys version of, as long as i have you, and was amazed even more with what led zeppelin did with that song. They processed it through a machine or something and completely made it this huge powerful epic...that reflected the early vision of the band..,the stuff page and plant talked about... I listen to the garnett mims version and i hear an influence to gnarls barkley, crazy in vibe and style.
  7. "A standard led zeppelin rollercoaster ride" is a good description for alot of the1980 tour in general. Always my 2cents is the setlist should have been changed up..
  8. Recently listened to the show and enjoyed good times bad times and ramble on the most...there was something about the uncertainty and yet adventurous spirit of those first 2 songs that kind of reflect the whole show in a way...
  9. I agree, this video was an artistic acheivement back in the video days. It illustrated the song nicely and fm rock radio had turned to playing travelling riverside blues alot in the mid to later 80s...so again, the timing was perfect for led zeppelin marketing.
  10. Worst display ever......almost apocolyptic looking to me It is anti led zeppelin imo
  11. Yeah i agree, the keyboard, vocal and band sound was so great that night with kashmir...so that ya can imagine how good anything else would sound. Kinda torturous actually
  12. In regards to Plant and Jpj , it would have been cool to hear in the evening or carouselambra.
  13. On tour over europe setlist, jpj talks to jimmy. Jpj: jimmy the band would like to discuss the setlist regarding a couple of the old songs like, stairway to heaven and white summer possibly being changed out of the setlist. Jimmy: no. Jpj: ok
  14. I think it works well without a vocalist, so one vote for playing without a singer. As mentioned above, i also could see you guys touring and a live show with volume being a great thing. Still the videos are a very cool illustration, one gets to see the mechanics of the songs and again its interesting without singing.
  15. I must say, i have not watched that video in many years and that sound improvement is great. I much prefer listening to todays produced live shows from fans over the official live releases. I totally think that there should be some section on this site or another site, where people can share their sound production of live shows.
  16. There are water based paints with acrylic paint in them, that basically have the durability of old fashioned oil base paints. This is blowing my mind that its a sticker. They have to explain the benefits...maybe its more durable and has better color retention?
  17. To me, cutting the waffle was the opening of the 80 shows, the first few songs. But after that, between the epic songs and the new songs there is a giant void. For example, if they only edited stairway and sibly, that would leave space for 3 general zep songs they recently were playing 79...over the hills, misty mountain, celebration day. So that still leaves the rain song, achilles last stand and kashmir in the set. Three epic songs...and they were wanting to play the rain song, you can hear it. Also, just for some added change up songs to the othafa mmh celebration....., like levee, the rover, night flight, or anything else.
  18. White summer hits an all time low on this tour. Yet its revitalized properly in 1988, outrider tour Stairway was a song the singer did not want to sing anymore...so why play it? Honestly they came nowhere near cutting the waffle with the setlist....yet they played like they were cutting the waffle.
  19. I have to say, on hearing here that the cheaper dragon telecaster's artwork is a sticker, decal material is a complete bummer. Hey i do not even play guitar and do not have a man cave to display such a visually cool guitar. But if someone wants to hang that guitar on the wall of an entertainment room and its got lighting...with a decal look, i am imagining it looking very cheesy. As per talking about skateboards in the lz vans thread....jeez there have been mass produced skateboards with silkscreened artwork with basic quality paint for decades now. Seriously, i hope they get out ahead of this and say how the sticker, decal on the cheaper model is a durable product, or maybe its got thickness to it, to resemble the quality and visual effect of paint.
  20. So great.....i want to bust out my mark gonzalez skateboard, with independant trucks, bullet wheels and german bearings and skateboard a freshly paved parking lot or tennis court. Although i never bought a pair of vans
  21. I think this would be a great idea for a 50th release and being that the vaults for the companion disks are already open. The led zeppelin version of swan song, should play a part in the band's history....just as a full 1977 show should be released. This version of swan song has the vibe of a very unique slow down...that great muscians can do, to sort of slow down time. It just creates a vibe of movie credits rolling..,at the end of a movie. Yet its zeppelin and moving forward still...a very special song. With midnight moonlight, its a different version of the song. First of all...paul rodgers soothing voice uplifted us all back with the firm. I cant imagine how healing it was for jimmy page to be playing with paul rodgers. But the song with the firm is a beautiful journey....and by the end of it with the background singers, at high volume...anyone listening will be elated. Unless they dont like loud music and repetitive cool rock music.
  22. Music fans lookout for current documentaries on elvis and early rock radio...pbs america
  23. I am fairly sure wll was played that way, with jones and bonham being a horse on a full run, with page being a string on the bit on the 80 tour. I simply call that honesty and band support. He was strong when he needed to be throughout the set...but yes he was weak compared to early zep.
  24. I agree with that sometimes. Total mismanagement after 77 and not any better post zep in the 80s
  25. Totally, there has to be 45mins worth of that slate quarry set alone.
