  1. This is one of the sweetest pic ever! Thanks for the post!!!!

I love the kids dancing, they are so full of joy - we should all be so lucky!!

You're welcome. It is a joyous picture, isn't it?

    Here's another.

  2. Before you guys start digging up IRS records....:D

I've asked a member of Zep about the Vegas '69 show. He couldn't confirm the actual date, but definitely remembered the wood floors (as described in the Las Vegas Weekly article mentioned in the LZ Timeline ) and recalled staying at Ceasar's Palace Hotel).

I love this stuff. Really interesting work everyone. Its combining the best of Zep,archaeology, civic record research, networking with interested folks and romantic memories. Sort of like Indiana John Paul Jones..

Las Vegas seems to have an especially strong attraction in that it is/was a mystery date and also the city itself holds a mystique and energy about itself.

I've always thought it would be great if someone published a coffee table book chronicling the venues in which Zep played;photos of the actual houses of the holy.

  3. JPJ was interested in the possibilities of distributing one's music digitally years before Napster, i-Tunes, etc even existed. Making it available as downloads thru the internet may well have been what he had in mind.

Interesting to know Its a shame his plane has not come to fruition. I would love to see any of JPJ's solo material on an officially released CD/DVD.

To digress,I've always thought it would be interesting if Zep released their back catalog in USB format.

There could be each album on a USB in a multitude of shapes and sizes..including bonus art worktext etc. They could even make each USB cover the same as the original album.

Maybe that hasn't been explored as that option would diminish the music itself.

However, since all songs are already available in digital format through iTunes,a USB album would only be a convenient,if novel, container for the same music-offering the additional material ( photos, stories, interviews etc)

  4. Correct, that video is from New Orleans 3/14/00. The entire show was filmed. Not sure exactly how many gigs were professionally filmed (multi-camera) in their entirety, but the New Orleans video is the best one overall that I've seen.

I was at this show! I can be seen in the video for about 1/10th second towards the end. I waited out side the venue for hours and was the first one in. During the day,I believe JPJ walked right past me and I didn't realize it until after the fact!

I visited a really cool guitar shop across the street and hoped he would also come in but to no avail.

During the February 2002 Rockline radio show, I asked Mr Jones if he had plans for releasing any audio or video from his solo album and tour. He said yes he did have plans to release both video and audio from his solo tours-or words to that effect. I have this radio show on CD somewhere in storage.

  5. That's right, Frank. It seems to be an outtake photo from that session. My copy of

Assemblage is not within arm's reach so I'm unable to compare and contrast the

    other three against it.

Thanks Steve. I'm in the same boat-not within arm's reach of Assemblage to compare photos, unfortunately.

The backstage with the Who video would be my guess as the source of the first 3 photos. But it's intriguing to imagine where they're from if not identified as from that source.

  6. I wonder too! there are some screencaps around- which makes me feeL Like I have so much to discover.

Very true. There is so much yet to discover-or so I hope. It's a continual odyssey in the world of Led Zeppelin.

Those screen caps you mention: very interesting. I believe Sam addressed these earlier in this same thread. Great stuff.

And I should say that a fellow fan from FBO correctly pointed out that the 4th photo is from a very well known photos session in 1969. If you recall, there are the 4 members of the band sitting around a kitchen table with a box of Rinso detergent in the foreground. So maybe it's nt from video afterall-but anything is possible.

  7. Steve,

Would you be able to shed any light on the following phots from VH-1?

I'm assuming they are from video but can not place them. Could the first 3 be from the backstage with The Who snippet that was on Assemblage or Film Noir?

I couldn't begin to imagine where this last one could be from.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Frank

  8. :o Is that my name I see next to his butt?

    :P

I think thats a great pic. I emailed the photographer about it a while ago and she never responded. There are a few more from her from this same show and I was wondering if she had any background on the photos and show.

  9. Oh hell, Frank I'm still investigating your previous finds!

The three from Japan certainly appear to be video captures. It is known they were

carrying movie recorders with them as they toured Japan. If memory serves correct

this fact is conclusive in photographs of them visiting the Hiroshima Peace Park.

Ha! Keeping you busy with my wild goose chases am I?

Now that you mention it,I do recall seeing the movie recorders inphotos of them in Japan. Hmmm.

    Thanks for the confirmation Steve.

Now to wonder how much of the Stargroves/Headley Grange Sessions were filmed by Eddie. Wow. What an historical document that would be! And another Holy Grail!

While we're on the subject of Holy Grails,I'd also read something where a film of the band in the studio recording Zep II was floating around among the privilged few for a while.

For me,that would be the pinnacle of any Led Zeppelin collector's dream.

As always, I look forward to your feedback. Thanks.

  10. Drummers Bill Ward and John Bonham go way back. Bill attended one of Bonham's gigs at The Wharf in Worcestershire in 1965, and recalls Bonham "...had a pint of bitter at his feet throughout…" I sourced a BRMB Radio tribute that aired in the Midlands. Ozzy is among many local musicians who share ancedotes and memories of socializing with Bonham thru the years. Black Sabbath was also a short-notice support act for Led Zeppelin in Syracuse & Rochester NY (9/10-11/71).

Anyway, on June 26, 1972 Led Zeppelin allegedly dropped in on Black Sabbath to check on the progress of their fourth album & jammed on their new song, 'Supernaut' (unrecorded).

It's certainly plausible they also had a jam in 1970, but the details elude me at the moment. I will see what I can find out, but this from a Black Sabbath FAQ.

The "Holy Grail" of Black Sabbath material is the "Black Zeppelin" jam, a supposed recording of members of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath playing together. This recording can't be found in trading circles, if it even exists at all. According to Bill Ward if there are any of these in existence, Spock Wall would have them.

Spot on Steve! Very interesting. I had not heard the info about the 72 jam.

However, I do recall 'Supernaut' being mentioned in reference to the 1970 jam. Hmmm.

    The plot thickens.

And I defintely remember reading that Ritchie Blackmore interview where he so casually says the recordings from the jam with Zeppelin is in his attic. I remember so vividly because I was thinking: "Well, why DON'T you release them???"

Either way, I look forward to any follow up on this intriguing subject.

    Thanks again.

  11. Steve,

I don't know if this has been addressed in this thread or not. But it certianly warrants mentioning again if it has.

What is the story behind "Black Zeppelin"? I've read a few accounts of at least some of the members of both Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin having an informal jam together in 1970. I've also read that there was a common friendship among John Bonham and Bill Ward from Black Sabbath.

Recently I've read an interview with Ritchie Blackmore where he said that the tapes from those jams were in his attic at home and even goes on to mention which 2 or 3 songs were played together. I believe they are Black Sabbath songs.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
