  1. Unfortunately, WMG (Warner Music Group) and VG (Vonage) probably had one of the worst timed IPO's in a long long long time.

March 2006 WMG stock starts trading, where Joe Public can buy it around $20s and goes to $30's in a few very short weeks. Then it starts to tank, and tank and tank all the way to down to its eventual bottom of $1.50s March 2009. Today WMG trades in the low $5 range.

VG (Vonage)did a mass mailing in the beginning of 2006 to their existing customer base telling them they will go public and they could buy shares in the company's product they use. Retail customers buy like no tomorrow. The day it opens, Wall Street pro's short the snot out of it and it tanks horribly on its first two days drops like a led balloon losing 33% in just two days! Vonage starts calling their retail clients, who now have just lost 33% in two days! Retail clients start saying "no way! I just lost 32% in two days and you want me to give you the thousands of dollars I told you I would give you?" It got ugly! VG never looked back and just kept tanking and tanking and taking till March 2009 where it bottom around $0.25s. Today VG trades in the mid $1.50s range.

As bad as all this might sound, at least with WMG and VG are still around. I have seen company's issue an IPO and within a few months go bk.

Sorry if I got off topic a bit. Just thought some mind find this story interesting.

A bit off topic but very interesting (to me anyway). I take it you trade? If so we have so much in common :D

  2. Thanks Whyalla. If you happened to have those dimensions it'd be great. And I see what you mean about how complicated it would be to furnish The Object out of wood. But that's the challenge! I'll be talking to an artist I know and will discuss possibilities and troubleshooting.

And, no, I can't see myself getting into the memorabilia replica business. The company that made it in NYC still exists and given their reputation, I can't imagine them giving away the original cast or even if it still exists.

All good anywhere and I hope you manage to find those files.

    I'm on the case :)

  3. I'm trying very hard to remember if the reproduction Objects were packaged in reproduction boxes, as Rick's feature doesn't specify. It seems to me they were. If so, one would have to open the box to verify, as even

    a security scanner wouldn't confirm it's texture.

I agree totally about the packaging. If someones gone to all the trouble to reproduce 'The Object' for profitable gain then they're likely to spend some time on the packaging - to the point of distressing it accordingly. $2ks' a lot of money for a brick :) However it's not a lot for the real thing and of course the potential to take a cast from it (and profit accordingly).

This is from Dave Lewis' 'Tight But Loose files : Celebration II' I'm sure you've all read it but for those who haven't:

  4. A bit of a risk buying a seald one IMO. Would you ever open it? And if you did what if you found it wasn't 'The Object' at all BUT it was a brick!!! :o Just under $2k at the moment. The last one I saw on ebay; not boxed and badly chipped but had the pink primer showing through on hairline scratches, went for £900. So it could turn out to be the bargain of the century.

Triplet Kick. I worked out some dimensions a while ago to start a similar thing to what you are doing. I can't find them on the laptop I'm on at the moment but once I get time I'll check on my other computer and storage devices to see if I still have the measurements. I gave up with the project as it became so damn complicated to work it all. Hence the artist made 1 and cast the others from it. I wonder if the cast still exists OR could you make a cast from an original in perfect condition? $$$$$$$$

  5. Off topic but an interesting coincidence here: I had an e-mail today from a "Jimmy Page". I figured it was someone using his name to draw attention to spam but it's actually from a Jimmy Page who is the Circulation Manager for Drug Discovery News. I had a chuckle and thought it was ironic considering the old interview where Jimmy says he wants to be a biological scientist.

Jimmy Page, Drug Discovery News!! Nah.. can't be. Too much of a coincidence.

    Or is it :o

  6. Thanks, I have been looking forward to DLR with the VH boys for a loooooong time now. Awesome picture from the O2 show :D Have you checked out the John Butler Trio? Looking at who you are going to see, they would fit into your style very well.

    Peace.

Top man  I'm letting mine grow again. I was 'forced' to have it cut for the Zep concert! Fuck knows why, it was a rock concert after all. I was told I was starting to look like Frank of Shameless.

Do you get 'Shameless' in the States? If not try this link Shameless. I think you'll like it.

  10. Wish I could afford a nice Hennessey or Courvoisier. Might have to settle for an E&J, lol! I gotta say it's been hard getting back on the board after a hiatus and seeing all this fighting! Who are these people? Make's me want to go back to my chair. Anyway, I've missed you and so many others. It's like there's this struggle for the old guard to deal with this influx of newbies who don't seem to want to be a part, but rather to define the place. They could learn so much if they'd just accept that there are people here who've been here forever, had all the discussions, and could quickly get them up to speed on any topic if they'd just be nice and open. Instead we're "elistist know-it-alls". Pity that eh?

Thanks for the offer. I've had a little glass of vodka instead (real time) and a smoke. :) I agree with a lot of what your saying but it makes for intersting reading. Everybody's entitled to their own opinion but the fighting and bickering does go on a bit. After all were all here for the same reason and their's so much to be learnt from other board members if people would only stop, listen and think! As far as going back to your chair - DONT. The board need's people like yourself and 'the old gaurd' for it to function like it should do, and without the "elistist know-it-alls" we have nothing.

Anyway, did you get your hair cut? :'(
