  1. ^0 - Vile & Offensive - especially the lyric "I've missed your ginger hair".......but hang on a sec, three versions? oh yes, the Steve Winwood original! I prefer that.
  2. Agreed. Jimmy never "phoned in it" and as a result, he's always interesting to watch as he is right there in the moment putting everything into it. Take the Knebworth shows as an example; he is wringing with sweat from the sheer effort of trying to coax the riffs out of his Les Paul (or maybe it was the heroin, but still) did Clapton EVER sweat? I don't think so. Personally, I want to see the agony and ecstasy on the face of my guitar hero. I don't want to see them smugly hitting every note perfectly.
  3. Perhaps Jimmy is to guitar playing what Ayrton Senna was to formula one: an unpredictable, unorthodox genius, always pushing and constantly on the edge, moments from victory or seconds away from complete failure, not technically amazing but with amazing feel, risk takers - and sometimes it came off and sometimes it didn't...but it didn't stop them from trying. Not sure why that comparison came into my my mind...but there you go. But yes, Jimmy is definitely a "sloppy player" - of that there is no dispute.
  4. ^ The song reminded me a little of early Ash, perhaps. The melody was a tad generic, but still, I'd give it a 6. However, if I were rating the video, I'd give it a 12 out of 10 on the "awful 90's video-o-meter" that I created specifically for that video.
  5. I see what you're saying re: the 5th Dimension, and also, I was listening to a docu about Judee Sill the other day where Andy Partridge of XTC was talking about his love for her music, so. ^ I like The John Butler Trio but hadn't heard this song. Probably needs a few more listens....I'll give it a 7
  6. You have to admire how after the death of an irreplaceable member of the band they disbanded; refusing to carry on and shamelessly stay in the public eye any which way they could, be that via boy band collaborations, musicals with Ben Elton and touring with the runner up of American Idol. Not to mention the licensing of their music to countless adverts, and generally turning up to the opening of an envelope to talk about past glories and/or their latest collaboration/tour. Yes, I just love how they never sold out and are in no way an over saturated, overplayed karaoke band for the masses to sing along to at sporting events. Living in the U.K one hardly ever hears Queen on the radio or on the television, so thank you so much for a much needed thread to remind us of this notoriously media shy band's back catalogue.
  7. ^ Great artists. Song ruined by weak instrumentation/80's production values. 5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BO9IyLIOKGI
  8. Thanks. Ultimately, you can't copyright a chord progression, which is the case here. Would be very surprised if they (Spirit) win this case and if they do I should think it would open the floodgates and set a dangerous precedence.
  9. I did a vid a while back regarding how there are many songs that share a descending minor chord progression with Stairway...
  10. I think you're just adding extra caveats. Which is soooooo like Hitler. He was always doing that because he only had one testicle, apparently. "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."[2][3] In other words, Godwin said that, given enough time, in any online discussion—regardless of topic or scope—someone inevitably makes a comparison to Hitler or the Nazis." But when the jury get back from their deliberation, I guess we'll find out.
  11. The thread (Conspiracy Theories not Nazi's and Hitler) is now discussing Nazi's and Hitler since redrum compared them to Aliens. Pretty sure that we weren't discussing Nazi's and Hitler before that point? or at least non making direct comparisons to. Though by all means feel free to quote me all the posts where we were.
  12. Never watching Four Weddings and a Funeral.
  13. Ladies and gentlemen: Godwin's Law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law
  14. Even if one has never played a guitar, It's pretty clear that the riffs both use the same strings and many of the same notes. You can actually play it differently to this tab to achieve the same sound. For example, on the second section of Shake My Tree you could just as easily slide from from the "2" to the "4" (that's how I play it) and then that section would mirror Nobody's Fault But Mine even more.
  15. With similar due respect, they demonstrably are Although, my theory has always been that Jimmy is plagiarising himself because the Nobody's Fault But Mine riff is - in part - the Shake My Tree riff slowed down and reversed (with the latter using almost the exact same notes as the former) Who knows though except Jimmy? I've never heard of him lifting anything before, so let's give him the benefit of the doubt besides, it only becomes official when people have noticed it and are arguing in the comment section of the video. I can find no mention of it. All I can find is this accusation of plagiarism directed at The Tragically Hip : Thomas Jefferson 9 months ago This comment has received too many negative votes They stole the music from John Andersons Swingin · user98xp 8 months ago Oh my sweet fuck, you are onto something. Though, to be fair, many songs are similar to other songs.
  16. Well yeah, it could be anything in the imagination of our minds - anything is possible. I said earlier in the thread that I think to get from "they are out there" to "they are here, or have been here" is a big leap and there is no credible evidence for that. All of this (especially your third scenario) taps into a human need to feel there is someone (or something) of a higher intelligence "out there" watching us, and concerned with all the trivial things we do because we are really special and important - maybe even guiding us and intervening.
  17. I wonder if there is any "evidence" in the literature of Aliens abducting adult females and getting them to dress up in school girl uniforms - It must of happened. The truth is out there.
  18. We do, but we don't have to travel light years to do it. They could just be exploring but we're led to believe they are here on a regular basis.
  19. Yeah, but America would save the planet by flying into their mothership and giving them a computer virus. A la Independence Day. Or the Aliens would get here and find they have an aversion to water, a la Signs. We'd survive cause we're awesome 'n' stuff.
  20. If they were billions of years ahead in their technology; which presumably they would have to be traverse the universe mutilating cows and abducting Cletus out in Wyoming - It begs the question, why are they bothering? we would be so primitive by comparison. Therefore, I agree with a previous poster that it's just another example of human ego gone mad to think we're the most fascinating thing in the entire universe and something worth "observing"
  21. "I knew something was wrong when a little pretty white girl ran into a black man's arms"
  22. Hmmm, I take it they haven't watched the documentary I posted because it comprehensively refutes that theory. Paste this link and see for yourself. Edit: go to 9:05 to see this section. Edit (again) ok "behind" I'm misreading things again. Jesus...are there any theories left to come up with at this point? The evidence seems to point to one man and three bullets.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=5fKlSOKgJCM&t=544
