  1. Thanks for.....one of the best driving songs of all time. (The Triffids - Wide Open Road)
  2. I was 14 when Nirvana went mainstream and I couldn't really relate to the angst at the time - and also - I hated jumping on the bandwagon so I avoided all the music that people at school seemed to be listening to, mainly Nirvana, G 'n' R and Metallica. I do remember the day Kurt died as I was watching a show called MTV's most wanted with Ray Cokes when they broke the news. However, as I got older and life seemed to get progressively more crap, I definitely started to appreciate Nirvana more (not that your life needs to suck to like Nirvana) and could relate more to Kurt's feelings of isolation, alienation and antipathy towards the human race on some levels. He expressed a certain type of self-loathing and a frustration in not knowing why or how to change it that I don't think many musical artists have before, or since. Anyway, this is a fairly interesting docu if anyone hasn't seen it.

Strange how the bloke who started a Tennis thread seems to have no interest in it.... The Nadal V Djoker final, sorry semi - final was a classic....Tsonga V Ferrer was a big let down. Nadal V Ferrer final....vamos

You were spot on, good sir. What about today's matches? Glad you asked. Nadal V Djokovic Toss a coin as there is not much in this. Fine margins will decide the outcome; Djokovic is often a slow starter and Nadal needs to come out firing and take the first set to have a chance, but as we have seen over and over again - Djokovic never knows when he's beaten. He knows he can go the distance with Rafa - Djokovic in 4, maybe 5...ok, I don't know. I hope Rafa wins though... Tsonga V Ferrer Tough to call really tough. And that is the adjective to describe most matches involving Ferrer. To win, Tsonga is going to have to grasp the nettle and dictate the play - you know what you are going to get from Ferrer - so it is on Tsonga to take the game to him with some first strike tennis. If there are long rallies then Ferrer will most likely win 80 percent of those. Thos is Ferrer's best surface but Tsonga is the hometown favourite looking to become the first man since 1983 to win the French Open. Neither have lost a set thus far; something has got to give - Tsonga in 5.
  7. Thanks for Angus and Julia....

lol Bran Van 3000...I never understood what was wrong with drinking in L.A at 26? and, surely, Bran Van 3000 inexorably leads us to........... Not feeling an obvious summer vibe from Over The Edge by LA Guns, but hey, each to their own. Point Break is my number one guilty pleasure film of all time.

So..... today is the howl fest that is Azarenka v Sharapova then the non-contest that is (heavyweight) Williams v (lightweight) Errani. Sharapova in 3 and it is surely only a question of how many games Errani can win (in their past 5 meetings she has won one set)

Would like to see Nadal be the first man in the open era to get an 8th title at one slam. Although I think djoker will win their match and hopefully play Tsonga in the final who might have a chance as on his day if the stars align for him; he can beat anyone. If Ferrer wins against Tsonga and plays either Nadal or Djoker it will a grinding encounter of similar styles and I don't give Ferrer a chance. These two are playing tomorrow and it is truly the ultimate grunt fest.....I won't be watching.
  12. Perhaps. My personal favourites are Tittybong in Vic and Woolloomooloo in NSW.

Anybody else been watching the French open? order of play today is: Jankovic (Ser) v Sharapova (Rus) Nadal (Spa) v Wawrinka (Swi) Kirilenko (Rus) v Azarenka (Blr) Djokovic (Ser) v Haas (Ger) Can't see anything other than a Nadal v Djoker semi. Wawrinka has never taken a set from Nadal in their previous 8 meetings - although - Wawrinka has by all accounts been in the best form of his life recently. On the other hand, Nadal has been playing well below par and has dropped plenty of sets already but he usually doesn't have many problems with swiss players with one-handed backhands - but I'd go for Wawrinka managing to grab a set. Nadal to win in four. Haas came through a mini 5 set epic with Isner in the previous round after blowing 12 match points in the fourth set. Djoker has a winning 3 - 2 head to head over Haas and has being playing ok thus far. His first coach died recently so questions marks perhaps over whether that will affect his game at all. A tight game, Djoker in four sets. Oh yeah, and the women are playing too... For a better preview.... http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2013/06/2013-french-open-quarterfinal-previews/47788/#.Ua8d0dif2zs

Mungo freaking Jerry:p this fact is very scary... in the Summertime" was released. They stole the show[1] and the record topped the UK Singles Chart for seven weeks,[5] made number one in 26 countries around the world,[3] and to date has sold around 30 million copies Summer and The Beach Boys do go together rather well. Back in the day I had the Little Deuce Coupe and All Summer Long albums on cassette. Might as well JUMP! Ya kinda cheesy:p never heard of them - this is an education.

Never heard that track before - I like it - thanks for sharing. This track I have heard before; on seemingly a million adverts. That aside, It does positively ooze summer, a summer on a beach in the Caribbean, perhaps.

So for us lot in the northern hemisphere it is summer, and while there are threads already regarding summer songs, I wanted to ask what is the one song that best encapsulates in your mind the feeling of lazy summers past (or your idealised notion thereof) For me it would be: Air - Ce Martin-la Edit: thread title was meant to be "Your Summer Song" but I stuffed it up...
  19. There is indeed no harm in making sure. To my eyes there wasn't a scintilla of doubt that it was Bonzo when I first saw the footage, so I just found it amusing that others needed to confirm this via a date. As soon as he laughed it was a 100% Bonzo.
  20. Try and imagine how hot I'd be with duck lips...
  21. Nicolas Cage: You mention "Leaving Las Vegas." Is winning another Oscar important to you? Or is it now more, "Well, I did that. Now I just do what I'm going to do"? It's not important to me. In fact, I think that if you go about making movies to win Oscars, you're really going about it the wrong way. I think that it's ... right now, what I'm excited about is trying to create a [pauses] kind of a cultural understanding through my muse that is part of the zeitgeist that isn't motivated by vanity or magazine covers or awards. It's more, not countercultural, but counter-critical. I would like to find a way to embrace what Led Zeppelin did, in filmmaking. That's an interesting way to put it. Do you know what I mean? They did no press, you know? And "Stairway to Heaven" wasn't even a single. Yeah! And they were the biggest band in the world and they remained intimately mysterious -- because they just went about it their own way, or against what the advice might have been or what the council might have been. And I admire that. And I would like to tap into more exploration of horror films and just everything that I shouldn't be doing, according to representation. http://news.moviefone.com/2012/02/14/nicolas-cage-ghost-rider_n_1276535.html?ref=moviefone
