All great and the bass work in If It Keeps On Raining is the star of this arrangement, just really good bass-work.

Have it playing as I write and you are bang on. . And love the melody Plant chooses on this one as well. And Bonham makes it a shuffle. Wonderful stuff.

La La.  So many textures, and Page's guitar tones and phrasng are out of this world.

A close second would be 10 Ribs and All.  So unexpected and so ethereal.

Damn, 2 amazing choices (that I just relistened to). Both a huge glimpse into how a song is built. La La so damn groovy and a nice solo in it. 10 Ribs has some heavy handed Bonham playing ( and I mean that in a good way) and some sweet acoustic guitar playing. And of course JPJ playing so beautifully.

    Great stuff John.

  4. I been loving my new Sennheiser headphones (no it is not an ad I just love them!) so I’ve been sitting outside and listening to Zeppelin. I am going through all the outtakes Page released on all the reissues. There are so many gems.

    2 tracks truly blow me away;

Brandy & Coke (Trampled Underfoot Initial Rough Mix). The 2 vocal tracks so clear and just stunning!!!! Especially with headphones. The “Oooooooo Yeah”s are gold!

Everybody Makes it Through (In The Light Early Version).  It doesn’t hurt that In The Light is my all time fave Zep tune but this outtake is a musical gem.

    Sunshine, brings laughter…………

(While I am on this it sounds like he then sings “Rain clouds, brings a dance”. Anyone else here this?)

Just wondering out of all the outtakes Page released which ones rock ya?

If ,sadly, Page releases nothing else I am so happy he included all these amazing outtakes.

    Cheers.

Glad you liked it.  Have you listened to WLL from that show yet?  It has a great improvised introduction, and some keyboards during the theramin section - rather unusual.

I have it playing as I write and it is a killer version! The intro is a great jam. Plant's voice is amazing. And how, like you said, JPJ decided to jump in during the theremin thing. That has to be one of the great live version of that tune. Many thanks.

Very well said.  For a more over the top/rawer version go to Orlando 8-31-71.  Not as good a recording but it is something else.

I have no idea why this font is happening but I love it................................... I juts listened to a bootleg called "Orlando Magic Florida Sunshine" and oh my friend you are so right, that is a killer version. The band and solo are so intense that it is almost a relief when it stops and Plant comes back in.  And the intro Organ part isdso amazing. Nice call on this one, thanks.

  7. I always tell myself that I could not possibly love Zeppelin more than I do, and yesterday I sat outside on a hot Montreal summer night with my new high-end headphones and was listening to the BBC recordings and Thank You came on.

It blew me away. It is so powerful and so beautiful and Bonham is on fire! And the solo is classic Page. Then everything stops and Plant comes back in.........And so today, my world it smiles.

And the tasty tasty interplay between Page and Jones at the end is wonderful

Among 1000 other moments this is Zep at their finest. What a song. What a version and what a recording.

Many thanks to my Northern Neighbor.

Geez, you Canucks have sent us Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Bruce Cockburn, Shania Twain, Rush...I mean on and on.

But, yeah, I sincerely appreciate the kind words.

Ha ha, not often do you hear Shania Twain mentioned in that company but I will proudly admit that my wife and I often sing her tunes at the top of our lungs. It is great, fun, car-trip music. Sometimes you gotta get silly.

    I leave you with some lyrics by my all time fave Cohen song;

Now I bid you farewell, I don't know when I'll be back
They're moving us tomorrow to that tower down the track
But you'll be hearing from me baby, long after I'm gone
I'll be speaking to you sweetly from a window in the Tower of Song..................

I'm 55 years old from the Midwest.

Like the rest of you here, I'm sure, music is just a HUGE part of my identity. Inward and outward.

I was married for 31 years and the ex hit me out of left field with a divorce. REALLY took my legs out. Not expected. Hit hard.

Moved out to an apartment, Alone for the first time in 3 decades. It was really tough. Then a couple months later, my 24 year old son was killed.

I got over that ol' divorce thing instantly.

My Son was an extraordinary musician. I taught him how to drum when he was around 10 and then he really took it from there. Learning virtually every instrument he could get his hands on. And played them WELL.

We used to sit up together...late. Listening man. Listening to lots of stuff. We both had a wide, eclectic range of tastes. But, we would always come back to the Zep. I still listen and its a salve to my soul.

    Its been one year.

I  miss you Son... And I love you.

Hey Brad I can't pretend to know everything you have been through and I am so sorry to hear about your son. Let the music you shared continue to keep you together.

Thanks for sharing. Love and respect to you from Montreal.

Imagine a 1-2 combo of Thank You segueing into I'M Gonna Crawl and replace the strings intro with a short, keyboard intro coming out of the outro to Thank You. Getting rid of Rain Song and moving All My Love to the position of first encore, last encore being The Ocean or Communication Breakdown.

    Oh I like this 👆guy

Safe space? Where do you think we are…Portland?

You asked a question and all I did was impart some information in simple sentences. I did not call you any names or say anything snarky about you. If pointing out that your topic heading was misspelled is all it took to violate your 'safe space', I don't know what to say. For a guy with a tough name like Darth, you seem fairly thin-skinned.

This statement is null and void...........

    Howdy All,

Apparently I have offended member (note there is no "s" on members) here with my curiosity and desire to feel connected with those that feel the same love for the mighty Zep and Mr. Page as I do, so the following is written directly to you Merle.

    Blue-Eyed Merle,

Thank you for making what I formerly felt was a safe space into one that I will no longer enjoy visiting and sharing my ideas through.  I really didn't mean to set off your delicate sensibilities with a simple typo caused my auto-correct, although I think I'll leave it in its shameful glory since I am a bit of a Puck at heart and I am not impressed by your tone towards me... also, I sincerely doubt anyone was confused by the typo.

Since I now feel the need to defend indulging my shameful curiosity, I will say I only generated the thread because of the concert listings I saw on US TicketMaster to be seen here https://www.ticketmaster.com/THE-BLACK-CROWES-tickets/artist/734564  and I had looked at Ross H's site for the first time in about two years and saw photos of Chris and Rich looking well, and know that Ross and Jimmy have a connection.  These perceived connections resulted in me posting my question while I listened to Live at the Greek, not realizing it would rile.

I would have been interested to know about the changes within the band, and am saddened to hear that former members are not involved, if this info had been shared in a more humanizing tone, it would be taken as welcome info, and my feelings about the Crowes would be on par with my feelings for The Who.

I apologize for not having my finger on the pulse of the comings and goings of the music world; maybe it would be nice to simply inform rather than be a DB neckbeard to people who are simply trying to palaver.  I will be certain to privately message you before I ever even think of posting an innocent question, or even visiting, here again.

    -Darth Hoek

Agree with everything you wrote. Cheers my friend.
