  1. Then how come you always post links to YouTube clips?
  2. Do you ever listen to full length albums on vinyl, CD, tape, etc. or just songs only on YouTube? Just curious....
  3. Mike Cross, this past Thursday in Nashville, NC.
  4. Even if Neil were to come to NC on this tour I wouldn't be able to afford it, tix are far too expensive. On the other hand, his current setlists are among the best he's performed in years. As far as favorite records, I love Rust Never Sleeps. It's not only one of my favorite Neil Young albums but it's one of my favorite live albums of all time as well.
  5. I haven't purchased the box set yet but I'd say it's very much worth it. I know around Christmas time last year Best Buy put several boxes (including the Hendrix one) on sale for around $30 so you might wanna keep your eye out for more specials. Either way, I'm sure it's a very worthy investment.
  6. The vast majority of the the time The Beatles remain my favorite group of all time (notice, no "best") but sometimes it depends on what day of the week it is. I put the Who, Zep, the Stones, Dylan, Skynyrd and R.E.M. up there too.
  7. Looks like there's going to be another Jonathan Demme directed Neil Young film:
  8. 1984? Yeah, it's got a few decent cuts but it's by far their weakest DLR era record. I like everything up through Women and Children First then things start to get iffy. Enter Sammy Hagar and they turn into a power ballad heavy band in the manner of Journey.
  9. If Bob can't sing in concert what makes you think he can sing in the studio? Personally, I believe he should continue to make music (onstage and off) for as long as it makes him happy. With The Neverending Tour he appears to be doing just that.
  10. Word is, his voice is completely gone. Yep, some people have been saying that for years but apparently even longtime fans can no longer stomach the sound of his voice (or what's left of it). I haven't seen Bob since he switched over to piano in concert but the three times I saw him before that I could still somewhat understand what he was singing. Sometimes he might be halfway through a song before I picked up on what it was but at least I was able to recognize it.
  11. Depending on the artist, I think some still use very primitive means to get the sort of effects you mention.
  12. Well, you never know around here. Some folks bitch and moan every time there's a duplicate thread. Then there's folks that don't seem to care one way or another. I knew there was a Van Halen thread already in existence so I thought you would like to know just as a courtesy. Otherwise it could have been found by using the Search feature.
  13. ...but I've read of dozens of incidences of fans walking out on Dylan's shows lately.
  14. It may have been a left curve but that album didn't have any commercial aspirations whatsoever.
  15. Mike Cross Tonight Christmas In Carolina Tour Nashville, NC
  16. I'm a huge fan of both artists but I haven't heard of any incidences of fans leaving Neil's shows early as of late.
  17. What do you mean by a "chart-oriented" album? If you mean an album aimed at the masses, I don't think Neil Young has it in him to do such a thing. Even if he did, Trans most certainly wasn't it. You have to remember, this is a person that recorded a string of what he percieved to be bad albums just so he could get out of his contract with Geffen Records at the time.
  18. http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/articl...t_id=1003684939 Young Opens New York Run After Lengthy Delay Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. Undeterred by a fire department investigation and a subsequent nearly 90-minute delay, Neil Young opened a six-night run Wednesday (Dec. 12) at New York's United Palace Theatre with a stellar performance drawn equally from new material as it was vintage gems. Young's wife Pegi was supposed to open the show with a solo set around 8 p.m., but due to an investigation to ensure the venue was up to current fire code, no fans were let inside until well after 9 p.m. The scene outside was one of mass confusion, with a line stretching around the block and multiple police and fire vehicles parked outside. Once fans were allowed to enter, it was decided that the opening set would be scrapped and that Young would take the stage directly for a solo acoustic sequence. He didn't disappoint, liberally switching from guitar to piano to banjo on classics such as "A Man Needs a Maid," "Harvest," "Old Man" and "Heart of Gold." He called the fire code problem a "bullsh*t excuse," but then joked, "unless I catch on fire or something." He also gave appreciation to the intimate venue, saying, "It's great to be able to play like this. [Years ago], I never thought it was going to get any bigger." After a short break, Young returned with an electric band and promptly tore into rockers like "The Loner," "Dirty Old Man" and "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere." "The Believer" was dedicated to Ike Turner, who had passed away earlier in the day, while "No Hidden Path" ran well past 20 minutes and featured some of Young's loudest playing of the evening. The encore closed another long jam on "Like a Hurricane." Young and company return to the United Palace tonight. Here is Neil Young's set list: Acoustic set: "From Hank to Hendrix" "Ambulance Blues" "Sad Movies" "A Man Needs a Maid" "No One Seems To Know" "Harvest" "Journey Through the Past" "Mellow My Mind" "Love Art Blues" "Old Man" "Heart of Gold" Electric set: "The Loner" "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" "Dirty Old Man" "Spirit Road" "Bad Fog of Loneliness" "Winterlong" "Oh, Lonesome Me" "The Believer" "No Hidden Path" Encore: "Cinnamon Girls" "Don't Cry No Tears" "Like a Hurricane"

  20. Trans? To each their own but if that's the album you're refering to I'm very glad he did it, as that record was years ahead of it's time. That's one of the many cool things about Neil, he's never been one to follow trends but he isn't afraid to set them in motion or take chances musicially.
  21. Very good but I found it a bit hard to follow at times since I'm not so up on Dylan's personal life. Then again, there's a lot of moments of pure fiction. It's definitely worth viewing for it's unique approach to Dylan's many different personas over the years.
  22. He has an album out called Chrome Dreams II and is presently on tour. The long awaited archives are due for release (again) next year.
