  1. Probably because the poster directed his questions at the lack of songs from In Through the Out Door during John Paul Jones post-Zeppelin concerts.
  2. Looks like fun but it's not in the cards for me this year either.
  3. Very doubtful. Rock n' roll is alive and well in 2011 but new music isn't very well represented on commercial radio so it's not like these songs (that some may consider their weaker material) would be received as groundbreaking by today's standards. Some Zep fans are so blindsided by their fandom that they can't see the forest for the trees so you have to figure that sort of blas and lack of objectivity in there as well.
  4. Going to the Solid Ground Fest? I have a few friends headed that way.
  5. Those early Aerosmith albums are definitely records I cut my teeth on right alongside Sabbath, Zeppelin and Skynyrd in the 70s so I think they certainly belong in the same company. Whether they can have an artistic revival so late in their career is anyone's guess. At this point they've released more shit albums than high quality ones so their track record isn't exactly in their favor. I'm all for them pulling a rabbit out of their hat though.
  6. Not a lot of Wilco fans (or fans of new music in general) here so it's not surprising. I'm looking forward to the new record myself.
  7. Plant doesn't even like it. From what I read he doesn't feel compelled to play it unless it's a rare occasion. I like it but I have to take a breather from it every so often so I can actually enjoy listening to it.
  8. Neither Karen O or Trent Reznor are my thing but at least they add their own flavor to it. What would be the use of doing a straight cover of it anyway? Far too many artists do that and I've never seen the point. Why even do a cover if you aren't going to add your own twist to it?
  9. As if their legacy hasn't been cheapened enough by the survivor(s) touring long past their expiration date, news has surfaced of a "Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer" joint in Las Vegas. With Rod Stewart set to begin a two year residency at Ceasars Palace in August it looks like Las Vegas is gearing up to be the Branson of rock n' roll.
  10. New single featuring "I Might" b/w a cover of Nick Lowe's "I Love My Label" on limited edition blue vinyl available through the Wilco store. There's also a black vinyl edition.
  11. Not by a long shot. Then again, it's all about opinion so there is no one band that's the "greatest", even Led Zeppelin. It's all in the ear of the beer holder.
  12. That's already been covered in this thread in the News section: New Immigrant Song Cover
  13. I think it's safe to say they were "trippy" throughout their entire career. I just so happen to prefer the more acoustic based stuff. For fans of Workingman's Dead, American Beauty and Garcia's work with the New Riders of the Purple Sage and Old and In the Way, this album is also a great place to start: When this was released on CD it was missing one track from the vinyl edition ("Oh Babe It Ain't No Lie") but when it was re-released as part of the reissue campaign for the Beyond Description (1973-1989) box set in 2004 that cut was restored to the tracklisting along with several bonus cuts that came from the same shows as the original album.
  14. Every one of their concerts was improvisational to one degree or another. I saw them four times between 1989 and 1995 and enjoyed them every time. What made the live stuff sink in with me in a bigger way was finally hearing some of the studio albums (such as Blues For Allah) which sounds positively sterile compared to how those songs were performed live.
  15. My introduction was Workingman's Dead, which is probably why I've always been more of a fan of their acoustic, song-based stuff than the jammy live explorations. It has it's place too since they cemented their reputation as a live band but it took me a while to fully appreciate it.
  16. Glad to see him back out touring. Hopefully he'll hit the U.S. after this current overseas run. The new stuff is definitely much more to my liking than Cardinology and his metal homages.

I hate I missed them when they played here with Destroyer this past Spring but I'm sure they'll be back around soon in support of the new record.
