  1. At one point it did seem like the news though, at least as someone who grew up watching network newscasts in the 70s and 80s. Then, there were the individual news programs on the weekends such as 60 Minutes, Meet the Press, etc. Now, it's hard to tell the difference between a network newscast and tabloid news. Hard news, biased or not, has all but disappeared from the airwaves.

Live Acoustic Album – August 16 The Rockets re-imagine and re-tool 13 songs from their vaunted catalog, including songs from albums long out of print. Look for it in the summer. Here’s the skinny from the band: “Although it may not be obvious, most Bottle Rockets songs are written on acoustic guitar. In contrast to being identified as a loud rock band, we enjoy the opportunities to perform without amplifiers and electricity. Songwriting is distinctly showcased under those stripped down conditions and requires the songs to sink or swim on their own. And on such occasions, we are always amused by the tangle of cords, plugs, and wires that are still involved with supposedly ‘unplugged’ music. Choosing the right venue is important to the success of any show, and the Lucas School House in St. Louis was our correct choice for two sold out shows. Located on the edge of the historic Soulard neighborhood, the venue was formerly a one-room school built in 1898. The small, second floor gymnasium had been renovated into a concert hall with a beautiful wooden interior, stained glass, plush leather seating and state-of-the-art sound system. Serving as an ideal listening room during its short life, any performance in that space was an intimate music experience. Recordings from those shows provide the material for this live album and the songs selected here include a mix of favorites, rarities, reinventions, and performances in-the-moment. Although the Lucas School House has since closed, this album preserves the essence of those two special nights.”
  3. No news source is completely unbiased. I mainly listen to the BBC but it's not unbiased either. I also take in other news sources via print and the airwaves and form my own opinions from those. Whereas my right wing friends get all of their "news" from Fox and Rush Limbaugh, hardly credible sources for anything, much less actual news.
  4. I saw them a couple of years ago and even though I was only familiar with a few of their songs outside of the Starfish album, I really enjoyed the concert. They're still going strong and releasing solo and full band albums to a very receptive audience in some parts of the globe. In other words, they're not some nostalgia act riding on their one well known hit song.
  5. In some ways it's tantamount to "nanny nanny boo boo" but in some cases I think it's absolutely necessary. Not because of any desire to hide uncertain truths but rather to not have to read the inanities of certain members of this board that bring nothing to the conversation but nonsensical bullshit.
  6. If it isn't already obvious to you that "Faux" News is far from "fair and balanced" then you're living under a fucking rock. Here's one example but I can cite many, many more. Watch as Jon Stewart puts Bill O' Reilly in his place in these clips. Common coming to the White House was definitely a case of "much ado about nothing".
  7. Thanks, that should make visiting the board a much more enjoyable experience.
  8. Where is the confounded "ignore" feature? I sure don't see one.
  9. Can't say that's true. I've heard some live recordings of theirs from the 70s when they sounded like absolute shit. I saw them on the Get A Grip tour in the early 90s and they were definitely on top of their game. I'm still not a fan of their latter day material but I have to give it to them as a live band.
  10. Which makes it all the worse. Then again, it's not the first time Aerosmith have had to turn to outside writers in an attempt to score a hit.
  11. I'm in the clear. According to TheStairwayRemainsTheSame, Led Zeppelin II is evidently the "greatest album of all time".
  12. Aerosmith at their absolute lowest point, covering Diane Warren's "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" for the Armageddon soundtrack. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKAn1HvmRXM

Cover of the new Gillian Welch record from her website. The album is due on June 28th.
  14. Except when they kill unsuspecting people that actually have their eyes on the road and aren't attempting to do everything but drive when they're out on the road.
  15. To me "the album you always look over" and the "one you don't care too much for" denote two very different things. Overlooked albums are often considered the under appreciated ones. To me, Presence is too often overlooked by the general populace but I consider it my favorite Led Zeppelin album. I've also never had a problem with In Through the Out Door as it's also one of my favorites. I'm also not sure why Coda is included as a choice as it's not a proper album in the sense of the of the others, it's actually a collection of outtakes and was never intended to be released as an album unto itself like their other records. As for my least favorite, that would be Led Zeppelin IV.

    Jimmy Page Says...

Very easily. Remember how Led Zeppelin kept things under a veil of secrecy in the 70s? The same thing applies to Jimmy Page (and any number of other artists) in 2011. Not everything is leaked to the internet. If you'd like to familiarize yourself with the works of Gillian Welch, go here. She and Plant performed together during the Americana Music Awards at The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville last year but she's well known as a performer in her own right.
  17. I'm just thankful to have never heard a single note of his music. Quite the accomplishment considering he's pretty much everywhere these days.
  18. I just remember listening to R.E.M.'s Dead Letter Office when it first came out and one of my friends commenting how he preferred R.E.M.'s version of "Toys In the Attic" to Aerosmith's original. It also showed more of R.E.M.'s harder side which they rarely showed on record, you had to see them live to hear their covers of Aerosmith, Mission of Burma, Television, etc. In other words there's much more to them than "Losing My Religion". Great song and it showcases many of R.E.M.'s strengths as songwriters and performers but the harder stuff heard on Accelerate, Monster and New Adventures in Hi-Fi really reveals their punk rock influences.

  20. Wrong again. This version smashes Aerosmith's original like a fucking grape.

  22. If you're going to cover someone's song, especially this one, it'd probably be wise to actually learn the words to it first.
