  1. Does your username imply that you like both Hootie and the Blowfish and Ryan Adams?
  2. I didn't think it was all that bad but it was prime evidence of the old adage about not being able to go home again. Nearly 20 years between movies is a very long stretch to try to pick up on the same magic again and it shows here.
  3. Haven't seen this documentary of their reunion tour but I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually. I have lots of fond memories of those early albums, especially Big Bambu. Much to my surprise I found a copy of it in the used section of my local record store a few years ago and it still had that huge rolling paper inside completely intact.
  4. As long as there's Classic Rock radio playing their songs into the ground day in and day out there will always be Led Zeppelin fans.
  5. Never did finish reading this after I first purchased it so I've picked it back up again.
  6. 2011 isn't over yet. Yes, his track record (just how long has he been promising a new album now?) isn't great when it comes to this but I wouldn't start the bitching in earnest until 2011 is actually over.
  7. Not new as the album it comes from (When You Left the Fire) came out last year but it's definitely worth recommending: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cx-XhWLeZlo
  8. From RollingStone.com: Brian Wilson Hints at Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Reunion' I just don't know if I want to be around those guys, you know? They're crazy' Brian Wilson attends NARM Convention Awards Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza on May 12, 2011 in Century City, California. Duffy-Marie Arnoult/WireImage By MATTHEW PERPETUA In an interview with BBC 6 Music, Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson hinted that the group may reunite in the studio to celebrate their 50th anniversary. "I'm considering it," he said. According to Wilson, nothing is holding him back aside from a reluctance to reconnect with his old partners. "I just don't know if I want to be around those guys, you know? They're zany guys. They're crazy." Wilson has not collaborated with his former bandmates since he co-produced Stars and Stripes Volume One, a 1996 album featuring country versions of their hit songs. Though it remains to be seen whether or not Wilson will record new material with the band, the Beach Boys will be coming together to put the finishing touches on Smile, the band's never-released follow-up to their 1966 masterwork Pet Sounds. The group will be offering input on the album's track listing, which was never firmly established as the record was never completed as originally planned.
  9. This is from the issue of Mojo magazine from late last year where It Might Get Loud was named DVD of the year:
  10. I'm not implying that it can't. I'm merely agreeing with you that the song sucks but for way more than just the ad-lib.
  11. Exactly. Yet another instance where some asshole creates a thread just to create a stir and then never returns to participate in it.
  12. Probably because he played there last year. Yeah, I know it's not unusual for an artist to play the festival twice but it may be the case this time, especially since he was a headliner. Opening act North Mississippi All-Stars being on the bill really doesn't mean anything in regards to Plant.
  13. You might wanna try this thread: Five Albums - on a deserted island
  14. I think it's more than the ad-lib that would qualify it for that thread.
  15. I've only seen him in concert three times but I'm glad I saw him when I did. From some of the reports I've heard from friends I'm not so sure I would want to see one of his current concerts. Then again, with Dylan you really never know. Apparently some nights he's on and on others he's very off. The Grateful Dead and other bands have the same reputation but I had pretty good luck with the four shows I attended of theirs.
  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTRHIVScAXE Technically not a "cover" because the author (Ray Wylie Hubbard) is sitting in on this version by Jerry Jeff Walker but I couldn't resist posting because of the vintage footage. I'd love to see the entire movie someday. Here, Ray Wylie Hubbard tells the story behind the song and why royalty checks have been very, very good to him.
  17. Long forgotten classic from Jon Butcher who used to front a band called the Jon Butcher Axis:
  18. I guess it says a lot about the appeal of your band when you've had your material covered by everyone from Smashing Pumpkins to the Dixie Chicks.
  19. ..and, just for shits n' grins, the original by Jerry Jeff Walker:
  20. Thanks, one thing that put me off of the box set was all of the various takes of the same song. Interesting as they may be I think they wouldn't hold up well to repeated listenings. That's one reason I've never purchased the much heralded Robert Johnson box.
  21. I still prefer the original version by James Taylor but Buffett does a pretty damn good job with this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAWh5DZO6ns
  22. A "sham" is implying the potential audience for this is somehow being misled into believing it's something it's not. Daltrey has been completely upfront about having Townshend's blessing. It's also not being advertised as "The Who". Since the audience knows this going in, it's definitely not a sham. Agreed about his voice but it seems like on rare occasions, he's still able to pull off his signature scream from "Won't Get Fooled Again".
  23. I think many of them actually are worth it, especially when there's previously unreleased material and the quality of the recordings has been improved upon. This is true in a lot of cases since when CDs were new a lot of record companies just rushed them out in order to capitalize on the new format. I've always had an eye on the Layla box. Between that and the new deluxe edition which one would you recommend? I bought the deluxe edition of that DVD when it first came out. Lots of great performances on there plus it shows just how open Johnny Cash was when it came to other forms of music, especially rock n' roll.
