I defend rap only because it's a valid genre of music. Yes, it's influenced other forms of music and vice versa, it's what happens with all kinds of music not just rap. Sometimes it results in absolute crap such as Limp Bizkit but in other instances you get some really creative stuff such as Portishead or Rage Against the Machine.

I love packaging. I especially love it that current bands such as the Drive-By Truckers (though they're far from the only ones) still invest a great deal of time and money in album artwork. In fact, Wes Freed, the guy that does all of their artwork also does individual posters for every concert they do. Thanks to folks like them, it's a very vital part of the music listening experience that's being kept alive. As Shelby Lynne said, "you can't roll a joint on an iPod". You like Thriller and Bad but rail against Disco and Dance music? This does not compute. As for the Jackson Five, I like them but their music was mostly bubblegum. Still, I'd take it anyday over the complete output of solo Michael Jackson. Back in the day it was the Partridge Family, the Osmonds, Bobby Sherman, the Monkees and the like. Out of those, I definitely preferred the Jackson Five.

I didn't really think it did, I mentioned the endorsement of this particular band by Plant because I wondered if that what the poster actually meant. I remember seeing The White listed on rosters for several area clubs back in the day and it always said "Endorsed By Robert Plant", that probably helped them out a great deal as far as getting people that were on the fence to attend their concerts.

When Natalie Merchant played Durham last year I waited until the day of the show, walked up to the box office and scored a seat in the front row, center. The show wasn't sold out but it was still remarkable that I was able to score such a good seat at the last minute.

I remember a Zep tribute band from the 80s called The White who were endorsed by Robert Plant. A quick look at this bit of info should reveal why.

Just curious. Your penchant for loud album covers has often made me wonder if you'd actually post a photo of something like the Beatle's White Album if you were listening to it or if you would have to take a can of Day Glo paint to it first.

Vinyl or the box set on CD (which I think comes with some extras that weren't part of the original vinyl package)? Picked this up last night during the CD release show for it at Jessee's Coffee & Bar in Carrboro, NC: The night started with Jeffery Dean Foster (The Pinetops, The Right Profile) playing his opening set outdoors but an impending rainstorm meant the proceedings needed to move inside. Outdoors was great but once things went inside out of the rain it just pumped everything up another notch for Lynn Blakey's set. Led Zeppelin were primarily known for playing rock n' roll but that doesn't necessarily make this a "rock n' roll" site. They incorporated several other genres of music into their own. Likewise, a lot of us that listen to them also listen to other kinds of music, which this portion of the board is a reflection of. As for defending rap, Page himself played with P. Diddy. Personally, I'm not a fan of rap but I've never been one of those that doesn't consider it a valid genre of music. I'm also not particularly big on punk rock but that doesn't mean I don't have an appreciation and respect for it. The same goes for all other genres of music that I may not really be into. In other words, just because this is a Led Zeppelin board it doesn't mean that talk is going to be limited to just rock n' roll when the band it's devoted to didn't limit themselves to just one form of music either.
