  1. You have to remember, you're talking with someone that thinks Rick Dees' "Disco Duck" was ground zero for Disco in the 70s.

Do you pick album covers to post here based on the gaudy artwork alone or do you actually listen to them?

    Page with the Lips?

There seems to be an echo in here.
  4. A rock n' roll record being banned from radio is a completely different thing than being banned from a message board.

Years ago, one some Westwood One Radio special about desert island discs, Weir mentioned "Kashmir" as one of his selections. I have no idea what Garcia thought of Zeppelin but I believe he and Page had a connection via the pedal steel guitar. I can't remember the specifics now but it may have been mentioned in the Bill Graham bio Bill Graham Presents.
  6. No, Bob Dylan went to Beijing, China on Wednesday of this week. "Music" already existed there. I'm asking specifically what Dylan playing in China has to do with the current state of music?
  7. No shit, Sherlock. What does it have to do with the topic of "What Happened To Music"?

Hot Tuna's first new album in 20 years came out this past Tuesday.
  9. So, what was up with the Dylan clip?
  10. Thanks. I've seen The Proposition and yeah, I also recently rented The Road. Unfortunately, most of my choices are limited to Redbox's selections. That is, until I sign up for something like Netflix. Usually I go out in search of a specific movie I want to see but as I mentioned, since Redbox rentals are only $1 I know find myself choosing from what they have to offer. Latest rentals: I had NO idea what I was getting into here. Goes to show you should always read the product description before renting. I was very pleasantly surprised by this one and enjoyed it a great deal. Absolute shit. I have no one to blame but myself on this because I did read the product description beforehand. That should have been a dead giveaway. Not to mention the Rob Schneider factor itself.

Due April 19th. If you're so inclined, you can watch a "making of" clip here.
  12. The gullibility of the American public never ceases to amaze me, especially for those that believe nothing happened at Three Mile Island. On top of that, I have a couple of close friends who very strongly beg to differ on the U.S. government's version of what actually happened there. To read the truth about Three Mile Island click here. This is from the synopsis of the PBS documentary Meltdown at Three Mile Island: Three years after the accident, a robotic camera was lowered into the Unit 2 core, providing the first look at what really had happened. Roger Mattson, a senior NRC engineer, describes what was revealed: "We had a meltdown at Three Mile Island. Fifty percent of the core was destroyed or molten and something on the order of twenty tons of uranium found its way to the bottom head of the pressure vessel. That's a core meltdown. No question about it."
  13. Perhaps the person that posted it can answer but if this person is the previously banned poster known as Eternal Light the best you're likely to get is some sort of non-answer.
  14. Was it that bad? I must add I say that as a Dylan fan but some of performances (both past and present) are beyond atrocious. Then, on some occasions he still hits it out of the ballpark.

Furthur is Phil Lesh and Bob Weir from The Grateful Dead along with Jeff Chimenti, John Kadlecik, Joe Russo, Sunshine Becker and Jeff Pehrson.
  16. Can't say I've ever really thought of Tommy Keene or "Places That Are Gone" as "New Wave" but it did come out in that era. I always thought of his music more as "Power Pop", which would more accurately explain the Raspberries influence. The entire EP it comes from, Songs From the Film is well worth checking out. Jay was a force to be reckoned with and not just because of his work with Wilco. Too bad the differences he had with Jeff Tweedy resurfaced just prior to his death. In case you've never seen it you might wanna check out the documentary about the making of Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot called I Am Trying To Break Your Heart which captured Tweedy and Bennett trying to come to terms with their differences on film.
  17. Not exactly the most uplifting movie I've ever seen but it's definitely much better than several of the stinkers I've watched lately.
  18. This sounds like the same exact version that appears on the Willie & Leon album One For the Road. According to the clip it looks like it's from some sort of TV special. If so, I'd sure love to get my hands on a copy of it.
  19. I don't know that it was a Top 40 hit but it was Tommy Keene's biggest hit. He's released other songs but none were as successful as "Places That Are Gone". BTW, that's the late Jay Bennett of Wilco on guitar.
  20. St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Athens, GA where R.E.M. played their first gig (supposedly under the name Twisted Kites) 31 years ago today. The Gibson guitar website has a pretty nice article on it here.
  21. Perhaps. For one thing, thanks to Facebook old fashioned message boards like this are dying a slow death. Another thing would be that a whole lot of people that post here aren't interested in new music. Sad but true.
  22. When I reach for an album to listen to it isn't driven by what artist I think is better, it's dictated by mood. That's what I meant by "rock n' roll isn't a competition". As for how much airplay Journey gets, I could really care less as long as I don't have to hear it. The ways in which we listen have changed over the years where I can seek out specialized stations, create playlists, etc. and not have to be subjected to Classic Rock or Top 40 radio if I don't want to.
