  1. Not sure what's up with that. I noticed those changes from the one with John Wayne too but since I haven't read the book I wasn't aware of that aspect of it. Perhaps it'll be something that's addressed in the bonus features when True Grit comes out on DVD. When you watched the first True Grit with John Wayne did you notice that it was rated G? I found that strange, especially given that he said "son of a bitch" in it. A friend theorized that it was rated G for today's audiences but that still doesn't make any sense. I wouldn't think things have changed that much that a G movie would allow profanity. Watched this one last night and while I enjoyed it, I had to fight off sleep several times:
  2. From RollingStone.com: Exclusive: Buffalo Springfield Plans to Reunite for Fall Tour Band friend David Crosby confirms group will hit the road for the first time since 1968: 'Personally, I’d like to go watch' Richie Furay and Neil Young of Buffalo Springfield perform at Neil Young's 24th Annual Bridge School Benefit Concert at Shoreline Amphitheatre on October 24, 2010 in Mountain View, California Barry Brecheisen/FilmMagic By Patrick Doyle Since Buffalo Springfield reunited at last year’s Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, California, there have been rumors the band will tour for the first time since their break-up in 1968. Now longtime band friend David Crosby confirms it: original members Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay will hit the road this fall. “I think he is excited,” Crosby says of CSN bandmate Stephen Stills. “And I’ve got to tell you, I didn’t get to see them live, but I watched clips and Richie [Furay]- I got to tell you man, he is so happy onstage and is such a joyful energy.” To read the remainder of the article click here.
  3. T Bone made a similar statement during the opening ceremonies for SXSW several years back. Unfortunately, the industry doesn't seem to be paying attention. They're not concerned about sound quality, they're worried about money so T Bone's pleas are more likely to fall on deaf ears.
  4. Former Led Zeppelin singer to lead band away from cover versions and begin working on own songs
  5. Yes, it did. You can even ask Steve A. Jones or Swandown for confirmation.
  6. I actually think it had plenty of humor but it was so subtle it appeared to go over most of the audiences' heads, at least that was my movie going experience. I found myself laughing at stuff they didn't appear to get. I've talked to other moviegoers that noticed the exact same thing. Thanks, that pretty much hits the nail on the head, at least as far as how the old TV shows and movies were shot.
  7. This clip was featured on 60 Minutes back in October of last year. For more info on the clip as well as a link to Morley Safer's full report, click here.
  8. I beg to differ, there are many great artists that emerged from all of those eras of music. Who will "hold up" 50 years past the point of their inception is impossible to say. In the 80s bands like R.E.M. and U2 made a huge impact on music that is still being felt to this day. They pretty much opened the door for what would later become known as alternative music. In the 90s it was artists like Pearl Jam and Nirvana. Pearl Jam is still going to this day and are continuing to put on outstanding performances as well as releasing new music. Turn on nearly any "Modern Rock" station and you'll soon find that the majority of those artists own a huge debt to "grunge". As for the 00s, it's too soon to tell how they will be remembered in the future but lots of great artists have emerged from that era as well. I love Led Zeppelin as much as the next person but they're not the only band that makes my musical world go 'round. That list would be nearly endless. I'm not saying this is true of you but for some there seems to be some sort of vacuum where Led Zeppelin exists and no other artists (no matter how significant) are allowed to enter. Where they great? Where they groundbreaking? Yes, but they weren't and aren't the only ones.
  9. If so inclined, you can tune in for the world premiere of Go-Go Boots here tonight at 8 pm EST.

  13. There's one here. My experience with the Search engine here is that you have to use more specific keywords to locate previous threads. For instance, rather than using "Beach Boys" I used "Wilson" and found it immediately. I had only been familiar with most of their surf and hot rod tunes growing up in the 70s. Years later everyone kept mentioning Pet Sounds and how great they thought it was, a milestone in music, they said. I purchased it in the early 00s and listened to it in nearly every conceivable environment (from headphones on the beach to 10,000 feet in the sky) in an attempt to connect with it. For years, it never really came to me. Then, one weekend at the coast I put it on around 3 am and it finally came to me. I have barely revisited it since because I'm afraid it won't be nearly as magical as that 3 am spin I experienced a few years ago.
  14. Robert Plant's Band of Joy to Perform at MerleFest 2011 Robert Plant MerleFest 2011, presented by Lowe's and slated for April 28-May 1, has added legendary musician Robert Plant's new Grammy®-nominated project, Robert Plant and the Band of Joy, to the festival's lineup. Robert Plant and the Band of Joy's eponymous album, released in the fall of 2010 and nominated for two Grammy awards, was roundly praised by critics. Rolling Stone stated that "Plant uses an 'A' list of country voices and players (Patty Griffin, Buddy Miller) and an inspired mix of vintage and modern songs," and the Los Angeles Times lauded Plant's embrace of "the ancient roots of country and folk music, a haunted place where broken hearts rarely heal and where restless spirits find little peace." 15. I'm not limited to thinking in such terms, my imagination is much broader. I can listen to a single musician (no matter the instrument) or an orchestra.
  16. Strawberry Music Festival which is held in the Spring and Fall. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival which is held in the Fall. The best part? It's FREE.
  17. I'll always enjoy the first one with John Wayne but I feel like Jeff Bridges was definitely the better actor in the newer version. Agreed somewhat about the color thing. I've noticed in some older movies (and TV shows for that matter) that it's hard to tell when it's nighttime, perhaps because they didn't have the same sort of lighting abilities back then. Not sure if that's what you're talking about but it's something I've noticed. Watched this one last night which I liked much more than I thought I was going to. I have a very low tolerance for Will Farrell's brand of over the top humor but he was much more bearable in this flick.
  18. Never read it myself but perhaps somewhere here that has can offer up an opinion. The reviews at Amazon seem to speak pretty favorably of it, at least the few I skimmed through.
  19. Maybe Slash would be up for it. He has to do something to compensate for his appearance with the Black Eyed Peas during halftime last night. I'm sure Joe would understand.
  20. Trust Wiki? Here's what they say: "S. Flavius Mercurius" is credited with lead guitar on "The Same Old Rock". The guitarist, better known as Jimmy Page, was unnamed within the album credits for contractual reasons until the release of the digitally remastered album in 2007. The re-release was packaged in a 20 page case bound booklet with new pictures, prose and poetry.
