  1. Indeed it is but as you said The Sun is less than a reliable source.
  2. Not that there aren't any out there but so far I haven't found any news articles that reveal the cause of death. This BBC report even said this: "He was so robust, he wasn't a rock casualty, he was a healthy guy". The quote is attributed to Eric Bell, a guitarist from Northern Ireland.
  3. As I've mentioned countless times by now, I'm not even a fan but there's LOTS. I can hear fury in an artist performing solo as well, that also doesn't require the presence of bass guitar.
  4. It provided great insight to me as well in regards to the person he became.
  5. Don't want to give this away for anyone that hasn't seen it but I will say it was well worthing watching.
  6. I've read something similar but it was David Gilmour and he said "The Sound of Music": “It’s absolute nonsense, it has nothing to do with The Wizard of Oz. It was all based on The Sound Of Music.”
  7. Depends on what you like and don't like. It all has a place for different people, depending upon their tastes. I've never been a fan of electronica or industrial but it's all a part of the greater landscape of rock n' roll. People may not consider Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" a rock n' roll song but it got lots of airplay on my local AOR station back in the day. If all of those things fit into the puzzle, most certainly the guitar n' drums fury of The White Stripes do too. Jack and Meg pretty much took rock n' roll back to where it began.
  8. Yeah, but you're in the Other Bands / Music section and even if you weren't, it's not disrespectful to heap praise on other musicians, at least not from my viewpoint. I'm quite obviously a Led Zeppelin fan but just because I'm here doesn't mean they're my favorite band. Lots of artists make my musical world go 'round, not just one.
  9. Doobie Brothers "Another Park, Another Sunday" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkq64lCWOhE
  10. This is only an exhibition, not a competition. So, please, no wagering. Raising Sand Revue Band of Joy
  11. U2 "Sunday Bloody Sunday"
  12. The Moaners from their first album, Dark Snack. Guitarist/Vocalist Melissa Swingle formerly fronted a band called Trailer Bride, drummer Laura King was once in a band called Grand National that also included Ed Crawford (Whiskeytown, fIREHOSE, eD fROMOHIO, etc.). The Moaners just released their new record Nocturnal this past summer.
  13. "Minimalism" is exactly how rock began, along with a very healthy dose of primalism which is exactly what the punk rockers were trying to get back to once rock had reached bloated excess in the late 70s and early 80s. All Jack and Meg were doing was reminding everyone of the core of rock n' roll again. Can't say that "ruined" anything.
  14. Strange, I kind of got to know his music via his solo records first. I knew he had been in Thin Lizzy, whom I liked (and still do) but it was the solo albums he released in the 80s that first brought him to my attention.
  15. While listening to the BBC on my local NPR affiliate last night I heard a piece about a new book that chronicles the early days of The Wailers called I & I: The Natural Mystics. Whilst seeking out some more info about the book I stumbled upon this interview with the author, Colin Grant. Good stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HtNHJi4MuA
  16. Mamas & Papas "Monday, Monday" Boomtown Rats "I Don't Like Mondays" Bangles "Manic Monday" Jimmy Buffett "Come Monday" Allman Brothers Band "Stormy Monday" Lynyrd Skynyrd "Tuesday's Gone" Moody Blues "Tuesday Afternoon" Drive-By Truckers "Wednesday" Easybeats "Friday On My Mind" Cure "It's Friday, I'm In Love" Bash n' Pop "Friday Night Is Killin' Me" Robbie Fulks "Let's Kill Saturday Night" Grateful Dead "One More Saturday Night" Elton John "Saturday Night's Alright For Fightin'" Sam Cooke "Another Saturday Night" Chicago "Saturday In the Park" Monkees "Pleasant Valley Sunday" Johnny Cash "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" That's a few off the top of my head, anyone have any more to add? Surely, there's some songs about Thursday and more songs about Wednesday...
  17. Disc 3: Natty Sings Hit Songs 1975-1981
  18. Thanks, the issue with the Allmans on the cover is still on the stands here in the States, at least in my area. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for this one.
  19. No, I will not but I will be taking part in some devouring some delicious steamed oysters at a birthday celebration out in the wilds of Eastern NC this afternoon. The Krispy Kreme Challenge has never sounded like much of a recipe for fun to me, it's more like torture. Some folks may go for that sort of thing but I'm not one of them.
  20. I posted a link to this review above. The reason I don't post entire articles here is because folks like David Menconi (the writer of the article) need all the internet hits they can get at their respective websites because it helps keep them and the publications they work for in business. Even though you provided a link, the majority of people aren't going to click on it, they're just going to read the entire article here. The News & Observer has been subject to several layoff in recent years at the hands of McClatchy Newspapers so anything I can do to help David (as well as other writers) keep their jobs, I will do.
  21. I may not agree with him stirring a pot that really doesn't need stirring but having seen him in concert last year I'd say he's very far from "washed up".
  22. I don't think it was a gimmick. Jack White has given Dexter Romweber props at nearly every opportunity he's had to do so and for good reason.
  23. Strange, this poster wasn't on display at the concert. If it was, I never saw it.
