  1. Man, would I like to finally see (and hear) a Soundboard Release of the never heard Houston 1975 show.....!

First ever classical piano interlude by JPJ during "No Quarter"...  Repeated again the following night in Baton Rouge on Feb. 28, 1975

What's the significance of this show? I have seen it mentioned several times, but have the slightest clue of why.. Is it rumored to have been a fantastic show or were you there by chance..?

Was there on the front row, show was between 3 and a half and 3 hours 45 minutes, first show after the release of Physical Graffiti, and the first show of the 2nd leg of the 1975 USA tour.....  They had been off for almost 2 weeks, they got into Houston the night before for a band dinner and were well rested....  Plant's voice had two weeks off too....  This show is mentioned in particular in the Davis "1975 USA Tour" Zeppelin book....

They ripped the roof off the joint that night.....  Even Robert looked down at us and said, "This is a really good gig"....  He said something about a lot of happy smiling faces and good energy in the crowd...

  3. The Houston 1975 gig at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston, Texas was fully General Admission... no seats on the floor.....

(We celebrate the 40th anniversary of that show on Friday - 1st show AFTER the release of PG)

There was a long line at the main doors and for some reason they opened the side doors first away from the line.. I was one of the first ones in the door and SPRINTED as fast as I could to center mike..... The crowd was not violent or aggressive, even for a GA show, and Robert made a really nice comment about how great the vibe was in the crowd that night... They had a few "rowdy" nights on the East Coast during the first leg of the 75 tour.... After a 2 week break for them, this was the first show of the 2nd leg of the US Tour.... Robert's voice was fully rested and THEY TORE IT UP...!

Also, there was no security barrier, like they have now.... I could have reached up and tapped Robert on the foot...

After 3 hours and 45 minutes, it was over..... They were spent - we were spent.....

No audience bootleg or soundboard of this gig exists to this day.....!

  4. RIP Mac.....

Your post says it all, Strider....

I am really going to miss him.....! What a man.......!!

Just had dinner with him the night before Thanksgiving - he couldn't have been any happier or healthier looking..

He couldn't wait to get back to England for the holidays to spend time with family......

Fate seems to provide some really "WTF" moments, eh?

  5. Jimmy's guitar in the photo is a 12 string Fender electric.....

It was probably a "loaner" for the end of ceremony "'celebrity jam" with Jeff Beck, as I have never seen him photographed with it or any guitar quite like that....

Mr. Steve A Jones might have a little more info on the details

  6. These photos are GREAT, Deb!

    Good job!!

    All the best to you-

    Mark

Had a great time to say the least at Chastain Park Thursday night. Weather was amazing for this time of year. I stopped by my friends house which was close to the concert so we could all meet up there. We then went to the restaurant about 3 blocks from Chastain and had appetizers, drinks outdoors prior to the concert.

We then proceeded to the concert venue and arrived about 7:50PM. Here is a photo of the tour bus

Then JBLZE took the stage. Nobody for the most part was sitting down during the songs. Here is Dorian on bass who as usual did an amazing job.

    more coming:-)

  7. you are welcome fdm12

from my vantage point Clapton was not a douche although he did seem to take on the role of conductor (he was blunt and direct) and the one to get things together and push it through. He was chatty and chummy- when it was time to get to work he made sure it was sharp and everyone was in place.

At the Dallas show- from what I saw, Clapton was the 3rd best guitarist on the platform and about the 5th best vocalist and it showed. Clapton played well, sang well and led well as always. When Beck was introduced everyone forgot about Clapton. When Page was introduced the event started.

When Page's Danelecro was brought out... the air had goosebumps. When the doubleneck came out... it was surreal. Time flashed back and time stood still all at once. From then on- it was Page's platform to share with others. Maybe this was a bit much for Clapton to yield to without a being a little crabby and feelings of being sleighted. Not my place to say, just the vibe he seemed to give off.

The finale with Cocker was unbelieveably good. Solid top to bottom and I have yet to see anyone connect with a lyric and deliver it any better than Cocker did that night. That man wanted to be there and his heart was pouring out for Ronnie Lane. Paul Rogers sang his butt off with Jimmy and during the finale his backing vocals are the best I have ever heard.

Great stuff, DK... Totally agree with your observations and you are spot on relative to Dallas ARMS-

  8. I'm not sure where or when this is, looks like 84 or 85

    Hi Joey-

I can solve this Led Zep "photo mystery"..... I would be the photographer of record for this particular shot.

This is a photo that I took of Jimmy Page in March 1985 in Ronnie Lane's room at a party after the Firm's show in Austin, Texas that night.... Where did you find it?

  9. It almost looks like a tobacco-burst but it may just be a play of shadows...

This is a photo from the Rolling Stone review of Jimmy Page's Austin 1988 Outrider show... What the Rolling Stone reviewer didn't mention in the article was that Jimmy dedicated "Train Kept 'A Rollin" to Ronnie Lane that night...

The legendary Neal Preston took the photo..... IMHO, the best live concert photographer EVER!
