  1. I didnt like the way it was shot, and the only way I can describe is "stock".

A concert of this magnitude, I see a genuine lack of camera flow. It just didnt match what my eyes wanted to see or follow, bad timing with a few edits, etc. All the little things that could have been done for bonus footage wasn't done - I would have had at least six Go Pro's on Jason himself, catchng his facial expressions, his hands working (rolls), his footwork, hitting cymblas etc.So many little things that bothered me, hardy any medium crowd shots, a shot ot two of roberts feet (boogie'ing). Just a bunch of little stuff that added up for me.

Im really glad it happened and love it, please dont get me wrong. The entire production could have been better.

I have calibrated my home theater system (with Audyssey and a sound meter). I sit appox. 12 ft. from my Sony 55" HDTV. I have done the "sub crawl" to get the optimum sub location, and the sound has improved greatly. The bass is much tighter and noticeable just like it should be. The mixing of this concert is really not that great though. Sometimes you can hear Jimmy's guitar and sometimes not. Roberts voice gets lost in the sound of the band from time to time. But again, as stated above, I'll take what I can.

Favourte Shot; Jimmy, Robert and John Paul in front of the drum riser waiting/smiling at Jason - as a film maker, thats described as a "giflt".

  2. Saw VH 7 times. 5 times with David and twice with Sammy. EVERY time I saw them with David they just kicked serious butt, EVERY single time I saw them with Sammy they just didn't have that same energy nor that same VH sound. The 1st was their debut when they "warmed up" for Black Sabbath. Warmed up?? No, they blew Sabbath off the stage, and Sabbath was really good. The last was in 2007 with the reunion tour in Phoenix. That concert was a close 2nd with the 1st concert for sound and energy. I'm just curious as to why the band has not released a Blu Ray of the 07 reunion tour?!

  3. Thanks for backing me up on this one Geezer! It's not my intention to stir up a hornets nest on here, just telling it as i see it IMHO.

Everyone has the right to their own opinion and that's the intent of the OP. Let's give Jimmy the benefit of the doubt. He's not what he once was, BUT, this is our (pun intended) our Swan Song of the band playing maybe their last live show. I'll take what I'm given. Maybe if the mixing was better this concert would have sounded much better. When I saw them in Tampa in 73 I heard EVERYTHING, all the instruments, all the singing. If you listen to the band from 73 their tone was unbelivable. Jimmy captured this in several songs. Misty Mountain Hop and Kashmir come to mind.

  4. After watching the DVD a number of times I was, to be honest disappointed, and I only listened to about ten minutes of the Shepperton Studios DVD before I swirched it off. Overall I'll stick with the Led Zeppelin 2 DVD set.

Move forward to Misty Mountain Hop and Kashmir. And even though I spent the extra money for the rehearsal, I watched it once and that should be it. Not crazy with the sound of it. I would have liked ALL the rehearsals but that could be reaching!

  5. The layer change on DVD's are well known, but this is different. There is an software issue with some peoples sets. For example, I have the movie Stargate on Blu Ray. There was an issue with the disk not playing the movie, it would be stuck on the menu. The studio replaced it. It happens and the studio or whomever released it has to know so they can fix the problem.

  6. I have the regular dvd & it happens every time (10 so far) not a big deal

Disagree. Why settle? This is supposed to be enjoyable! Zeps concert is not the first DVD or Blu Ray to have issues of one kind or another. Now that I think about it, my surround speakers have a delay when I first put on a song. After that, no problems. We should write the company that released the concert. If they get enough responses they could fix it and reissue us new versions.

  7. They "redid" the sound for the 1st 2 songs. When you listen to the You Tube version of Good Times and Ramble On, there is a TON of feedback. This is missing on the offical release. I'm wondering if that has something to do with the sound on the release. Plus many have said Zep didn't get into the groove till Black Dog. You will notice a huge difference in the energy from Black Dog on. I'm not bragging in any way shape or form. But i have a Rythmik FV15 subwoofer. I have it with both plugs open and I cleanly get down to 18hz with no problem. I had a hard time hearing the bass on Good Times Bad Times myself. Again, I'm moving into a new house, after I'm settled in I will calibrate my eq and then will give a review of the Blu Ray. What ever the sound is, it simply blows away The Song Remains The Same in a big way.

  8. I watched the whole thing on Blu-ray and I didn't have any such problem.

Same here, except when I played Kashmir last night the audio didn't come on right away. It only happens when I go to a chapter and not the whole disc. It could be a software issue in the DVD or Blu Ray.

  9. Back in the early 70's I had EVERY magazine (U.S.) that had anything to do with Led Zeppelin. I even had a magazine that was a special edition on the Filmore East and West that had the entire artist list from those years, including of course Zep. Sadly they were lost in a move...

  10. Tampa, May 5th 1973. I also heard a bootleg record of the San Fran show in '73 and that perfomance and sounded like the show I saw them. I just can't explain enough why I am not a very big fan of The Song Remains The Same. It was the same tour I saw them in Tampa and, to me anyway, it wasn't the same band I saw blow everyone away in Tampa. I have the DVD of TSRTS with the special features, but I bought it mostly for the Tampa Pulse newscast and the song Celebration Day. Here's a link to the intro by the local DJ and the 1st song. Click on the middle picture of Robert. It's audio only.

  11. I want to say I already replied to this, but here I go again! How The West Was Won was the Zep I saw in concert in 73, or close enough (can't beat being there though!) The Song Remains The Same? Same tour I saw them, but not the same Zep. They just sounded tired. I have heard boots that they sound better on. Can't speak for vinyl since I don't buy it anymore. I wish they would release HTWWW on multi channel SACD. I know it's on DVD Audio, but with mixed reviews. Since I don't own an OPPO Blu Ray player I can't buy the DVD Audio. I do have a Sony Blu Ray player that plays SACD. I have 2 discs so far, Dark Side Of The Moon and Elton Johns Mad Man Across The Water. Both are superior in every way over the CD version.

  12. The Tampa Stadium show, May 5th 1973. There is not an audio version of this or any Zep song that does any justice. The bass was just vibrating the stadium and when they were playing the 1st part of the song it just took everyone by surprise..oh, and then Jimmys bow solo was just everywhere. How The West Was Won is probably the closest version to what I heard except they added the "San Fran part into the song.
