  1. ...so long as she doesn't sing while there
  2. My good friend Noah might be a suitable guest vocalist for a solo Page record... bass player in the band he fronts is Tony Franklin(The Firm), drummer is Chris Layton (Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble), keys is Riley Osbourn (Willie Nelson band)
  3. what a fantastic tone, and Paul Rogers was not over singing- thank you Deborah J hope you enjoy this Deborah J- you may recognize the first two minutes as it is a commonly played snippet by Jeff Beck... then my favorite THE FIRM song. Money Can't Buy... they played this at the sound check in Oklahoma City in '86 and it went on and on and on....
  4. just fell in love all over again Osaka 9/29/71 went to California and I need a mandolin really bad right now
  5. great point Charles choice of instrumentation and voicing is unusually effective
  6. personal opinion is that I enjoy(ed) maybe 5% of Lennon's catalog. Less than 1% of his solo- scratch that- his non-Beatles work. Not sure that makes him a superior artist or less of one or some where in between. The little bit I have read and seen I thought he was way out there and pretty much a nut case. I am in New York often for work and pleasure, the imagine mosaic in the sidewalk is in my opinion poor taste not in artistic quality rather in that it memorializes inappropriately the place where a man met his end and his maker. I think it glorifies a murder. Probably wrong, it just creeps me out. Insofar as Lennon being a hypocrite- I won't get in line to throw any stones. I will say that what he lived is what we all live- and that is- we all live our choices. No one gets a pass.
  7. reading your comment makes me remember that Celebration Day is about celebrating, glad Ahmet's widow called and asked them to help
  8. I like the way they recorded the drums- Chris Slade sounds amazing on these tracks.
  9. first day of Mardi Gras ...made classic jambalaya in a 6 qt cast iron pot. Used 2 lbs of andouille sausage. Ground sasafras leaves... oh my.
  10. from what I hear, one of Page's highest achievements as producer is each song has its own sound and identity.
  11. Live and Let Die- introducing a 19 year old Miss Seymour, she tarts up nicely at 61
  12. Yessssssssssssssssss !!!! love to hear it if you have it recorded
  13. thank you for pointing this out- predictive texting got me and I didn't notice. So continuing on... Jimmy Page as Producer discussion ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
  14. when she leaned into it- no one could bring it better... back when she was motivated and not over managed this girl was the best- loved her concerts. I saw her on this tour in '77 and on a couple of songs they jammed and she sang scat with the bass and guitar player. Usually her management kept her on too short a leash to let her sing the way she wanted to. I saw Heart, Linda Ronstadt, Carly Simon, Leon Russell and Joe Walsh in the same week. If only I had known how good I had it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnunvpBcp4s
  15. As a point of discussion, what do you think Page's contributions are as an executive producer? People tend to view his work with Led Zeppelin through a lens of being a guitar player. This is to say, he is a guitar player who also produces. While true, I have heard and been a part of several interesting conversations over the years that focus just on the production side of things. Selecting and managing engineers. Spending months mixing. With the depth of experience in this forum, it interests me to know what you feel about Page's work as EP for Led Zeppelin. What has come up in conversations previously: 1. A few people think the title EP is a label more than anything. 2. Some have feverishly made a case that Page's producing outweighs his contributions as co-songwriter, possibly even outweighing his guitar playing 3. More than one conversation has anchored the point that Page's producing was too heavy and stifled the band. 4. Page excels at collaboration in his producing just as he does in songwriting, song performance- his dynamics as producer bring out the best in the band Discuss please? Very interested to know what you think and where you are on this. Gratzi.
  16. mid 70s+ yesterday... a little bit of golf and a tinge of a sunburn. GOD BLESS TEXAS, 'coz it could be snowing or tornadoes tonight, who knows...
  17. what guitar is Bob Welch playing in this song? interesting n'est pas? not talking about Stevie in a mini-skirt although....
  18. That's not a CT on Ramble On dunno where that came from... Johns was either disputed or the author made that up
  19. the Monk does it all for jazz, I enjoy playing it more than listening to it. why? when I play back the recording of the show it NEVER sounds like I remember it sounding it when I played it... don't have an answer. Not the case when covering songs or playing original, formatted material. especially on the odd time signatures, the playback is not what I heard when it was happening. It's a joy, it's a puzzle- it's jazz
  20. nice post up ZEPSCODA... great song this is playing throughout the house right now...
