  1. I can think of two examples in my life... I got the call from my best friend that he broke up with his gf after she cheated on him... I was listening to LZ II (im pretty sure it was Ramble On when he called)... but I had just listen to Heartbreaker... a little strange, IMO but, the wierdest examle that happened to me was last when I was in a local restaurant, listening to Ten Years Gone in my iPod... and this lady started talking to my mother and they started talking, didnt pay any attention... and she looks at me and "Ben?!? I havent seen you since you were 6 years old!" at the time, I was 16 years old... so... 16 years - 6 years=10 years... gone (since she last saw me) that moment freaked me out! anyone else have a wierd story?
  2. welcome to this thread, hermit! (a place of peace from the d-day happening over in the next POTUS thread ) like I said, I havent gotten to the 80's era yet and dont plan to untill I get Islands, Lark's in Aspic, and Starless and Bible Black... to understand what the whole first stand of KC was all about imo, In The Court of the Crimson King has gotta rank up there in terms of the best debut album of all time... and its because of that album I've learned to love the mellotron and enjoy the "epic" feel it adds to any song
  3. you would be correct about catfood I like the jazz stuff alot... in fact Lizard is sounding just as good as In the Court and In the Wake to me and Lizard is probably the peak of the jazz use for the band in the early-early albums
  4. if looks could kill... I'd be on life-support! yet another beautiful picture, Inga!
  5. I was afraid of that... but I appreciate your concern and attention to my question! I've learned so much from this thread from the questions you have answered... a great thread!
  6. Hey Steve, It's been a while, but I'm just wondering if there has been any progress of the "ITTOD Cover Mystery"? its jsut been a while without any updates... thanks in advance!
  7. hey... I miss you!! come back soon

  8. Neil Young is IMO a top 5 guitarists in terms of talent, creativity and ability... after hearing his guitar in "Like a Hurricane" I was blown away by his performance, and I began to look deeper into Neil's career... that kinda paused as I began my current King Crimson journey but hes someone I'll continue to look into as I expand my musical universe
  9. two things... 1. which genesis peter gabriel or phil collins? (I think peter's years were better, but king crimson is better then the both of them) 2. whats your favorite king cirmsom stuff?
  10. here's a question for you, wes... I have the single Groon on my copy of In the Wake of Poseidon... if there were other songs, made strictly for single release... what are they and are they available in anything other then a box set?
  11. it was funny for me after hearing this jazz/prog band for 4 albums... and then hearing Starless... which IMO had a slight blues feel to it... the first few minutes reminded me of Tea for One great was to end the album and their first era as King Crimson
  12. well, the first thing I look at the is full title of Epitaph... the full title is Epitaph including MARCH FOR NO REASON and TOMORROW and TOMORROW so, I'm guessing ths song is about the future The wall on which the prophets wrote Is cracking at the seams. Upon the instruments of death The sunlight brightly gleams. When every man is torn apart With nightmares and with dreams, Will no one lay the laurel wreath When silence drowns the screams. Confusion will be my epitaph. As I crawl a cracked and broken path If we make it we can all sit back and laugh. But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying, Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying. Between the iron gates of fate, The seeds of time were sown, And watered by the deeds of those Who know and who are known; Knowledge is a deadly friend When no one sets the rules. The fate of all mankind I see Is in the hands of fools. Confusion will be my epitaph. As I crawl a cracked and broken path If we make it we can all sit back and laugh. But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying, Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying. now, for what the future holds... I think they saw the colapse and failure of society... considering a Epitaph is what you write on a tombstone and the lyrics are a symbolic failure of the future... but, thats just my opinon
  13. kind a stupid question... but it was bothering me... out of all 6 covers of ITTOD... why was this one picked to be on the CD release?
  14. what about the other stuff...? ghosts? aliens?
  15. I try, Wes what I really liked in In the Wake of Poseidon was the drum beat and the well-timed rolls... also, that mellotron is one of my favs... and touch of horns (right around the line "Empire, blood and water world on the scales") adds a chilling effect overall, In the Wake is the best overall representation of early King Crimson, as it showcased all of their facets as a band
  16. ghosts and aliens are real as for the others... scientists have said only 20% of life on earth has been identified... I know that most of that 80% missing is bugs, plants and stuff in the ocean... but something could be out there its wierd, I doubt we will find anything, but I wouldnt be suprised if we did... you know what i mean?
  17. pretty much all of the first album, all of the second album, Cirkus, Red and Fallen Angel from the 4 albums I have right now... I heard a 30 second demo of Lark's part one and it sounded awesome but, if I had to boil it down to one song, I would pick In the Wake of Poseidon
  18. well... I was working on a new sig, due to my shift in musical interest for king crimson... and so this my new sig and avatar
  19. I'll go more in depth tomorrow... obviosuly a great departure from Court, Poseidon and Lizard (the 3 I have currently heard)... I think the change would be in more understandable and more in line if I had heard Islands, Larks and Bible Black... Still there were those signs and tells that it was good ole' KC best song, IMO, is the title track and Providence is a close second a VERY modern sounding album for the times (1974, i believe)... I would have said this sounds like underground/borderline-grunge in the 90's based on the overall sound... Fallen Angel is the only song that tries to remain with the 70's, IMO hard to compare to the first 3 albums, as it is a totally different sound and band, but this ranks up there with my two favs In The Court and In The Wake
  20. ^^^^^ awesome!!! I just bought RED tonight (and my own copy of In the Court)... I'll listen of RED tonight and review it ASAP I wish I could get the albums in order... but this was the only album they had at the moument... and I have JPJ's 2 solo CD's coming monday/tuesday... so I'll have to wait on Islands, Larks and Starless... I know where to get Starless, but I'll have to wait and see about the other two 4 down, 3 to go
  21. I think my plan is to get islands, larks, starless and red... all from the early period, and take a break to enjoy all of those in that period... and from there... I'll look at the rest of the collection
  22. Wesely, would you recomend I listen/buy their albums in chronological order... i have with the first 3... or does it not really matter what order I get islands, larks, starless and red?
  23. I was able to get through Lizard becasue it was still heavy Mellotron and the jazz on that album reminded me of Cat Food, which was one of my favorite songs from In the Wake of Poseidon I dont have anything beyond the first 3 albums... so I wanna know, how much did the style change after Lizard? because I know that there was a shift in musical direction... jsut not what exactly it was
  24. I even hear die-hard prog fans say they dont like them or dont understand their music... its sorta funny because many consider them one of the first prog bands... I mean, it took me a couple of listenings to undersand In the Court of the Crimson King and appreciate it... but at least I learned to appreciate it and love it
  25. one of my favorite bands... my friend let me borrow In the Court of the Crimson King a few months ago... and the first time I heard it, I didnt really like it... about a month later, I had my iPod on shuffle and 21st Century Schizoid Man came up...that time, it liked it and listened tot he rest of the album, with a much different result! I loved the mellotron and the effect it gave throughout In the Court of the Crimson King. Peter sinfield's lyrics were mysitcal and carefully caved each song into its own. From now on, I have to listen to the album all the way through, I cant listen to just one song. I bought my own copy of In the Court of the Crimson King and their next album, In the Wake of Poseidon I liked the album, it basically is like a disc 2 of their first album. The Devil's Triangle (a cover of Holtz's Mars: The Bringer of War) was one of the evilest sounding songs I have ever heard. And Cat Food being one of the wierdest songs I have heard. A couple of days ago, I bought their 3rd album Lizard. The opening, Cirkus is a classic Crimson song, with heavy mellotron. Lizard is a 23+ minute epic and took me a few listenings to understand the complexity of it all. I still need to listen to Lizard more to gain a ful perspective about it... I created this thread to talk about King Crimson and get some opinions about the rest of their albums... I knwo the band shifted gears after Lizard, so I wanna get some opinions to find out if I wanna continue to get the rest of their albums
