  1. Thanks for the reminder, Strider! Meant to listen to this show for the first time this year and almost forgot. On Dazed right now and loving it!
  2. Soundboards actually aren't ideal for the noise solos IMO -- the dry tone and lack of ambiance doesn't do them any favours. Purely performance-wise, my three favourites are, going chronologically, June 13, June 22 & June 26. June 13 has my favourite theremin section -- really controlled and haunting. June 22 has the best sound quality of those three, and it helps that it flows into the GOAT Achilles IMO.
  3. Providence is still my favourite show even with the crowd trouble in OTHAFA and the tape cuts, nice to see it getting some love! I don't think it's totally fair to judge Dazed with the size of the cut in the workout section -- it's quite possible that Page really let loose during the section that's missing. For me, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt given how well he plays the rest of the show.
  4. Yes, they did CB coming out of WLL for the encore on the 25th. Yeah, it sure would have been!
  5. They didn't play "Trampled Underfoot" or "Heartbreaker" on June 22. June 21 had HB, June 22 had IMTOD & OTHAFA -- the only '77 show with both -- and June 23 had TUF.
  6. Thank you, I really appreciate it! Glad you're enjoying them so far!
  7. Agreed, 9/29 is my favourite "Celebration Day" as well. I've seen people suggest that Plant is a weak link on the 29th, mainly as a justification for ranking the 23rd as the best of the tour. I can see what they mean a bit on "Immigrant Song," and he's not at the level he was in Copenhagen earlier in the year, but I agree with you that there really isn't anything to complain about at all, especially in the grand scheme of their touring history.
  8. I released my podcast episode covering this tour a few weeks ago and forgot to share it here. Here are the links: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/rock-talk-with-dr-cropper/id1518703647#episodeGuid=Buzzsprout-5699776 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5a7QeAodiQ20QemNGAJjtH?si=F2Wnz2wMSj2gzn9nljoICw Google: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5idXp6c3Byb3V0LmNvbS8xMTE5MjU0LnJzcw/episode/QnV6enNwcm91dC01Njk5Nzc2?sa=X&ved=0CAQQkfYCahcKEwi4sMnousPsAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQCQ This was the order I arrived at: September 29 - Osaka -- I really don't find Plant that bad, and certainly not distractingly so, after "Immigrant Song." I think this one is instrumentally superior to the others, although it's close. The best "Dazed And Confused" of the tour (and an all-time great at that), the one-off performance of "Friends" capping a potential best-ever acoustic set, the best "Moby Dick" of the tour (potential GOAT), the tightest/best-flowing "Whole Lotta Love" of the tour and the longest set of encores gave this one the edge. September 28 - Osaka -- Not far behind the following night at all. Very cool Dazed outro, acoustic set on par with the following night, longest ever WLL and the best setlist of the tour with the extras in the acoustic set, especially "Down By The Riverside," and "C'mon Everybody" and "Hi-Heel Sneakers" in the encores. September 23 - Tokyo -- Probably the most consistently energetic/explosive of the tour, and no doubt an all-time great, but I had to give the Osaka shows the edge due to the rarities and each of them being about 45 minutes longer. September 24 - Tokyo -- Certainly no slouch, Plant's best night of the tour, and likely a top 15 show of their career in its own right. September 27 - Hiroshima -- Doesn't deserve to get lost in the shuffle as much as it does, even though it is the fifth-best. Cool Dazed, better than the two Tokyo versions IMO.
  9. I definitely think it could've worked in the medleys. I've always been surprised that they never tried (to my knowledge at least) "Love Me." Plant has said that it's the one he singled out as his favourite Elvis song when they met him.
  10. Agreed. And with respect to Jones' volume vs. Lesh's volume, I think it could be more a result of Page playing, not being mixed, louder/more forcefully than Garcia and Weir and, more importantly, Bonham playing, not being mixed, much louder/more forcefully than Kreutzmann and Hart, as opposed to being a result of Lesh being turned up much higher for the Dead than Jones was for Zeppelin. Having listened to multiple soundboards of my band's shows when we were still together, I can tell you that how forcefully (or not) you play your instrument can have a big impact on the final volume, regardless of how the sound man mixes it all. Especially in the case of the drums. The sound man would have to turn Bonham way down in order to have Jones jumping out of the mix the way Lesh does on a typical Dead soundboard. And of course, the drums create a lot of volume of their own even without the mics and PA, so you can only "turn them down" so much.
  11. St. Paul '73 "Stairway To Heaven" has a really high note after Bonham's entrance but before the solo. Baltimore '73 is full of them.
  12. Yes indeed, his bass sounds awesome on that board as well! Coming out of the solo in OTHAFA 🔥🔥
  13. Better than May 17 in Tuscaloosa? May 13 is a great one as well!
  14. That makes sense. I'm a bit torn on the 23rd vs. 25th, but I think the 24th ranks fourth at best. It finishes really strong, but the first half is sluggish. Never understood the "No Quarter" from the 24th being cited as a potential best-ever version either.
  15. Can't argue with that when you're factoring in sound quality (excuses omitting June 19, 1972). Interesting that you put May 23 as your second '75 show. I would take March 12, 19 & 20 ahead of it and May 18 is my favourite Earls Court show.
  16. You would think. Yeah, I'm sure there are some. What's your full baker's dozen?
  17. I agree that Lesh's bass is more consistently well presented, but there are some Zepp boards where Jones' bass sounds similarly wonderful -- 3/19/75 Vancouver is a great example. P.S. If you want an even better Scarlet > Fire, try 5/17/77 Tuscaloosa...nine days after Cornell!
  18. I listened to every available recording from this tour for the first time this year for the 50th anniversary and ranked the shows as I went along. Details in the podcast episode below (28 minutes long): Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/rock-talk-with-dr-cropper/id1518703647?i=1000492257690 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/65cQNXisz9vNApJMpe1pWm?si=5WBOtvZbRDi4KmTwu6RHkg Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5idXp6c3Byb3V0LmNvbS8xMTE5MjU0LnJzcw/episode/QnV6enNwcm91dC01NTcwMTUy?sa=X&ved=0CAUQkfYCahcKEwiI5YPSoIDsAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQCQ September 19 - New York (Evening) September 2 - Oakland September 4 - Los Angeles September 19 - New York (Afternoon) September 3 - San Diego August 21 - Tulsa September 6 - Honolulu (Early) -- Only the truncated setlist holds it back September 9 - Boston August 31 - Milwaukee -- Would be higher with a more complete tape August 10 - Hampton August 15 - New Haven August 28 - Detroit -- From what can be deciphered through the rough tape, would probably be higher if complete
