  1. I keep thinking about the '98 tour and while jimmy was playing great, the audience was lining up for the bathroom and beer refills while they played their Clarksdale material. The cd didn't sell all that well either. Combination of disinterest from the newer generation of fans and material that just didn't live up to expectations. How could it? Touring on greatest hits from years gone past can't be something that would have befitted Zeppelin. Thanks to Robert for seeing that and resisting the money and ego kick. The last great song Jimmy wrote was Achilles and that was in '76.
  2. I quite disagree. John Paul Jones has never been better than he is now, in either his musicianship or creativity. Just wait until he releases The Goast Sonata until you make that judgement. Robert has continued to be creative as well even though his path has not been in expectation with many of his long time fans. Jimmy has been the only one who retired, which is fine too. I just wish he would comes to grip with it and stop leading naive people on.
  3. I personally doubt that jones ever thought to bring jimmy anywhere near them crooked vultures. Whatever happened between jones and page during their time together after the o2 was enough to put jimmy into retirement. The vocalist and the timing in which he was introduced seems like a lame excuse. My opinion is that jimmy could not grasp making music at jones's level and didn't want to embarrass himself anymore.
  4. Was probably too much for jimmy to take, being the lessor musician to jones and having him dictate the musical direction at a level that he could no longer reach.
  5. Totally agree. Led Zeppelin ceased to exist the day John Bonham died. Their is just no intelligent debate to the contrary. He meant that much to that band!!!
  6. For all the grief Robert gets for not reuniting he deserves double that in accolades. Just leave well enough alone.
  7. Michael Schenker what a talent he once was! Destroyed by his own choice one drink at a time.
  8. Cheap Trick played great at Saratoga Springs NY in July 88 and the crowd loved every minute of their set. Dream Police went over the best that I can remember. Plant and his band were terrific as well. In the evening, Black Country woman, and dimples were the highlights for me. An all around great show.
  9. I have no idea how I got hooked on Zeppelin, but I remember when. The early spring of 1985. At the time as a fourteen year old who grew up with Kiss I was interested in Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Ozzy, Van Halen and the rest of the hard rockers of the time. Never paid much attention to the "old" bands at the time. Somehow I kept hearing Communication Breakdown either on the radio or on friends boom boxes and was intrigued. I soon got a copy of Led Zeppelin 1 and was forever hooked. Soon after I had the rest of the albums and to my ears this was perfect rock music and the soundtrack to my teenage years. Once I heard some live shows I was out of my mind for Zeppelin. The power and grace this band demonstrated is a once in a lifetime event as far as i'm concerned. Even today into my forties I still follow everything I can Zeppelin related including the solo careers of it's members. The magic these men made musically I doubt will be topped in my lifetime, at least to my ears. I keep listening and looking for some band to come close but it hasn't happened yet.
  10. I really enjoy David's singing and early Whitesnake was terrific, especially Saints and Sinners and Slide it in. IMHO he turned into a total Robert Plant wannabe by 1987. The comments made by Robert in '88 '89 were totally on the mark. How in the world does he think RP was jealous of him in the late 80's? I say more like DC was jealous of RP. He was the ultimate Rock frontman in the 70's and DC wanted to be the 80's version for mtv. Robert could have had huge commercial success if he had gone the hard rock hair band route (alright in '88 he did). He chose the harder path instead with albums like Shaken and Stirred which took incredible courage with it's direction. Granted, Robert probably didn't need the money at this point of his career and David needed a payday so he did what he had to do. I wish DC would just take his medicine, he knew full well what he and the '87 version of Whitesnake were aiming at.
  11. very true, just wondering if their were ever any public news stories that touched upon the issue. If they were an american band in this day and age and got paid cash for their concerts the IRS would take a keen interest i'm sure. I have no idea what the British tax authorities are like.
  12. Steve, I enjoy your dead thread and am always curious about all things Zep. Did the band or management to your knowledge ever have any trouble with the government regarding taxes? Alot of cash was paid out for various "expenses" during the touring years. Did this ever get the band in trouble?
  13. I'm curious to know what happened to the material that was supposed to be on Outrider as part of the double album that Jimmy had talked about. I know that tapes were stolen from his home around that time but, what about the songs? Has Jimmy ever mentioned bringing the ideas to his project with David Coverdale or Robert when they did Clarksdale or did he just abandon the Outrider outtakes?
  14. Steve, While it is well known that JPJ contemplated leaving the band in '73 or so, and Robert is unsure of his musical future by '77, '78, have there ever been to your knowledge credible reports that John Bonham ever hinted or talked about leaving Zeppelin?
  15. Must of had Thin Lizzy on the mind for some reason, UFO it was.
  16. What band was Jason in before Healing Sixes? My memory fails me. I think he played with Thin Lizzy and Foreigner after Healing Sixes.
  17. Ross may not be his official spokesperson. If you believe his diary, that he spends as much time as he claims with Jimmy then it is assumed that they are pretty close. Ross knows good well what he is doing in this world of blogs and internet forums. Jimmy has to have some knowledge of it. Personally I think he is just having a good laugh and being sarcastic with all the nasty comments. If his blog did not have Jimmy sightings and a little drama nobody would look at it and he knows it.
  18. Exactly my point. I never said Jimmy pre approves all of Ross's comments. It's my opinion if Jimmy doesn't want it up, it goes away and vice versa.
  19. Jimmy has to be aware and sanctions Ross's comments that are Zep related. I truly believe Ross wouldn't put anything on his site that Jimmy would be upset about. They are both probably having a huge laugh seeing the reaction on sites such as this.
  20. Children of the Sea, Black Sabbath. Ronnie James Dio all this week and next. The world lost one of it;s treasures .
  21. Too bad Jimmy never hooked up with the late great Ronnie James Dio. That could have been special.
  22. With the passing of the late great Ronnie James Dio I checked out Sabbath again for the first time in twenty years. Wow, I didn't remember at all, what a great band they really were back in the day. Mob Rules is currently on my ipod and will be for a while. Stargazer from Rainbow was also an unexpected revelation as to how great Ronnie was as a singer. my 2 cents.
  23. Well said. I think Jason could do better. He has done the tribute to his father years ago. well into his forties now I'd like to see Jason branch out a little bit.
