  1. Anybody catch the livestream concerts this weekend? What a great idea!
  2. Going to see Muse at Oakland Arena April 14, with Evanescence and another band.
  3. So sad all the tragedies that happened to Skynyrd. Having said that, lately I've been listening to Blackfoot, Rickey Medlocke's band that he was in before and after Skynyrd. Their song "Highway Song" I realized is an early version of "Free Bird," and I like it better.
  4. "Trees" has some of the greatest rock lyrics ever.
  5. So, I have another recommendation request: A reconstituted version of Black Flag is playing in April in Petaluma, which is just 25 minutes up the road and no toll and no parking garage...Anybody seen this iteration of them? And I WILL wear earplugs!
  6. Well, in 1982 I went to see Heart, which was one of my favorite bands at the time. Their show sucked. I don't recall now what was wrong except Ann Wilson stood literally in one spot the entire night and they all seemed disengaged from each other and just basically played their hits w/ no improv. As for San Francisco, I don't live there, and although it's not far, it does mean 40 minutes of driving each way, a bridge toll, and the cost of a parking garage.
  7. Thanks! That was the type of info I was looking for.
  8. I was thinking of getting a ticket to see The Heavy, playing at a club in San Francisco this spring, but I've never been to one of their shows, although I like their songs. Anyone been to one of their shows? I'm wondering how they are live.
  9. Recent films I liked: "Nope", "She Said," "Banshees of Inisherin." "Top Gun Maverick" was boring and I couldn't sit through "Everything Everywhere all at Once." Yet look at what got nominated for Oscars....
  10. I'm glad I finally got to see him live in 2016. I enjoyed the "Beck and Bones" album. It was definitely rock, none of this jazz fusion stuff that I don't particularly care for.
  11. If anyone had any lingering doubts about Russia's monstrous behavior in Ukraine: https://www.wsj.com/articles/in-ukraines-occupied-south-russia-tries-to-build-loyalty-to-putin-11655733721?st=0ds73amvyc3bkks&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink
  12. Celebrities admitting to drug or alcohol addiction was unusual before Betty Ford. Before then it was considered shameful to admit you had a problem. Thanks for the stories and photos!
  13. Interesting essay in WSJ today: https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-putin-puzzle-russia-ukraine-war-office-power-depose-elites-defense-oil-11654630616?st=ya6ml6078fmtg4x&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink If anyone's still reading this thread, I thought they might like a break from the doctored photos supplied by "John Osbourne."
  14. I thought this story from the WSJ was so interesting...illustrates how easily events can be propagandized, as well as the tragedy of so many people who used to live in the Soviet Union: https://www.wsj.com/articles/a-ukrainian-woman-greeted-troops-with-a-soviet-flag-now-she-tells-putin-to-stop-killing-ukrainians-11653816640?st=ygmlu5ceu3jqbg8&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink
  15. Saw Paul McCartney May 6 at the Oakland arena. I was never a huge Beatles fan, although I was a Wings fan when I was 12 and 13. But it was a fun show as I knew it would be. Paul's voice is weak, but I didn't care and I'm pretty sure no one else did. I heard some tunes I'd never heard before, and he did some of the hard rock tunes e.g. Helter Skelter in the encore. I felt like his band was deliberately trying to drown him out a couple times, perhaps because his voice was a bit shaky, and this was unfortunate.
  16. Putin isn't sustainable, fortunately. But I'm sure "John" can find a new gig. And I'm starting to wonder if you might be a Russian troll as well...I had thought you were just a curmudgeon who is seduced by fringe conspiracy theories.
  17. Might want to look up the dictionary definition of sarcasm.
  18. Insults, the last resort of the troll.
  19. The fact is we won. And the lofty British Empire, in case you didn't notice, is no more.
  20. Ukraine has been fighting wars for its independence for many decades. We only had to rebel against a small country separated from us by an ocean. It was a lot easier.
  21. Glenn Greenwald is a Russian stooge, possibly an agent.
  22. "Historically" the US is a colony of Great Britain. LOL! We even speak the same language.
