  1. Stairway to Heaven has the beautiful melody...interesting that the consensus here seems to be The Rain Song; the general population would probably pick Stairway... In second place for me would be either Battle of Evermore, because of the wonderful duet w/ Plant and Denny, Going to California because Robert sings so well on it, Since I've Been Loving You, or Bron-Yr-Aur. The Rain Song has always sounded slightly dissonant to me, which makes it interesting, but beautiful maybe not the right word.
  2. I'm willing to listen and give feedback if wanted...
  3. I ate lunch at a delicious Turkish restaurant in my neighborhood, then went to the Frick museum to see some late Medieval/early Renaissance art...had to stand in line as I went during the "pay what you wish" hours, but it was a short line and an interesting exhibit...sadly did not run into Jimmy Page, who has been in NYC the past few days for some reason...
  4. I've been promoted to "Zep Head" here.
  5. Thanks slavetozep! I like your leather studded bracelets, fenix...did you make the rest of the outfit yourself?
  6. Here I am last Saturday in New Orleans, at the corner of Royal and Orleans streets...I hope this doesn't count as double posting, as I put the photo on the New Orleans thread as well, along with some other pics of the city...
  7. I was thinking that too; I could (theoretically) see Clapton in NYC, depending on how much I would be willing to shell out for tickets...thanks for telling me about the New Orleans thread; I checked it out--too many videos to see...I hope my pics come out!
  8. Hmm. Maybe "Tiny Purple Fishes" from the Cream song...always loved that line...unfortunately it might make people think it was a cover band... Or "Suspicious Package," and we would do a cover of the Doors' "Five to One."
  9. I thought about getting a ticket to the Clapton concert, I saw it wasn't sold out, but I went to NOLA by myself and since I don't know my way around, was too intimidated to go to a major rock concert by myself in a strange city. I heard a lot of live music though. Live music is everywhere in the French Quarter--in all the bars, in the street, everywhere. There's usually no cover, the liquor is cheap, people are friendly. I also went to Preservation Hall to hear some traditional jazz, which was fun even though it isn't my favorite type of music...I stayed in a hotel right in the French Quarter, just down from the corner of Royal and Orleans streets.
  10. I just got back from New Orleans and it was a blast! I have never been anywhere like it! If anyone is interested, I may post pics--however I used a film camera, so they aren't ready.
  11. Speaking only for myself, I would rather these threads not be posted. I would rather just see the pics with a sentence of explanation. It's obvious both Plant and Page have had issues with women; let's hope they've sorted out those issues, perhaps through therapy, and if so, I'm sure Robert Plant would not want to see this thread here. I don't care about this woman and as a woman, I find it almost embarrassing that there are or were women who had nothing going on in their lives and thought the only thing they could do that would be significant would be to have sex with and hang out with famous people.
  12. I read some Eudora Welty short stories a long time ago and remember liking them...never got around to reading Flannery O'Connor. I've been reading "The Culture of Narcissism," Christopher Lasch's book from 1979 that I never got around to reading before. It's interesting to read a critique of the 70s 34 years later...also recently read "Cloud Atlas" by David Mitchell, which is one of the best novels I've read in a long time.
  13. This story is sad and pathetic. One wonders about possible fallout that we don't know about.
  14. In 2007 they were leaving it unchanged: Later they apparently switched singers and I don't like the new one...the one in 2007 was pretty good, I thought.
  15. I was beginning to wonder if the other people on this thread recognized that it's a dyke band! I hate the idea of a "tribute" band (although I suppose Zep does collect royalties from them) but in this case, I can see what it's about: It's probably an empowerment exercise, dykes get to sing "Black Dog," "You Shook Me," etc...and I'm sure it's a big hit in the dyke community!
  16. I wouldn't mix up the songs...I distinctly remember that the first Zep song I heard was Stairway to Heaven, and that I heard it on my transistor radio on the weekend, and that I would listen to the same radio show the following weekend so that I could hear it again...I remember that I was amazed by it because it didn't sound like any of the other songs being played, being two to three times as long and having the different sections, building up toward the end; it seemed more like a classical symphony...I'm going to try to do some more research...
  17. I'd hate to think my memory is confusing things...but now I'll have to rethink what I'm remembering--maybe it was some other sort of radio program...
  18. The first time I ever heard Zep was on Casey Kasem's Top 40 Countdown...back in '74 or '75..."Stairway to Heaven" was in the top 40, even though it was several years after the album release...I'm almost positive the Top 40 was all singles..yet I've read Stairway was never released as a single, so how is this possible? I think it MUST have been released as a single, at least in the US. Can anyone clear up this mystery?
  19. Good luck! I've had major surgery twice...everything turned out ok...
  20. I'm listening to Tchaikovsky...if you don't usually listen to classical music, you could start out with a CD/MP3 called "Essential Tchaikovsky" which has excerpts of his "greatest hits." It is so beautiful..
  21. Well I must say this conversation is entertaining! ..IMO, the DVD was quite enjoyable, even transporting...yes, there were some parts that seemed off, but a live performance is always unpredictable; that's part of what makes it exciting. Mistakes happen in many kinds of live performances--Olympic ice skaters fall, dancers screw up steps and sometimes musicians slip up too...I thought it was thrilling to see the guys perform together after hardly performing as a group in more than 25 years...I didn't expect them to be perfect. In fact it was much better than I thought it would be. I think the best part, for me anyway, was seeing people who mean so much to me get back into it and ENJOY themselves!
  22. I basically agree with the critiques by Amstel and Mckjuana...ITTOD is my least favorite of the albums, but, I do own it and listen to it from time to time...I have to be in the mood for it..."All My Love" is possibly the only Zeppelin song I don't like (well maybe I don't like "The Crunge" either--too abrasive for me)...I think I never liked "All My Love" because it sounded too much like the pop songs I was hearing on the radio at the time, in 1979...and then it was a hit, and I was hearing it over and over on the radio, which did not increase its appeal...
