  1. Hybrid picking is when you use a pick, but also pluck with your other fingers at the same time. Page uses it to great effect during TSRTS and STH. Watch TSRTS from the film. During the solo, when we're not watching Plant ride ashore on his boat, lol. The pulloffs are a hybrid of picked notes and the middle finger doing the pulloffs.

O.K. I've been doing that already. Just never heard the term before.

  2. This is the first Zeppelin song I learned to play completely. I actually had to step back for awhile and learn to finger pick. It also works well on BIGLY and the Stairway intro.

I do wonder if I'm the only one who can't play it up to speed. I have to play it several times just to get warmed up.

Forgot to ask. What the hell is hybrid picking?

  3. I just picked up my first Marshall tube amp and remembered this thread. Occasionally someone else asks the same questions so thought it was worth a bump. BTW. My modeling amp has been banished to the box and up for sale.;)

I can see I'm already going the wrong direction. Gotta turn the gain and bass down to start with. I recall another thread involving the tone/volume controls as well. My question is how did Jimmy dirty it up when needed? Switch channels? Volume/Tone controls? Pedal? All of the above?

As fond as I am of our brothers in the U.K. I'd have to say there seems to be some kind of musical idiocy going on over there. :(
