  1. Robert Plant is not only against LZ getting getting back together, he's also against, and looks down upon other bands that do and has had the nerve to call them out on it...repeatedly. Remember when he commented on the Eagles getting back together? Plant: "the only reason they're getting back together is because they must be bored...'Im not bored'." That really pissed off Don Henley and he responded accordingly. Robert Plant is Jimmy Page's Frankenstein...
  2. Page is also doing runs and phrasings I've never heard him do before either. I think NQ & STH from 3/21/75 are both really special and unique performances.
  3. He meant 'musically'. Found the interview. Go to 37:00 - 39:00
  4. Shortly after Knebworth, JJ Jackson interviewed both Plant & Jones and Plant clearly states that if he is going stay with LZ, "its gonna have to get more mellow". Juxtaposition that with Page saying the next album would be "more rocking than ITTOD" and one can see that Plant wouldn't be sticking around unless he himself was now steering the direction of the band. That was never gonna happen, so it was basically over. Maybe they would have put out 1 more album if the ill-fated 1980 North American tour had went well, but Plant was already movin' on down the road mentally either way. Wish I could find this interview but can't locate it. Plant elaborates on this quite a bit...
  5. This performance blows me away every time I listen to it!
  6. Nice catch man! That went right over my head. Did you happen to notice the 'marks' on Emma's new friends (next victim) hand at the dinner table that Camille stared at?
  7. Captain & Tennille - Muskrat Love...and I have no fucking idea why? I dare ya!
  8. Personally, I love Page's contribution to the record. Every solo on the record fits the mood of each song perfectly and are very well thought out. From the searing ITE, to the reckless SBS, the fun Hot Dog, to the frolicking FITR, and it ends with Page's most sublime solo ever on IGC. I love his minimalistic playing on AML because it enhances the song and is just so damn tasteful it sticks in your head forever. Never been crazy about his 'guitars' in Carousel though to tell you the truth, and they were also fairly well buried in the mix for probably the same reason Plants vocals were. Yes, the production got a little murky with Carousel & ITE but other than that the production is pretty damn solid IMHO. Oh yeah, the only thing I've ever really liked about ITE is the intro and the solo, the rest to me qualifies as LZ's most uninteresting song along with the most uninspired and plodding playing by Bonham ever. I blame it on JPJ though because that repetitive riff during the verses just doesn't leave a drummer much to work with, and 'no'...Jimmy's wang bar dives doesn't make it any less monotonous.
  9. ^ Man, the lyrics to Carouselambra are so ambiguous that the vocals could have been pushed up much higher in the mix and it wouldn't have made a difference in deciphering what these lyrics are about, or not about. I seriously can't imagine Page purposely burying the vocals in order to prevent the listener from hearing what is probably Plant's most vague and ambiguous lyrics ever. Yes, Plant says "the whole story of LZ in its latter years is in that song", and if thats the case, he certainly disguised it to the point that only he himself could really know what these lyrics were about. The reason I think Plants vocals were placed directly in the mix as opposed to above it is because it is undoubtably the weakest vocal track on the album in relation to the other songs. They're very mysterious, but not really put together that well (much like the song itself) IMHO. I've always viewed Carouselambra as a bold experiment musically. The lyrics for me are always an afterthought when it comes to Zeppelin. The delivery, attitude and vibe are the only things that 'really' matter. Too much thinking can be a bad thing
  10. I guess these kids never heard of codeine pills and Jack Daniels. How many fingers do you need to play drums anyways?
  11. I never knew Mickey Thomas did the vocals on this amazing song. This live performance even surpasses the studio track...the singing is...fucking brilliant.
  12. At 19:50 Freddy Bannister talks about how LZ was supposed to play at the first Knebworth Festival in 1974.
  13. Kevin Shirley 2003 interview: "The material from the Royal Albert Hall show [1970] was recorded on eight-track one-inch tape," Shirley elaborates. "There were the two Californian shows [from 1972] that ended up on How The West Was Won, three Madison Square Garden shows [1973] and five Earls Court shows [1975]. These were all recorded on 16-track two-inch tape. Finally there were two Knebworth shows [1979] on 24-track two-inch tape." (Shirley did not work on the 'Extras' on the DVD, which contain mono soundtracks that came with the images.) Shirley eventually loaded all the material from the multitrack tapes into his Pro Tools HD system at 24-bit, 96kHz, using the system's own converters, making sure that he captured that precious first pass of the tape past the heads in one go. After the multitrack material was safely transferred into Pro Tools, Shirley made rough stereo mixes of everything, and he and Page spent hours listening and making "copious notes. He knew more about which performances he liked, and I made notes about what was pertinent to my job, ie. more technical issues. But I think since I'm a producer as well, I was a good foil for Jimmy. He used me to bounce things off."
  14. All 5 of the Earls Court concerts were multi tracked.
  15. Well, he's certainly got the man boobs to go along with it, so what the hell.
  16. The first song 'Sweet Emotion' is just amazing! I'm kinda blown away at how good Tyler sounds and looks. Possibly the coolest 70 yr old man on the planet?
