  1. 25th Oct 1968, Led Zeppelin appeared at the Battersea campus of Surrey University, England. Formerly the Battersea Polytechnic Institute, the concert took place in the Great Hall of the Battersea Park Road site, a 19-century Listed building founde in 1891 and designed by architect E. W. Mountford. Although there are unconfirmed reports of earlier shows, this appears to be the band's first gig with their new name (after initially performing as The New Yardbirds). In 2003 a poster for the gig (billing the group as The New Yardbirds) sold at auction for £2,400.

  2. 16th Oct 2010,

Auburn University graduate student Justin Havird named a new species of fish, Lepidocephalichthys zeppelini, because the fish's pectoral fin reminded him of the double-neck guitar used by Jimmy Page.""I'm a big Led Zeppelin fan, and I was listening to them while I was working on the fish," Havird said. "The structure that makes this species unique just reminded me of the guitar that Jimmy Page played".

  3. ‎8th Oct 1971, 'Led Zeppelin II' was enjoying its 100th week on the UK album charts. It was the band's first album to hit No.1 in the US, knocking The Beatles' 'Abbey Road' twice from the top spot, where it remained for seven weeks. When first released the album had advance orders of 400,000 copies in the USA, (the advertising campaign was built around the slogan 'Led Zeppelin II Now Flying').

  4. ‎7th Oct 1999, 'Stairway To Heaven' by Led Zeppelin was voted at No. 1 in Classic Rock magazines 'Ten Best... Songs Ever!' reader's poll. 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen was voted in at No. 2 and 'Freebird' by Lynyrd Skynyrd was No. 3. Zeppelin also had 'Kashmir' at No. 23 and 'Whole Lotta Love' at No.30.

  5. 25th Sept 1980,

John Bonham, drummer with Led Zeppelin, died aged 32 after a heavy drinking session. ‘Bonzo’ was found dead at guitarists Jimmy Page's house of what was described as asphyxiation, after inhaling his own vomit after excessive vodka consumption, (40 shots in 4 hours). During live sets his drum solo, ‘Moby Dick,’ would often last for half an hour and regularly featured his use of his bare hands.

    14th Sept 1974,

All four members of Led Zeppelin attended the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Joni Mitchell gig at Wembley Stadium, London, England. Later that evening, at Quaglino's Restaurant in St. James Place, Jimmy Page and John Bonham jammed at the after-show party with Neil Young, Graham Nash and Stephen Stills. I would've paid good money to see that!

    December 10, 2007

On September 12, 2007, London concert promoter Harvey Goldsmith made legions of music and Led Zeppelin fans ecstatic when he announced that the band would reform and play a tribute concert to raise money for the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund. Ertegun signed the band back in the ’60s, and had died in 2006.

The show at London’s O2 Arena was due to take place on November 26 but Jimmy Page’s injured hand delayed proceedings until this day in 2007.

Getting the individual band members to agree on the performance took time and persuasion and, in the end, came down to music. David Campbell, president of AEF Europe and therefore in charge of the O2 Arena, took Zeppelin to the venue to see an Elton John concert, as he told Gigwise.

“We were going through [the venue] with the band, and [Jimmy Page] said, ‘I bet it doesn’t sound any good up there.’ So, with all of them, as well as Harvey [Goldstein] and myself, we took the elevator up to Level 4 to go to the very top of the building to have a listen.

“Someone held the elevator, and we were sort of standing there waiting for them to go. They just put their thumbs up, and sort of smiled at each other. That’s when Harvey and I knew that this was going to be OK. Then, John Paul Jones started running up and down the stairs; and that was it.”

The Sunday Times called the much-desired reunion ticket “the hottest… of the century so far” with only 9,000 pairs available that were drawn from 1 million online applicants worldwide at $200 each.

Those lucky enough to witness history started their evening with Bill Wyman, and his Rhythm Kings as well sets by Paul Rodgers, Foreigner, Maggie Bell and Ertegun’s final signing, Paolo Nutini.

And so, on the night of December 10, 2007, the surviving members of Led Zeppelin reunited for a one-off benefit with Jason Bonham taking his late father’s place on drums.

Hamish McBain was there for London’s NME.

“Jimmy Page is lit up by lasers and at the song’s climax Robert Plant yells out ‘Jimmy Page on electric guitar!’ in a moment that resonates right back to their first gigs in the late ’60s,” he wrote. “‘Stairway To Heaven’ follows. Ridiculous in many ways, it’s still a song that everyone present thought was fated to only be performed by dodgy pub covers bands and not again by its creators. Playing this well-known classic proves a shrewd move, as it gently reminds everyone present just which giant-sized rock band they’re dealing with.

“‘Kashmir’ finishes the main set sounding incredible before the band take a bow and they’re gone. Rapturous applause follows as you might expect, but its nothing compared to the sheer mania that greets the first encore song ‘Whole Lotta Love.’ Not many bands have one of those, you see.

“If there were skeptics here tonight – there weren’t but just for the sake of argument consider it – Led Zeppelin silenced them and banished any rotten memories of their shambolic Live Aid reunion. More importantly, though, what they have done here tonight is prove that they can still perform to the level that originally earned them their legendary reputation.”

Or, as Robert Plant said during the show, “Hey, Ahmet. We did it.
