I think our expectations of how good a '75 or '77 soundboard can sound need to be revised upwards now that they can easily be remixed into stereo. Here's a sample of No Quarter from the 3/21/75 show. Having the guitar panned into both the left and right channels is a choice that I went with because I liked how it sounds, but it could as easily been placed in just the right channel like a traditional live album, similar to what I did for the 3/14/69 remaster below. The cool thing is that once you have the instruments separated from each other, there are lots of creative things that can be done with them. I'm not sure this kind of thing will ever be good enough for Jimmy to consider releasing, but I'm guessing other bands will be looking at their back catalog of soundboards and seeing an opportunity. And before anyone asks, I'm still working on the 3/21/75  show so I don't have links for it yet.

Could the instrument separation help with some of the '69 shows such as 1/11 San Francisco where the recording is clear but Robert is way up front? Or opposite situations where Robert is buried? Is this similar to the reverse engineering which Abbey Road Studio has been working on or is this something different? Thank you

People new to bootlegs usually prefer soundboards because they're closer to the dynamics of a live album and are easier to focus on. In time you'll learn to appreciate the realistic sound and authentic atmosphere of audience recordings. You really have to imagine yourself being in the crowd and not just focus on sound clarity.

    Good post!

I just want to give my humble opinion, I hope I don't offend anyone.

I feel I have no right to ask Jimmy Page for any more things. I think what he's done with the Super Deluxe boxes is fantastic.

So far, I only have 'I' through 'Presence' (all individually numbered), and I hope to complete the collection. For me (and I suppose many others) they are relics, the holy grails. Here in the third world, our salaries are much lower, and products such as Super Deluxe boxes and everything imported, we pay three or four times the value it actually costs. Maybe, because of this, I appreciate all these things more.

I know that you also have the right to claim more records (I would love that too). But I know that some have seen Led Zeppelin live, or Page/Plant. I feel pretty lucky to see Robert Plant three times (twice in 2012 and once in 2015, also playing 'The Lemon Song' with Jack White).

One of the saddest days of my life was in 2007, when I was 17 years old and I knew I wouldn't be going to the O2 in London. I remember that I had to get an email in order to have a chance to buy a ticket... I never got it, and my mother had told me that if I got the email, she would ask for a bank loan to buy the ticket and travel to London.

Most of you are very lucky!

    Long Live Led Zeppelin!

    Good post!

  4. This is such a waste of time. I really hope beyond playing the tracks themselves that someone is smart enough to play for the jury the plethora of examples of composers, who were alive long before the members of Spirit and Zeppelin, using chromatic phrases. Neither of these two groups "invented" chromaticism and cannot own the technique. They can use it to write songs but one cannot claim they stole it from the other because as some other people have stated on here they both "stole" it from the classical maestros before them. Its so crazy how this drags on because yes Spirit can bring in experts that can point out similarities but those experts, if thats what they really are, can cite examples of the use earlier, way earlier.

is this still going on? how long is Jason gonna milk this?

DO YOUR OWN THING!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

You know ive been thinking the same thing... And plus if they are tight knit and are able to write together ... Even if it "sounds" similar to Zep they would be a cool retro sounding group

Since I cannot edit my original post any longer, I would like to mention another band which I really love: Fleetwood Mac (the original with Peter Green).

Kiwi in my time on this forum I find it so awesome how our music tastes are so much the same (along with some other folks on here like Stryder and Sath). I was hanging out with some acquaintances one day who were dogging on early Fleetwood Mac and lets just say I didnt hang out with them much longer. Kudos on the Peter Green love ... Next to Jimmys les paul that Peter Green Les paul sound is so sweet and nasty. Cheers!!!

  7. I have no quotes to back this up however i do seem to remember a bootleg could be wrong though but it was bonham who was never too thrilled with The Ocean... I love the riff but it can be a bit repetitive and that part he didnt like .. Someone will be along shortly to correct me ;-)

My ears are still ringing cosmic_juice! Fookin' loud as hell...up there with the Motörhead, Buzzcocks and Swans shows I saw in the last couple years. Steve McDonald, who I have seen forever since his teenage days with Redd Cross, is now playing bass with The Melvins.

I'll have to check out Redd Cross... That Melvins bass spot is a revolving door. So envious i havent seen Sleep yet but really want to
