  1. It's all in the past though. Everything now is limited to business disagreements. They really do get along now.
  2. I haven't heard of them fighting since before Entwistle died.
  3. The best book in my opinion is Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere. It's co-written by Matt Kent, which for those not in the know means it's AMAZING. It gives you a chapter for each year of their existence (up until Moon's death) and even has day by day logs of their activities. You can't beat it.
  4. Roger's first few solo albums aren't for everybody, as they are more Beatles-styled pop than Who-styled rock (and coming from Daltrey, it's strange). For Daltrey beginners, I'd recommend starting with "Under A Raging Moon." At that point he was doing a less raw, safer, yet still interesting version of the Who's sound.
  5. There's several reasons why you should aim for those. 1) The deluxe editions come from the best possible sources (a problem with earlier releases). These are far richer, resonant mixes. The best available remasters. 2) There is a cavalcade of great extra tracks on all deluxe editions (not just the Who's, literally ALL). 3) They are very well packaged with great liner notes.
  6. You already have Quad, so I'd recommend getting the following in the order listed: 1) Who's Next (if you can, get the deluxe edition) 2) Live At Leeds (again, if possible get the deluxe edition) 3) Tommy (again... deluxe) 4) The Who Sell Out 5) The Who By Numbers
  7. The soundtrack is still worth having. "Get Out And Stay Out" is ridiculously awesome, and it's not on the original album.
  8. Shwartzman definitely has a striking resemblance to Moon.
  9. Great, the more the better. There needs to be a free alternative to the official site.
  10. There's a great Who forum that I hope a lot of you visit and become active members of. Here's the link: http://whochat.proboards35.com/index.cgi
  11. Well I'm glad you've had a better experience than I have. However, I'm still confident I haven't gotten my money's worth, hence why I won't be renewing.
  12. Agreed. I just talked to another person today who hates what the site is and will not be renewing their subscription (somewhat pricey at $50). It's shit, especially when compared to this site, which not only destroys thewho.com in quality, but is FREE! He just doesn't blog anymore. Here's the last thing we got from the blog: Not only are we being told to piss off and not contribute, but the next most recent blog post was on the 23rd of April! It's sad that this is the Who's presence on the internet. I wish there was a decent fan forum somewhere, but the only ones out there are highly inactive.
  13. I wrote earlier about how the Who's official site "fan club" has some major problems. Here is an update, and it's not pretty: 1) The site and it's moderators have in several cases pulled membership for selling the items that come with the purchase (the CD of live tracks, and the t-shirt). This is despite the fact that it has been brought up to them that this violates the free trade market. 2) One of the site's main attractions, Pete's blog, has been almost completely dormant. Anyone who has expressed dismay over this has been harshly warned not to again express discontent with the site, and several memberships have been pulled over this. 3) The promise of first chance at tickets for Who concerts and events, such as the upcoming Who Rock Honors, has proved to be a farce. There were few tickets available, only a small group of people who know the site moderators received them, and the site moderators have threatened ticket cancellation and membership withdrawal if someone with tickets tries to sell them. I love the Who, and I wanted so badly to like their website and fan club, but it's the most horribly run fan club I've ever heard or been a part of. I highly recommend that anyone interested in the site DOES NOT join. The only way it'll ever get better is people withdraw their financial support.
  14. If you desire, I have a digital copy of that Spokane show. As previously stated, the quality isn't special. This is purely for the historical record.
  15. The Raconteurs are decent, but they just don't sound as dangerous or as edgy as the White Stripes.
  16. Let's just agree to love them both.
  17. Depending on my mood I do as well. I couldn't choose.
  18. A Quick One is still a great album. The Who's run of great consecutive studio albums rivals that of Zeppelin and other greats. My Generation, A Quick One, The Who Sell Out, Tommy, Who's Next and Quadrophenia (not to mention Live At Leeds, the greatest live album of all time, is mashed in between Tommy and Who's Next). Those six studio albums are on par with Led Zeppelin I, II, III, IV, HOTH and PG in my personal opinion (as well as many critics). I hope this thread raises the level of appreciation for them on this site.
  19. The Who By Numbers has very good production IMO and has some absolutely brilliant tracks. Most people know about Slip Kid, However Much I Booze, and Squeeze Box but there's still They Are All In Love, Dreaming From The Waist and the absolutely uber-awesome How Many Friends. A Quick One's production isn't poor necessarily, producers of rock artists were aping the style of the Beatles, and at this early stage the Who hadn't yet taken full control of that aspect of their music. I will agree with you though that the production hurts it in some places since it sounds dated.
  20. It's ridiculously good and heavily under appreciated, although that's starting to change.
  21. After my first listen, I'm impressed, but the songs haven't fully formed in my mind yet. At this stage, I prefer the last White Stripes release over this, but it's really unfair to judge so soon.
  22. I saw them in the Summer of 2006. I could not recommend them more.
