John Bonham was the TRUE leader in this band.

You're right, Katie4pagey, you certainly have the right to share your opinions and to debate/argue as much as you want too. -

Good post, Badgeholder Still. In truth, we forum members shouldn't be arguing over issues like this. As we all know, the band and it's legacy are presently under increasingly heavy fire from outsiders--from the "enemies of greatness" (lol)--on a number of different fronts--i.e.--the mostly spurious plagiarism allegations, etc. So, if we're going to waste our time engaging in heated/divisive arguments with anyone at all, it should be with these people, not with each other. I'd like to make one point. Led Zep could have continued-on without Bonham after 1980. It certainly wouldn't have been the same band post '80, and the band certainly wouldn't have been as great, but the three surviving members could have hired a new drummer and continued on as Led Zep. But now imagine, just for a second, an alternative scenario: What if Page had died in 1980? If that had occurred, it's impossible to imagine that the band could have continued on--the idea would have been inconceivable. -

Well put, Katie4pagey. Your analysis on this thread has been 100 percent spot-on. -
I'm Jewel Raven, lol. I like the Jewel part, (the singer) and the Raven part, too. (Edgar Allen Poe) Poe is my favorite horror writer, and one of my all-time favorite authors. I live less than 15 miles from one of his former homes, where he wrote some of his stories and poems.

I've been wondering why Harvard and Yale haven't honored him yet. :-)

I agree with you, of course, but I also know that many women find Zep "too heavy." (Or too loud, raunchy, low-brow, etc.) When such women are exposed to the softer side of Zep, their opinions can change--a lot.

So true.

Thanks for providing us with your expert fire safety/survival advice. I'd seen part of this video before, but never the whole thing. Hard to watch.

Play the mellower songs for her: The ones mentioned in juxtiphi's post above are excellent choices. The Rain Song is also good.

I just discovered this thread. Any hardcore SEC fans here? I didn't graduate from an SEC school, but I have quite a few friends/relatives who did--from Florida, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss and Vandy.

The English accent is VERY sexy when spoken by a beautiful girl. The English speak with such precision and perfect enunciation. (I'm thinking primarily of the London accent, I suppose. I happened to catch a Vivian Leigh/Laurence Olivier film a few nights ago--Wow!)

If anyone here is aware of a Zep tribute band whom makes an honest attempt to recreate a live Zep show--complete with improvs and jams--please let me know. Years ago I remember reading about a certain Zep tribute band who was (apparently) putting on shows where they attempted to re-create TSRTS note for note. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the band, but I'd like to see them if they're still around.

Hello ledastray. Welcome to the forum.

It fascinates me how the English language came to be the world's most dominant language. It is THE language of many different disciplines and fields of endeavor: Commerce, science, pop/rock music, etc, etc. I understand the process by which this took place: Commerce and Colonization, (the sun never sets on the British Empire, etc.) and the preeminence of British popular culture (Beatles, etc.) but it's still remarkable that a small island country perched high up in the North Atlantic produced the world's most dominant language. (much to the annoyance of the French).

musings about the Fabulous Fifties and the softer Sixties
Pagefan55 replied to Melanie Hiscock's topic in Ramble On
Hello Melanie. I may be naive, but I always thought "I Saw Her Standing There" was a sweet, innocent song. Also, I don't think a song being (perhaps) a little bit creepy necessarily equates with it having or promoting "nasty sexism and glorification of violent attitudes toward girls." Could you name for us 10 or so songs that you believe contain or convey this theme? -

It's a song by Keane called "Silenced By the Night." I have been hearing this song for months everywhere I go--restaurants, stores, malls, etc. Last night, I was having dinner with my girlfriend in a chain restaurant when the song came on again, and I suddenly realized, "Wow! I really like this song!" I asked my girlfriend who does it, and she replied, "I LOVE this song. It's by an English band called Keane." I can't get the lyrics out of my head, "You and I, we're going to rise again!!"
