  1. How right the two boys in the picture were in the end, lol! These boys became the best rock guitar player and singer you could wish for..... I always like seeing Robert and Jimmy together. It's the contrast between them. Blonde/dark, outgoing/more mysterious. Well, you get the point, they indeed are and light and shade.......
  2. First of all, I wish everyone who is going through harder times the strength to overcome it..... I can't hide my worries about my mom. Last thursday she had a hip replacement operation. Since she waited quite long (too long....), before actually having the surgery, her rehab will take longer than usual, when she can leave the hospital, she'll need to check into a rehad-facility, where she will receive the physical therapy she needs. I know, eventually she will (quite litterally in the case) get back on her feet again, but as a familly (me, stepdad, stepbrother, stepsister and sister) we are still bummed she needs to go to a rehab facility for 4 weeks (max 6 weeks.....)......
  3. Early Zep days, Jimmy and his dragon telecaster. Ah yes......., Jimmy giving it his all....... This one is kind of different, but I somehow like it......
  4. Well, has nothing to do with age or being grumpy. It's just plain true. It's a good thing, that I see kids/teens these days joining bandcoaching projects. However, it's amazing what kind of gear these kids have. They own guitars, amps and other gear I will certaintly not have the money for..... I own a G&L ASAT Bluesboy semi hollow (basically a Tele Thinline), a Yamaha Pacifica and an Ovation Celebrity, My amp is a Fender Mustang 1. Off course I would love to own incredible vintage gear, but even this working girl can't pay for that........ The Ovation used to belong to my stepbrother, I've had the Yamaha since my teens and only recently purchased the G&L OK, so my gear is not the best of the best. I think one of the things with truly making music, is making the most of the instrumentation you actually have or can afford. Kids/teens today hardly learn to play with emotion/feel, it's all about showing off expensive gear (their parents must truly make plenty of money I guess, ugh...) and playing at lightning speed.........
  5. Dutch Radio 2 is actually having a quizz in which you can win the Physical Graffiti remaster (cd version). If you have the high score of the day, you qualify to win tickets to a listening session/party in London, with Jimmy also being there........ Maaike
  6. Mmmmmm....., reading this topic just now and I feel like quite a few people have good points. Yes, maybe Jimmy could have been even better if he had practiced more/differently and yes, it's indeed a fact that certain (technically very skilled I may add) hard rock/metal players called Jimmy sloppy. What it comes down to for me personally as a hobby-guitarist, is that yes, Jimmy can be sloppy, but he somehow does so with a whole lot of feeling. A technically very skilled player may be able to play all the scales at lightning speed, but that doesn't move me. It's about the music, about the songs. That is where Jimmy comes in, he may not always play a technically perfect solo, but he manages to somehow use a guitar solo to tell a story, to bring up certain emotions. Think about it, isn't that what music is meant to be...., emotion? Maaike
  7. And I'll join in, playing the game. Child in time - Deep Purple
  8. That's a surprise, that someone here mentions Southside. As a Bruce Springsteen fan, I naturally also know Southside! Seem him and the Asbury Jukes play plenty of times (both in Europe and in the US). His gigs are always a lot of fun. Maaike

  11. Yellowrose, once again. good pics! Ladies, I am bummed........, my bandcoaching group had to cancel the small performance we had to do tonight (4 songs)......... Our lead singer is sick, she has a bad case of the flu......... We were supposed to play these songs: -Beast of burden, Bette Midler -Girl, Anouk (dutch female rock singer) -Fire (Pointer Sisters/Bruce Springsteen) -I'm not so tough, Ilse de Lange (dutch pop/country singer) Maaike

  15. The text to go along with this picture says: “I think it’s got to be all part of our DNA, this mass communication through music. That’s what it is. It’s got to be, hasn’t it? Music is the one thing that has been consistently there for me. It hasn’t let me down. - Jimmy Page" I think Jimmy very much has good point here. Also for me as a hobby musician, music is that one thing that is always there for me. Even when nothing or nobody else is.............. Maaike Edit: -Same picture, different text...... (However......., once again, Jimmy has a good point here regarding music........ )
