well just basing off the info we have from his alleged friends, they says he was still living with his mom and was a janitor in his later life. that doesn't exactly scream success to me. and yes he was a bootlegger. he recorded and distributed copies of someone else's intellectual property. it doesn't matter if he didn't make any money off of it.

what I find funny is how people are building him up to be some sort of an enigma when really he was just a burnout that happened to record bootlegs. thats pretty much all there is to it.

sadly robert plants voice was nothing like what attracted me to led zeppelin by that point. a friend bought the album and we listed to it and there were bits and pieces that were ok but to be honest, had jimmy produced it and got someone else on vocals it would have been better. it seemed like they were trying to go for a more spiritual thing (again probably more roberts idea) which I dont really care for all that much. the stuff they did in zep like kashmir and no quarter were awesome but the later stuff just seems like they ran out of creative juice and were trying to squeeze out the last drops of what the had.

I didn't do anything that would have warranted him thinking I was being a dick. I walked in, looked around grabbed a record then went up to pay. I asked if they accepted cards or cash only.

I didnt really have a problem with the higher price. it was the guy who worked there. he was rude, not helpful at all and had a pissy attitude. when I asked him a question he just rolled his eyes and didn't answer. I regret giving them my money. I would rather go to a corporate chain store that hires nice people than a store run by rude hipsters.

I went to a small record store in seattle the other day and got a copy of led zeppelin at the fillmore west but the guy who worked there was a total dick. for zeppelin they had mostly bootlegs and just a couple studio albums. I wont be going back that is for sure. it kind of defeats the purpose of having an independent store that charges more than the bigger stores when the customer service sucks.

here are some high quality non zeppelin song with bonzo on drums. (jimmy is only on rhythm not lead guitar). If you listen to the right side you can really hear the drums clear. I think it is pretty easy to hear that it's bonzo.

he hit the drums really hard not with finesse like most. even when he was trying to go light it seemed hard for him to not start slamming on them. also another thing that sets his drumming apart from most is that drummers like bill ward and ginger baker would get a really good swing going with the bass guitar while john bonham would play along with the guitar. I favor bonham because he has a really deep and bassy sound (not just his bass drum) while a lot of drummer have a really snappy drum sound that I dont like. on when the levee breaks (arguable one of his most influential tracks) they used an echo machine while recording.

im not certain but I think at 1:40 that is supposed to be a poster of led zeppelin's first album in the background

as for jimmy, his eyes seem to go from greenish grey to brown depending on lighting (if not black from having dilated pupils).

well there is a reason why I said "imo" (in my opinion) but hey if you want to believe that they aren't good enough as a band (not just musicians) to have more than a cult following that's on you.

they are definitely an acquired taste but to call them a cult band and underrated I think is a bit off. they have a huge fan base. led zeppelin was definitely more influential than them though. I think there is a huge difference between rush and led zeppelin even though they are always compared. with led zeppelin it was so much more than just writing awesome songs, rush was really more about writing very climactic and intricate instrumentals. also geddy lee's vocals are absolutely atrocious imo.

what medium(record or cd)? what are you playing it through? adjusting the eq will typically bring out characteristic that seem to not be there.

I should also add that while led zeppelin is my favorite band, they do not stand alone at the top of the music mountain. along side them are bands like black sabbath, queen, pink floyd among many others of their generation, after and current.

there have been plenty of bands that are just as talented; writing and playing wise as led zeppelin. the problem is that people basically want another band that is a mirror image of led zeppelin but then when a band comes out that sounds like them people just say they are a rip off of led zeppelin and if they dont sound like them, then people say they aren't as good as led zeppelin, so in a way, no matter what a rock band does, they will always be placed under led zeppelin. led zeppelin was also the first of their kind and no one else can change that. jimmy page, john bonham and john paul jones were musical geniuses but robert plants voice was what really set them apart. sure there are some sound a likes (billy squier, david coverdale ect...) but none of them have that natural and primal scream like robert did, his voice could be piercing and soothing at the same time. most rock bands have very gritty and masculine vocalists while robert plants vocals were very vulnerable and feminine but with a very hard edge at the same time. if you go listen to p.j. probys album "three week hero" (it was the first album led zeppelin recorded as a band without robert plant on vocals) I think you will see that without him they probably wouldn't have reached the success they did.

we have a record store near by. it is the only independently owned one left in the area. the owner is a bit scatter brained and is not the best person to do business with. outside the store there are huge signs saying everything is half off but then he marks the prices up crazy high to the point where at half off you are still paying top dollar. also, they test every record so there will be piles in the store that just sit there that he wont sell because he hasn't listened to them yet. being the hipsterville that we are, we have actually have a surprising amount of record shops but prices are pretty high. the best bet to get some good vinyl for less than $5 a piece are thrift stores and garage sales. back during christmas time I stopped by another music store to look around and they were trying to sell an older copy of physical graffiti for $54. it wasn't old enough to be special and it wasn't one of the remasters either.
