  1. "Will the 'Stairway to Heaven' Jury Hear About Jimmy Page's Drug Use and "Serial Plagiarism"? http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/led-zeppelins-stairway-heaven-trial-884754 And so the kicking below the belt comes in. I figured Randy's side would eventually try and weasel Jimmy's heavy use of drugs into all of this. What's next having the jury hear about Jimmy and Lori at the Hyatt, or his interest in the occult and Crowley? I am hoping that it's ruled that ALL their personal junk stays out of it. I hope Zep wins and this is finally put to bed for good.
  2. Oh. Ugh. I was hoping it wouldn't get this far. I can't believe they haven't presented some of the song examples you are all naming off as a way to prove how redonk this case is. Maybe that stuff will be used as evidence at the actual trial, because what's been presented so far has not been good enough...apparently.. Sigh... A trial by jury. How does this work in song writing cases? Who makes up the jury? Are these just random chosen American citizens of Los Angeles being summoned? That could be both scary and awesome. I assume it's a panel/group of people who understand and grasp both music composition and copyright laws. People who know specifically what to look for in these kinds of cases. Well damn I hope it's the latter. A bit weird if it's 12 people hanging out in a room listening to fan made Youtube clips of the opening to Stairway and a song that the "average" person on the street has never heard of. I really can't imagine anybody but Jimmy Page and Robert Plant's names going down for the writing of Stairway To Heaven. A sad day in music if that was to change. It won't. I'm going with a Pollyanna attitude. The jury will get this right! Zep will win this one way or another Thanks for the updates
  3. Yeah I suppose all albums should've been represented. Plant's voice certainly would have handled something from In Through The Out Door - lower for his current vocal range. Maybe the band after all this time, just wasn't 'feeling' it with that one. Has Jones done anything with that since '79 - '80?? Speaking of performing songs that had never been done live...I remember reading an interview on here about some people at the O2 who thought For Your Life was a new Zep song? I know it's not the concert "staples" i. e. Stairway, Kashmir, Whole Lotta Love e t c....but shit COME ON. They need their Zep cards revoked!! Anyone know if any accoustic numbers were considered? I guess that would strongly depend on Jimmy's ability though. From watching little clips with him and Roy Harper at his birthday, I think he would have managed quite nicely
  4. Okay the search function on this site works like a placebo sometimes. I'm sure S A J will scold me and let know he has already explained this and there are several threads discussing this. I apologize. Why was Over The Hills And Far Away not preformed? It was pretty much along for the ride the moment it made its debut.
  5. Wishing a belated Feb 29 th H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y N U T R O C K E R
  6. I wonder what he'd say today if he heard an actual audio recording of himself saying that. I suppose he could say he was bull-shitting with the interviewer. Haha talk about a little fib coming back to bite you eh. I do get the feeling it can't be used as evidence though. Still I'm sure R C's side is digging up that stuff. One thing I will say is, before this case I myself had never heard of Taurus, Spirit or Randy California How many people would be Googling this band if this was Spirit VS the band Blah Blah and the song Blah Blah Blah. There mere fact it involves Led Zeppelin and Stairway gives Spirit some major plugging that's free - minus legal fees. If this actually goes to trial how sad that besides the Kennedy Honors in 2012 this would be what brings Jimmy, Plant and Jones to the same place on U S soil together. Never mind a cool interview or something really good. Nope a joke of a plagiarism case in a the state of California. I think it will be tossed out.
  7. Very cool articles Not very important, but when in 1975 did Plant have a pot belly? They writer for the Indianapolis show makes it out like Plant had this big tank on him.
  8. WHAAAT???? Now you take that back!!!! LOL He-he, just kidding with you Moddey. Backing vocals in the studio I thought Jimmy was fine. However live though? Well half the time he wouldn't bother to sing where he was needed, or turn his head away from the mic, and then the best was in '77 you had him doing it with a cig dangling out of his mouth *Yeah Pagey that'll turn out well for ya.* I don't think Jones is horrific.....but I will say The Battle Of Evermore definitely NOT my cup of tea with him singing Sandy's part. Bonzo or Jimmy would be my preference to sing over Jonesy. Bonzo Jr. isn't too bad though. He sang back up on some stuff at O2. Did a decent job i m o. Sorry thread readers back to Steve's mysteries.

    Boleskine

It's careless to whoevers fault it was. Whether it was irresponsible kids mucking about in a kitchen leaving hot plates and burners on, heaters too close to the curtains, or a home that more than likely was a huge fire hazard that needed to be brought up to code. When Jimmy owned it, were there any fires? His friend Malcolm Dent from what I have read lived there without any issues. Well he mentioned in an interview some kooky people around, but ha-ha that's par for the course with Crowley's house and the fact people knew it was connected to Jimmy Page at that point in time. Once Jimmy sold it, it seemed to get neglected. Who was the current owner? Were they Crowley fanatics, Pagey L Z people or just someone in general who had a thing for history and older homes in the UK? No article really implies what. A shame, because it sounds like some of you would have enjoyed having a looksee.

    Boleskine

Nope not weird at all. I think there are a number of people who would find the Boleskine house an interesting place to see. Jimmy Page took an interest so it's bound to pique some curiosity from L Z fans. I like reading about its haunted reputation. I find the place cold and unwelcoming in it's pictures though...Maybe it's supposed to feel that way? I would do a walk through just to see what gives, but to live there or stay over night as a guest?? Omg hell no haha. It gives me the heebie jeebies. I'd tour through in the day with all the lights on with a group of people. When I say people I mean an NFL defensive tackle players Yeah I know I'm a wimp. I've been to the UK 12 times. Mainly England as I have immediate family living in Bedford and Borehamwood. I should ask if any of them have ever visited the Boleskine house. Some of them are Jimmy and L Z fans like me
  11. Agree with you BlackDog71! This is why Hyde was the best guy on the show! How can you not like a character who loved Zep eh!?
  12. Retro: Three's Company. It's the episode where there's a misunderstanding and sexual innuendoes. You all remember that episode right?!?
  13. R i d i c u l o u s What's next? Randy's estate will get a "musical CSI team" to take the first 5 seconds of Stairway and play it back in some micro fraction second frame speed to prove it sounds like Taurus. They are grasping. The fact somebody can't plop a CD in and listen or just simply read the sheet music tells me they don't have much of a case. Yes I know it's not always cut and dry like that, but c'mon I find it assinine that 45 years later they want to prove the songs opening are the same? Why? Because in 1972 it wasn't monetarily worth it yet?! And this lawyer needs to stop acting like the 5 seconds they are suing over was this make or break part in the song and without "Randy's part" the song would never have had the impact it's had on music. Puh-lease it's not the lyrics or the damn guitar solo now. Randy does not deserve a writing credit nor does his estate deserve some ridiculous royalty pay out. I'm all for the little people getting their day in the sun - when deserved, but nah not this. Not even close. I realize I sound like some silly L Z fan haha, who clearly has no clue about this, but to wait 45 years after the song has become like a form of a holy grail in the music world and seek a pay out just makes me roll my eyes.
  14. Ah yes the Atlantic 40th. How much fun was that? Haha yeah that's a big no across the board for that one. The list is too long on what's not to like. Words can't express how much better Jimmy was at the O2. Speaking of the O2...I know he cleaned up before '07, but a guy with nerves like him could've very easily gotten swept back in and used the excuse that he needed something for that one night- which really would've been awful considering they couldn't afford yet ANOTHER Zep outting where Jimmy's basically drooling and falling over. It would've been a travesty to close it out like that. Thank God the O2 show turned out good for them. I do wonder if Plant was any type of factor in Jimmy staying on the wagon firmly for that gig. I ask because based on some of the things I've read on this site, I get the feeling that the last time he and Plant toured - Plant was basically getting to the end of his rope with Jimmy's habits prior to going on stage. No clue how true that is. Anyways a great job it was. I'm glad the 3 of them and Jason were able to finally do a reunion show that they could all be pleased about.
  15. I agree with what you're saying but...Really? You believe somebody like Jimmy who spent more time with a guitar in his hand than anything else would lose his desire to play for an audience? How does that even happen. I suppose it does, but I always thought Jimmy wouldn't stop performing completely unless he was forced to. (physically unable) I guess it comes across my mind periodically only because he says in interviews he wants to been seen playing. For all I know that could mean be seen in front of the bathroom mirror. I should let be known that I am completely supportive of Jimmy just strolling around with his little grey pony tail and sunglasses and enjoying 'retirement. I only brought the subject up because I see his peers still on stage, and I often wonder if Jimmy wishes he too was up there - not necessarily with them but somewhere on a stage. I take it if he wanted to be he would. I will say this though, over the last 15 years the lack of public playing hasn't diminished his or Zeps popularity. With Zep's music and Jimmy remastering the catalogue, he's garnered a lot of new fans.
  16. I was tempted to come into this thread guns-a-blazin' at first and do a post pointing out my disagreements on a number things regarding Jimmy's decline in playing - but no I'm not about telling somebody what they should or should not enjoy when it comes to music. All this talk about Jimmy's live playing through out his career and lack of practicing brings up the burning question: Why has he stopped playing guitar publically altogether? It nags at me because it's a rather simple question, yet we don't have the answer to it. To my knowledge he's never announced he was retiring from performing, he also hasn't come forward saying his hands, fingers or wrists are terribly arthritic making it too much of a challenge to play properly. He hasn't lost his love of music or passion for playing guitar am I right!?!? So why has he disappeared from the stage? It's rather strange considering he says quite often he wants to be seen and heard. Maybe what he wants and what he's capable of are two separate things. Jimmy does not owe me an explanation to any of my badgering questions.... but at the same time I wish he did. I saw some tweets with Jonesy in Mexico jamming. It made me a bit sad thinking how cool it would be to see Jimmy playing somewhere live..
  17. Yeah I agree with the bolded above. ^^ Nope I'm not trying to diminish his role within the band at all. There were 4 guys and every part was equally important in Zep's finishing product. I just think if Jones played the guitar for a night instead of the bass, there would be mistakes.. at least the kind of mistakes that wouldn't go unnoticed and the whole "Jonesy never screws up" would no longer be true. Nuthin' deep. I wasn't trying to imply that Jones is a roadie whose roll is gopher who gets the band coffee while Jimmy's role in Led Zeppelin was GOD on stage and most important. At least I hope my post didn't come out that way. Sorry if it read that way.
  18. I'll take age out of it if we use Keith Richards as the example. He's long in the tooth, however he's still playing a lot and the band that he's been apart of since the early 60s STILL tours ALL the time, (unlike Jimmy) so yeah sure let's go ahead see how Keith sizes up against a younger guitarist or even himself 34 years ago. The O2 was the lone full length concert performance Jimmy had done in how many years? Guy in his 60's who BARELY plays versus one in his late 20s who is touring nonstop?? I just don't see how that is equal, but maybe the Page fan in me clouds my judgment making me not the best person to be speaking on the subject. Not to take away from how solid of a performer Jones is, but just how perfect would he be in a live setting if he and Jimmy traded roles for one night. I am pretty sure there would be a lot more mistakes being made on his end if he was to strap on Jimbo's guitar. Eh but again Jimmy vs Jones is another apples to oranges thing since were talking about bass playing and guitar playing. The roles are very different.
  19. Silly like a poster said several posts above. There's a 34 year gap between those 2 concerts. Jimmy Page as a 28 year old in 1973 to Jimmy Page as a 63 year old. Really?? C'mon *sigh* how is that even fair?? Jimmy at the O2 concert of course isn't going to be the same player as he was 34 years prior. Obviously there're a number of factors as to why that is, but that doesn't mean the O2 concert was a horrific representation of his guitar playing. I thought he did a great job for somebody who had really really slowed down on playing live and even doing full length gigs at that point. If you like doing the whole comparison game with Jimmy's playing why not do it with something on a smaller time scale. Or at least pick a period when he was still an active playing guitarist on a regular basis. Someone who fine tooth combs his live guitar playing microsecond by microsecond... well it's a given you'll spot a lot of things to nit pick at with the latter of the two shows. I don't listening to music that way but different strokes I guess. It's more about listening to the overall piece then note by note. Unfortunately the O2 is in it's own category since there's not much in the 2000s of Jimbo to compare it with. If he had continued playing on regular basis in his 60s than you could critique that with the O2. Celebration Day VS The Song Remains the Same is apples to oranges and not in the same category to realistically compare off together.
  20. Short story: I'm Kelly and yeah you guessed it.. I'm a girl. Long story: I chose Kelly and added Girl because I had no clue what I'd end up using for my avatar. I thought a random photo of the band, Jimmy or maybe his ZoSo sigil with username "Kelly" would make people wonder if I was some chatty Irish dude. (The name Kelly being of Irish origin) I suppose after a few of my posts people would've figured out my sex. After adding the Girl I realized I could've just stuck with Kelly since you can choose if you want to show your sex. My boss actually picked my cartoon avatar picture to represent me online at work. I have no clue where the the picture comes from originally though, only that he and others I work with said she had a likeness to me in the world of cartoon. I thought oh gee how Walt Disney esque of you all to think this about me. I've grown used to it now, so I thought what the hell I'll use it on a public Zep board.
  21. ^^^ Thanks Steve; The more I learn.. So it was Jimmy's dad who had another child. Makes sense. I didn't take into consideration that Jimmy's mom might have been past childbearing age after their divorce.
  22. Yeah I tried a number of times with the 'search' function on the forum with the topic of this thead. Sighh...damn it. Am I crazy for thinking Jimmy's mom remarried and had a child in a second marriage - giving Jimmy a half sister? I have no clue where I believe I read this though..
  23. ^^^ It's all good heavybluesfan! I was just wondering if you were a fan who likes the live shows to replicate the albums to a T. Haha, you summed it up with "No that would be boring!" I like that we're able to go back all these years later and listen to the variety of recordings of L Z live from year to year. Hear the changes in the way Jimmy (and others members) played some of the L Z songs that became staples through out their touring years. When do we all analyze and disect Plant's singing? Haha No?? Love Plant, but hey I'll admit that's just not as fun as the guitar talk for me.
  24. ^^ Oh I don't doubt that after the O2 gig Jimmy was itching to get out there again. It's a pity that he, Jason and Jonesy could not have worked something out. It would have been really cool to hear Jimmy do a tour completely sober night after night. Hearing the difference in his playing opposed to the days of being under lord knows what. Who knows how great it could have ended up being again.... Oh water under the bridge now eh lol Lucky you are seeing them live back in the day. Ha! Chicago Storm Trooper wearing Jimmy!
  25. Aww thank you for the Happy Birthday wishes everyone Lovely of you all.
