  1. lol, I should say thanks for reminding me about them.
  2. Wow, really digging this, Thanks Charles !
  3. Hammer of the Gods, Stephen Davis - Fiction writer
  4. Good call Mithril46, just watched the Perfect Strangers Live DVD over the weekend, & there is some amazing playing going on. Not only by Ritchie, but Jon Lord on the keys as well.
  5. That would be my biggest concern is what shape is his voice in, last time I heard him with his garage band doing GNR songs, he sounded ok, but not great.
  6. Keep in mind Led Zep never made hit songs, a quote from a "Wayne's World" movie.
  7. It's really hard to compare any guitar player of any era, here's a couple of my observations; Hendrix - The one who took it all in a different direction, a visionary. Clapton - Phenomenal blues player, tho I don't care for any of his work outside of Cream. Beck - Amazing player, with heavy jazz influences, more of an instrumentalist. Page - The Master of Hard Rock, influenced myself & many other teens to play guitar in the 70's Van Halen - Another visionary, took finger tapping, harmonics, & whammy bars to a different place. Blackmore - Hard to describe easily, schooled in all types of music & brought that to lead guitar. The one thing that all of these amazing players have in common, is that they fit well into the type of music they are playing. The only thing that they really have in common, is that they all play in the Rock genre of music. Not a bad note from any of them.
  8. Not all "supergroups" work, it's too bad, an amazing guitar player, & a great vocalist.
  9. This is a great version of the Purple classic. The funny part is Sammy mentions how this is a song that we all grew up with, & on the 2nd verse, he has to skim the lyrics on a cheat sheet.
  10. This was a band that never realized their full potential. I remember being really stoked when I first heard about this happening. A couple of mediocre albums, only spotty airplay didn't help. I'm not sure that they would be any better, if they did play again.
  11. I guess there are no fans in the US, disappointing.
  12. Anything by The Rival Sons, you won't be disappointed.
  13. Highly recommended the Dreamboat Annie Live DVD. The encore contains Led Zep songs as usual, stilll a solid band. We saw them a few years ago, & saw a great show.
  14. It's a shame that Chicago is leading, I also voted for Deep Purple & Yes. It's really goofy who gets in, it needs to be renamed to Music Hall of Fame. Many groups that get in have nothing to do with Rock or Roll. Deep Purple should have been in a long time ago, so many great tracks. If for some reason they make it, I would like to see all the surviving members of the band up there, & not the usual fiasco that takes place. As there are great contributions from all versions of the band.
  15. I saw them back about a few years ago, & they really sounded good, they really surprised me, sure many of their songs are way overplayed, but they still deliver.
  16. I'd love to see these guys at some point. They have Zep overtones, nothing wrong with that. As I've mentioned earlier, a true hard rock band in 2015, that's a good thing.
  17. Growing up in the Chicagoland area, I did get to see them a couple of times, it seemed they were everywhere. Sad day for sure, Gary had talent, underrated guitar player.
  18. I use GHS Boomers .10's, they seem to have more sustain & depth, which is important for heavier music. That reminds me, they probably need changing.
  19. Really good news, we saw Chickenfoot the last time they were here in Chicago, just an amazing show start to finish. Joe is such a beast on the guitar, recordings do not do him justice.
  20. A few people have mentioned this already, but after reviewing all the companion discs or bonus tracks, it seems to me that LZ I is the best bang for the buck. You get about 1/2 to 3/4 of a Live show from '69 that doesn't sound like it was recorded in a telephone booth(remember those?)
  21. I like these guys. An actual hard rock band in the year 2015 !!! I don't care where they borrowed from, it may be obvious, they are still very good.
  22. The exact number I don't recall, but there were more than a couple, which led us to believe they were shooting the show for an upcoming dvd. The cameramen were positioned in various spots, one behind the drummer, one of to the side by Jimmy on the floor, One in from of Chris on the floor, as well as a couple others. I would think that if the Crowes owned the rights to this, that it would have been released by now, as it has been approx. 15 years. Perhaps they didn't like how it came out, hard to believe, it was an amazing show. Perhaps Jimmy owns the rights & doesn't want it released, I guess we'll never know. I would think that they probably shot footage at other venues as well, of the dates that were actually played.
  23. It's such a shame that this & many other shows by many other artists that were professionally shot, were never released on dvd. I have been thinking about that in the past. Like I mentioned in another post. I saw Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes here in the Chicagoland area, & there were professional cameras there, the whole evening. What happened to that footage as well?
  24. It's really a simple answer, nobody is forcing you to buy them. I have chosen no to, but I wouldn't call them rubbish either. Music is so subjective, look at how different the opinions are, on which track is the best on every album. I have the first box, that came out, & that's good enough for me. I do find some alternate takes interesting, but some of the new tracks, I did find underwhelming, but that is only my opinion. If you enjoy them, buy them all, life's too short, enjoy.
