  1. Howdy All, Apparently I have offended member (note there is no "s" on members) here with my curiosity and desire to feel connected with those that feel the same love for the mighty Zep and Mr. Page as I do, so the following is written directly to you Merle. Blue-Eyed Merle, Thank you for making what I formerly felt was a safe space into one that I will no longer enjoy visiting and sharing my ideas through. I really didn't mean to set off your delicate sensibilities with a simple typo caused my auto-correct, although I think I'll leave it in its shameful glory since I am a bit of a Puck at heart and I am not impressed by your tone towards me... also, I sincerely doubt anyone was confused by the typo. Since I now feel the need to defend indulging my shameful curiosity, I will say I only generated the thread because of the concert listings I saw on US TicketMaster to be seen here https://www.ticketmaster.com/THE-BLACK-CROWES-tickets/artist/734564 and I had looked at Ross H's site for the first time in about two years and saw photos of Chris and Rich looking well, and know that Ross and Jimmy have a connection. These perceived connections resulted in me posting my question while I listened to Live at the Greek, not realizing it would rile. I would have been interested to know about the changes within the band, and am saddened to hear that former members are not involved, if this info had been shared in a more humanizing tone, it would be taken as welcome info, and my feelings about the Crowes would be on par with my feelings for The Who. I apologize for not having my finger on the pulse of the comings and goings of the music world; maybe it would be nice to simply inform rather than be a DB neckbeard to people who are simply trying to palaver. I will be certain to privately message you before I ever even think of posting an innocent question, or even visiting, here again. -Darth Hoek
  2. I saw Ross H recently did a photo shoot with Chris and Rich Robinson in Las Vegas here in the US. They look very well, and Chris actually looks the most healthy he ever has in my opinion. As I write this, I am listening to Live at the Greek and loving their version of 10 years gone with the multi tracked solo from the studio version being performed album accurate. Also, the version of Shapes of Things to Come is unreal... I need to look up some of their recent shows on youtube to see how they sound today. So, I had seen the "why doesn't jimmy page do something" thread has been active, and I figured I would open this topic up. To the question I asked in my title, does anyone think this is possible? Allegedly, Jimmy's decision to pull out of the 2000 US tour because of his back issues was also influenced by him leaving because he wasn't comfortable with the Zeppelin level of substance abuse occurring by the Crowes, but I would guess that the Robinson's have finally slowed down by this point. They have history and I am sure they could write some great tunes plus both would benefit from the others presence on a marquee, and sell more tickets then either on their own. What do the people think?
  3. I am very excited for this release, and I also saw that this is releasing for RSD here in the US. Since I would imagine the sound quality is better than the versions I remember from youtube, this should be a great listen. I totally have bitched about this here before, but I am definitely not looking forward to contending with gangs of Ebay sellers at my local-but-not-so-local shop day of release, especially during this magically vomitous year. Thankfully the release list is long, so maybe this will not the the focus of their panicked hoarding. Maybe my local corporate owned shop (masquerading as a local record store) will set aside a copy for me if I ask super nicely.
  4. That is fantastic, great job putting that together; I can't even imagine what that outfit does for your swagger, energy, and tone (seriously) when you are playing some zep on that sweet LP burst. Is it embroidered? If it is that is even more impressive, but I can't see from the pictures, but I am sure it is my eyes. Also, I have to say this due to an ignorant comment I see above...don't let the haters get you down! Passion is the wellspring of art, and conviction to one's art is life. Not that you don't know this already! Nice work!
  5. Hey party people, I was going through the record collection this afternoon and noticed my Death Wish 2011, JP.com record was number 742 - like 742 Evergreen Terrace for any Simpsons fans. Thought it was funny, since I am a huge Simpsons fan, but it got me thinking how cool it was that Jimmy has his own label through which he releases both his friends and own work. So far he has released: Death Wish II Lucifer RIsing Chris Farlowe Yardbirds 68 Catalyst-Scarlett Sabet SoundTracks - of course this was released after I bought death wish and lucifer rising, so I won't be buying this... What do we think will come out next on this label? Not the upcoming Coverdale/Page reissue I would guess. Would he ever consider releasing some of his 1988 live shows through JP.com? How about the XYZ sessions? I don't have any interest in $1,000 photos, and the books were cheaper on Amazon, but I will drop some $$$ on records...within reason. Other than the exchange rate and shipping to the U.S., I feel the pricing is fairly reasonable, and the vinyl is very high quality in sound, packaging, and materials. A new release would give me an excuse to buy another zoso shirt!
  6. I agree, it is too bad they haven't done this yet, a few years back I was excited when there was some activity with bands merch store and in the news. Must have just been the 10 year anniversary of the effort. Johannes was not involved in the TCV studio recordings according to my addled memory as well, and I wouldn't doubt of Jones, Homme, and Grohl were all involved in playing the guitar overdubs/solos on the studio album. I recall Johannes was brought in since they needed a second guitarist to perform the songs live, and they really could have chosen anyone for this role. So, I wonder if Page was ever considered to play lead on the TVC album? I remember when I heard the first TCV album I thought the songs would have been perfect soundscape for Jimmy Page to go wild on. We all know JPJ, Jason Bonham, and JP had been jamming and trying out singers for a new project right before this came out, and Jimmy was raring and ready to go on a tour. I'll bet Page wanted to play mostly Zep stuff on the Not-Zeppelin tour, and playing someone else's songs with a relatively minimal amount of input, may not have appealed to him in the afterglow of the O2. But still, TCV was all riff bases tunes and relatively simply lead parts, but with lots of catchy and unexpected hooks; kind of Jimmy Page's forte. Of course a new album from TCV in 2021 may be coming along too late for JP to be able or interested at this point. But a new TCV album (and a post COVID 19 tour) would certainly be welcome!
  7. I had ordered this single, a tshirt, and a lz3 hoodie from .com...I received an email in November that the record and tshirt had been delivered, and they obviously were not. A few days later the hoodie arrived and I checked music glue, and my account page said the hoodie hadn't shipped yet (said it was due to ship in January), the account page also said that the yet unreleased record and tshirt had already been delivered to me...then a few months went by and now the record and tshirt are cancelled? Very weird, but who knows...based on my experience so far, music glue seems like a bit of a s-show disaster. Maybe they accidentally sold double the amount to be released (this was supposed to be limited release, right?) and they realized it at the last second, so cancelled the release due to the error so they wouldn't have to admit the mistake on their end. At least I got my refund in a timely fashion.
  8. I couldn't be happier for him...look at how well he looks in the OP's photo. I have been long to admit it, but Jimmy is so very retired from performing/recording...he is like some sort of socialite patron now, taking in Scarlet Sabet, making her a record on his label, defending medieval architecture, and selling $12,500 guitar amps.
  9. Archivist, I agree with your ideas of value perception and the overall point of your reply, but let's not forget to consider the type of person who will pony up to buy this. A person to whom perceived value is no concern, in fact, amazingly they likely feel that paying more is a mark of status in society. I envision a person who is in the 1%; a someone who comparatively makes Jimmy Page appear to have average wealth. This person has a yacht with a security team on board (to fend off pirates in the Indian Ocean) and they own a $38 million dollar mansion on Cape Cod, Ma. USA, with a personal staff of 10, that they sail to to stay for only one week a year, but it sits empty the rest of the time. They have gigantic empty homes like this around the world along with a personal museums full of cars that they never drive. They have rooms full of items such as this they purchase on a whim, including a room much like the secret government warehouse from the Indiana Jones movies. This is where this amazing guitar will end up along with many other fantastic items that should be in a museum so that the fans who live in the real world can enjoy it. A sad state of affairs and I know I am just being drunk and Vonnegut-ly pessimistic as I write this up. Maybe someone will buy the guitar and donate it to a museum or art gallery...At least no matter what the proceeds from this will go to this great cause!
  10. Quite a challenge to cut this up given how this is my favorite album ever recorded by anyone. Ever. So, for Physical Graffiiti on one disc I would say ... Side 1: Custard Pie Kashmir The Rover Trampled Underfoot Side 2: In the Light Ten Years Gone Down by the Seaside Bron-Yr-Aur It Might be tight on one LP, but I feel this list would help get the vibe from the double album across a bit. Maybe a bit lz3 in its acoustic leanings on side B, but hey this is Zeppelin after all.
  11. Hey All...as others have said Page has seemed to have a few peaks since Zeppelin; and these peaks are all be a result of extended touring. With that in mind... 1985 Sallie Mae Jam w/ Jaco Pastorius: Not the best technically, but I like this because Jimmy is put in a situation he was not comfortable with here and still rises to the occasion. In later years Jimmy seems to have lost the confidence to play with those he could be compared against (like at the Rock and Roll HOF in 2009)...not here! People could argue that Jaco is patronizing to jimmy here and that Jimmy is sloppy...he is but Jaco is not being mean-everyone is just f'd up! Yet again, lets say this was a tour...by the 10 show Jimmy would have already mastered & redefined fusion jazz. I kid, but I think I do have a good point here... 1988 Outrider Tour: had been touring with the firm for some time before w/o playing zep songs live...does this tour and is amazing as he basks in the love coming from the crowds. If Jason B only had the chops then he has today... 1998 P&P WIC Tour: Everything is on fire during this tour- BIGLY stands out, Ten Years Gone was fantastic, SIBLY and the japan shows where they sub out Tea for One, and a return to the electric version of No Quarter that makes me very disappointed that they go ahead and bring on JPJ and Jason Bonham at this point....or Mike Bordin (FNM had just ended I think). 2000-2001: W/ Black Crowes: People sometimes put this down because Jimmy having the support of two other guitarists, but he really is on fire during this tour and was able to truly do studio versions of the zep catalogue. Also, playing with two other guitarists when you are used to playing alone takes a lot of restraint and concentration that you usually don't see from Jimmy. 2008: O2- Not the best post Zep, but it must be noted for showing Jimmy on the uphill climb towards regaining his ability through extended practice; like many first nights of a Zep tour in the 70's...too bad they didn't keep going with that project w/o robert...I would have gone to see instrumental JPJ, Jason B, and Jimmy Page if they couldn't decide on a singer and I am sure all of you would have as well...
  12. Here in Eastern Massachusetts we have 100.7 WZLX's "Stairway to Seven" nightly...always a factoid for the fans and sometimes live and alternate takes from the various releases. This has been a thing for quite some time...
  13. So, I pre-ordered one of the Jimmy Page Dragon production run Telecasters for $1,399.99 from Musicians Friend to be delivered in July...I thought it was weird that the white production one was $2,400 while the what I will assume will be better selling dragon telecaster is $1,000 less. The dragon has non-guitarist man cave wall-hanger written all over it and they should sell a bunch of these. It was also odd that they were not calling it an American Telecaster in the descriptions I could find, in fact no articles I can find mention anything about where the production guitars will be made. Usually when a Fender is made in the US they put it right out there usually. I wanted to know exactly what I was purchasing and where it was from, so I reached out to Musician's Friend to ask where it will be made. They got back to me and said the Dragon tele will be made in Mexico...I already have an American Standard Telecaster from the 90's and do not need something new but inferior. So, I called in to cancel my order and I picked up an open-box Epiphone double neck for 1/2 the price! I am surprised that the production dragon is made in Mexico, not that that is the hugest deal, but the quality, fit, and finish is lower in my experience with the Mexican vs. US Fender products. This seems like a big enough money maker that they could have charged $1,800 or so for the Dragon and made it in the US. Honestly, you can buy a sweet Telecaster made in Mexico for under $500.00 at the shop, and for half that a bit used...why the extra $900 for a dragon and JP signature sticker? Now I am wondering, will the production run jimmy page white mirrored guitar be made in the US, and that is why it will be more expensive? Anyone? 4 or 5 little mirrors and some whitewash don't add up to $1,000!
  14. I have a 1992 American Standard Telecaster in Candy Apple Red with a white pickguard. It looks like a Buddy Holly Guitar but is so much more. It has a double bladed DiMarzio in the bridge which makes it rip so nicely. It can jangle or strangle, overall it is pretty badass. I love it for certain tunes and I come up with very different things on it than when I play the les paul studio or the taylor... As far as the Dragon Telecaster goes I would love to know the list price for the mass market model. Maybe I should just make up some stencils and buy some paint for mine...
  15. I think I thought Worcester seemed better since I was seated on the lawn at the great woods show and the sound usually is pretty piss poor there; even now that it is the Comcast Xfinity Center. I remember seeing Phish there two years ago or three years ago and the sound cut out for most of the show on the lawn and it was really bad overall. Additionally, I also really like some of the dive bars in Worcester, so maybe I was a bit biased. For the Crowes and Page, the performance prob was better at Great Woods given the amount of time they had been playing together at that point. I'm a bit fuzzy on it I suppose from having too much fun tailgating before the show. I need to look up the Great Woods Show Setlist now....
  16. I was at the Worcester show as well John M. what an amazing show! The Centrum is a bit smaller of a venue so the view was pretty great from the balcony where I was seated. Favorite songs for me at this show were ten years gone and shapes of things. I remember I thought it funny that the first run of these shows were in LA, New York, and Worcester of all places before they announced the larger tour...I was glad they came here but why not Boston? I also was at the Great Woods show later that following summer; the one where the who was playing back to back nights...was very good, but not as good as the Worcester show.
  17. It is really good that there wasn't a spark anywhere near RP's Aqua Net of a head during this interview! I can certainly say that cultural differences and trying to impress a pretty girl are all reasons why RP would reply"John Paul Jones" to many band names during the word association "game;" including really enthusiastically to Zep. Moreover, I think he is trying to distance himself as much as possible from anything considered "old," and to ally himself with the MTV youth culture of 1988, so let's make fun of JPJ, as of course he is old and stodgy unlike Robert, right? I really like the hand on the knee Robert pulls on the interviewer as well...so very English! (I am absolutely kidding UK!) IMO Robert seems to have always had a need to be a bit of a DB in interviews to his old band mates so as to feel relevant when any new music of his is about to drop. I guess that's what happens when you were the 4th best musician in the greatest band that ever existed. Interestingly enough, JPJ played on and produced a slew of college alternative bands in the late 80's and 90's and remained more of a part of youth culture overall. In high school (89-93), I remember him playing with or producing the Butthole Surfers, Lenny Kravitz, The Foo Fighters, and REM among others. And let's not forget TVC - my god that f'n album is a masterpiece and is full of youthful creativity and energy without a doubt (it would have even been better if Jimmy played guitar on it tho!). And yes, the Mick Jagger comment is very kind for sure.
  18. This album was not what I expected at the time but had some good hooks that I still really enjoy. Most high is a nice use of the cacgce tuning, please read the letter is a standout song, and it has a "sun studios" type sound. The minimalist production, drum sound, and the reverb laden guitar tone is in line with the minimalist blues that the title of the album suggests, and it makes this album unique to my ear (at least the cd I have of it). As noted many times before here, the 1998 tour to support WIC was way better than the 94/95 tour for NQ. I saw it and can certainly vouch for that. Jimmy's playing was his best in years and surely him stealing the spotlight by really excelling at his instrument again must have bothered some of those he shared it with on some level. I would love to hear some of the Page/Michael Lee sessions from the 1999/2000 sessions that Robert reportedly rejected. I would also love to see an expanded 180g vinyl come out for Walking into Clarksdale. I always am looking for a copy on Discogs and Amazon and they are always in the $130 to $200 range depending on quality. A bit too rich for me...It seems the demand for Zeppelin and related on vinyl is certainly most high given how well the RSD release sold last month, so this release is not so unrealistic to imagine.
  19. I also was at 10/16/99 in Worcester, Ma. Saw them again the following summer again at the old mansfield great woods (xfinity center now)...both shows were epic and let jimmy showcase all the skills he had regained during the 1998 P & P tour. His talent was such around the year 2000 that when he came out of Black Crowes tour he should have kept going with Chris Cornell, JPJ, and Mike Bordin or something as he was as talented and relevant as he ever would be again, at least until the o2 happened. Or he really could have made a go of it long term with the Crowes as they were certainly the real deal as far heavy blues acts go. As mentioned elsewhere on this post he said his back was the culprit...such a pity! I have the three disc, white vinyl of the Live at the Greek album. I feel that the ten years gone and the trio of sloppy drunk, shapes of things to come, and woke up this morning are the best tracks on the album. Solo from shapes is fantastic...and ten years gone has all the guitar tracks being played out live, so good! One of the funniest memories of this time was the Conan Obrien appearance of Page and the Crowes. They did Your Time is Gonna Come and Wonton Song and then during the interview, the masturbating bear came running out and attacked Jimmy and Chris Robinson. Such a simpler time it was...
  20. As others have speculated this may be the chronological live set Jimmy has pretty consistently mentioned in interviews in the past. Could this (text highlighted below in bold) be a subtle hint from today's jimmypage.com post? I know nothing about this show although I am about to check youtube for it now... "On this day in 1973, I played the Old Refectory at Southampton University. It gave us an opportunity to play some of the newly recorded material live that was to be eventually released on Houses of the Holy. The audience celebrated our show with much enthusiasm and beer from the Refectory bar. This evening was recorded."
  21. Weren't they all working on some new zep book as well? Maybe they met up for that and caught the BCC show...I need to check if it is going to be a genesis publication like the Page book, as I think they are out of England. If they truely were in the studio to finish up some 40 year old songs, then they really need to finish Fire (say your gonna leave me) as that would actually get some good airtime on the rock stations (as I have said before I am sure). I feel earlier attempts at gaining radio play with rediscovered unreleased tracks al la' sunshine woman, boogie mama, or baby come on home (which were not as "modern" sounding) didn't get the airplay they deserved...a finished version of Fire would get crazy airplay on rock stations around Boston! Then the new Zeppelin 50th anniversary "product" would sell well for sure... I am sure this is a big flurry of nothing like the last snow forecast....
  22. When I think of Zeppelin I think of a super talented band which happens to get far too crazy when they are on the road but at the end of the day basically created the rock genre. When I think of Kiss I think of Pabst Blue Ribbon, carnies on blow, derivative lyrics, and bad choices...pretty much says it all! When I think of Ace Frehley...I probably should stop here I am getting a bit too mean to the kiss fan out there!
